      • The Occurrence of Subtropical-moths through the Inanimate Pathway

        I) Surveillance for subtropical-moths through the inanimate pathway in the Korean Peninsula was investigated during the period from 2006 to the present using the light trap in Is. Baekryeong-do and Is. Daecheong-do. A total of 438 species belonging to 27 families of Lepidoptera were identified. Among them, two species of subtropical -moths, including Ischyja manlia Cramer and Spirama sp. belong to the family Noctuidae were occurred at Is. Daecheong-do in the west coast. II) We are conducting an investigation into subtropical-moths detected from a vessel arrived in Yeosu sea port from this year. Among them, one species was identified into Histia flabellicornis Fabricius belong to the family Zygaenidae. These moths are mainly distributed in the subtropical area from the southern part of China to Indonesia. It is very likely that subtropical-moths have invaded in the Korean Peninsula through the inanimate pathway such as typhoons and/or vessels. To resolve this question, further researches should be done to determine the pathway by which these subtropical-moths occurred in Korea.

        아열대채소의 소비량과 필요재배면적 전망

        Nowadays, the korean peninsula has endured weather changes toward to the subtropical climate. Also demographical structure has changed into multi-cultural society in which many people from subtropical areas have immigrated into Korea. Therefore, consumption and production of subtropical vegetables become important. For the analysis, we choose eight important subtropical crops. EDM (Equilibrium Displacement Model) with many parameters and elasticities is used for the forecast of consumption and required cultivation area. The simulation focuses on the changes of the number of foreign workers and immigrated women in Korea to predict the quantity of consumption and required area in Korea. The results show that we need additional land area about 581∼1,065 ㏊ for the cropping subtropical vegetables in Korea. Finally, these required area can be provided by the cities and counties in coast area in Gyeongsangnam-Do, Jeonranam-Do and Jeju-Do. Climate change will be continued in the future. Together with climate change, the change of demographical structure into multi-culture may increase consumption and production of subtropical vegetables. Forecasting of increased consumption and required cultivation area for subtropical vegetables is significant.

        제주도 아열대 도심 지역의 여름철 열환경 시공간적 패턴

        In this study, the spatio-temporal patterns of summertime thermal environments in the two subtropical cities (Jeju and Seogwipo) of Jeju Island, Korea are examined. Long-term average data from Jeju and Seogwipo show that higher human sensible temperature (HST) than air temperature (T) due to the high humidity effects associated with warm sea surface temperature around Jeju Island is most distinct during mid-summer period (late July-early August). Comparatively, their trend analyses reveal that summertime intra-seasonal changes with more increasing HST than T are most obviously observed in late summer (late September-early October) and regionally in Seogwipo. According to the hourly temperature-humidity data measured at approximately 30 HOBO temperature-humidity sensors deployed in the two subtropical cities during 2019 summer, the greater HST than T during mid-summer period maximizes up to 6.2°C and 7.0°C across the urban areas of Jeju and Seogwipo, respectively in early afternoon, leading to consecutive inter-daily heat wave events. The examination of their spatial patterns demonstrates that bioclimatic heat waves in these two subtropical cities are affected primarily by the urban heat island phenomenon. However, it should not be overlooked that local moisture advection from the warm ocean adjacent to the subtropical cities can modify the stronger heat wave pattern toward urban cores. It is also notable that according to comparisons of local HST and T distributions between impervious urban cores and neighboring urban parks, not only the size of green space but also other ecological properties including species of vegetation may be crucial factors to the mitigation of hot thermal environments in subtropical cities during summers.

        국립수목원 열대온실 내 인공배합토의 물리화학적 특성 및 식물 생육 변화에 관한 연구

        This study was carried out in the Tropical Plant Resources Research Center of Korea National Arboretum to determine the optimum edaphic environment for the growth of tropical and subtropical plants. The physicochemical properties of artificial substrates and the growth characteristics of tropical and subtropical plants were investigated. Subtropical plants exhibited a high growth rate when cultivated in a substrate of Dry Zone that had physical properties similar to those of arid native soil. Mediterranean plants showed a low growth rate when grown in a substrate of Subtropical Zone that required changes in acidity. The substrate of Tropical Zone had high organic matter and mineral contents and therefore had good physical properties:this substrate has a good environment for the stimulation of the growth of tropical plants. Our results indicate that the chemical properties such as pH and mineral contents of most artificial substrates need to be more urgently improved than their physical properties in order to ensure better growth of tropical and subtropical plants. Initial management strategies for the construction of new tropical greenhouses were formulated, and data from monitoring studies will be continuously gathered and incorporated in the manual to keep it updated.

      • Possibility of subtropical moth influx by airflow in Jeju

        Surveillance for introduction of subtropical moths through the inanimate pathway in the Korean Peninsula was carried from 2010 to the 2015 using the burket (light) trap in Jeju island and a nearby dependent islands. Each record typically includes the taxonomic identity, its country of origin, and relevant biological information. According to a study, Lampronia flavimitrella (Hübner) belonging to the family Prodoxidae, from the first reported in Korea. Interestingly, erebids moth, Asota ficus (Fabricius) was distributed in the subtropical area from the southern part of China to Sumatra. It has been also mentioned that the personal blog on the internet was colleted from Yeosu and Mt. Yudal-san (JN), respectively. Especially, there was a crambids moth, Bocchoris inspersalis Zeller, on the origin of subtropical Africa South of the Sahara, but we can't at this point give any evidence about the intercepted status of this species in Korea. We continuously investigated the moth fauna in Jeju. However, its possible of establishment and spread in the Korean fauna can't be ruled out. Thus, it is very important to our weather conditions and further study on the surveillance of these species are needed, considering its possible status as invasive alien species. To resolve this question, further researches should be done to determine the pathway by which these subtropical moths occurred in Korea.

        아열대 작물의 국내 재배동향 및 주산지 분석

        본 연구는 국내 아열대 작물의 재배동향을 분석하여 주산지를 도출하고, 정책지원 및 후속 연구의 기초자료를 제시하였다. 분석결과, 망고를 제외한 나머지 아열대 작물의 재배면적은 정체 또는 감소세를 보였다. 망고와 용과의 주산지는 제주도, 파파야는 경상남도, 강황은 전라남도에 재배면적이 집중된 것으로 나타났다. 구아바와 여주는 재배면적과 농가수가 미미하여 주산지의 정의가 어렵고, 아열대 채소인 여주와 강황은 상위 재배면적을 차지한 시군의 분포가 넓은 것으로 나타났다. 모든 작물에서 상위 10개 지역의 재배면적 비중이 높게 나타났으나, 상위 10위권을 매년 유지한 지역은 절반에 그쳤다. 이는 아열대 작물의 도입과 포기, 재배면적의 확대와 축소가 빈번함을 의미한다. 아열대 작물의 보급과 확대는 향후 기후변화에 대한 농업 부문의 선제대응과 농가 신소득 창출의 측면에서 당위성을 가진다. 정부와 농촌진흥기관은 상위 재배면적이 유지되는 지역을 중심으로 재배기술을 정립하고, 재배면적이 축소되는 지역의 기술적 원인을 규명할 필요가 있다. 또한 농가경영 컨설팅을 위한 기초자료의 구축, 지역별 생육 여건을 고려한 맞춤형 재배기술 개발에 연구지원을 확대할 필요가 있다. This study was conducted to derive implications for the dissemination and expansion of subtropical crops in farms. To this end, the cultivation trends and main producing areas of promising subtropical crops in Korea were analyzed. Analysis results found that the cultivation area of crops, excluding mango, was stagnating or decreasing. The main producing areas of domestic subtropical crops are located on Jeju Island (mango, dragon fruit), in Gyeongsangnam-do (papaya), and in Jeollanam-do (turmeric). Guava and Yeoju could not define the main producing area. For all crops, the percentage of cultivated area in the top 10 regions was high, but only half of the regions maintained the ranking. These results imply that the introduction and abandonment of subtropical crops are frequent. The dissemination and expansion of subtropical crops are justifiable in terms of responding to climate change in the future and creating new income for farms. Therefore, government support policies and agricultural promotion agencies need to be established.

        A1B 시나리오 자료를 이용한 우리나라 아열대 기후구 전망

        지구 온난화의 영향으로 임업 뿐 아니라 농업, 수산업, 보건 등 여러 분야에서 피해가 발생하고 있어, 사회·경제 전분야에 걸쳐 기후변화에 대한 적응 대책이 필요하다. 기후변화의 영향을 평가하고 적응 방안을 마련하기 위해서는 미래 기후가 어떻게 변할 것인지 미리 전망하는 일은 필수적이다. 본 연구에서는 트레와다의 기후 지역 구분 기준(최한월 평균기온이 18℃ 이하이면서 월평균기온 10℃ 이상인 달이 8-12개월)을 적용하여 아열대 기후 지역을 정의하고 A1B 시나리오에 근거한 아열대 기후구의 변화를 전망하기 위하여 기온 관측 자료와 모델 시나리오자료를 분석하였다. 아열대 기후에 관한 트레와다의 정의를 적용하여 현재 아열대 기후구와 미래 아열대 기후구의 변화를 전망해 본 결과 현재는 제주도를 포함한 남해안 일부 지역(부산, 통영, 거제, 여수, 완도, 목포)에 해당하던 것이 2100년에는 태백산맥과 소백산맥을 중심으로 한 산지 주변을 제외하고는 대부분 아열대 기후에 포함된다. 즉, 현재의 온난화가 지속된다면 제주도와 울릉도를 포함한 도서지역은 물론, 동해안으로는 속초, 서해안으로는 강화에 이르기까지 해안지역을 모두 포함하며, 서울, 인천, 수원 등 대도시 지역도 아열대 기후 지역에 포함될 것이다. As the global warming has been influenced on various sectors including agriculture, fisheries and health, it is essential to project more accurate future climate for an assessment of climate change impact and adaptation strategy. The purpose of this study is to examine the boundary changes in the subtropical climate region in South Korea using observed 30-year(1971-2000) data and projected 100-year data based on the IPCC SRES A1B emission scenario. We have selected Trewartha’s climate classification among various climate classification, defining the subtropical climate region as the region with monthly mean temperature 10℃ or higher during 8-12 months. By observed data, the subtropical climate region was only limited in Jeju-do and the farmost southern coastal area(Busan, Tongyeong, Geoje, Yeosu, Wando, Mokpo) of South Korea. The future projected climate region for the period of 2071-2100 included have shown that subtropical climate region extended to most of stations except for the ares of Taebaeksan and Sobaeksan Mountains.

        다중지역기후모델을 이용한 남한 지역의 미래 기후대 분포와 극한기온사상의 변화에 대한 연구

        Regional climate simulations for the CORDEX East Asia domain were conducted between 1981 and 2100 using five models to project future climate change based on RCP2.6, 4.5, 6.0, and 8.5 scenarios. By using the ensemble mean of five model results, future changes in climate zones and four extreme temperature events of South Korea were investigated according to Köppen-Trewartha’s classification criteria. The four temporal periods of historical (1981-2005), early future (2021-2040), middle future (2041-2070), and late future (2071-2100) were defined to examine future changes. The analysis domain was divided into 230 administrative districts of South Korea. In historical (1981-2005) period, the subtropical zones are only dominant in the southern coastal regions and Jeju island, while those tend to expand in the future periods. Depending on the RCP scenarios, the more radiative forcing results in the larger subtropical zone over South Korea in the future. The expansion of the subtropical zone in metropolitan areas is more evident than that in rural areas. In addition, the enlargement of the subtropical zone in coastal regions is more prominent than that of in inland regions. Particularly, the subtropical climate zone for the late future period of RCP8.5 scenario is significantly dominant in most South Korea. All scenarios show that cold related extreme temperature events are expected to decrease and hot related extreme temperature events to increase in late future. This study can be utilized by administrative districts for the strategic plan of responses to future climate change.

        지구표면 온도의 변화에 대한 아열대 고기압의 반응

        Three numerical experiments are done using IAP(Institute of Atmospheric Physics) global spectral model(T42L9) to investigate the influence of the surface temperatures on the 7-day simulation. Particularly, the response of the subtropical High in summer to the variation of soil temperature and sea surface temperature(SST) was emphasized through a series of experiments. Experiment 1 uses the June climate data as the earth surface conditions. Experiment 2 is similar to Experiment 1 except for the soil surface temperature. Experiment 3 is the same as Experiment 1 except for the modified SST, which is much warmer than the June climate SST on the sea around the Korean peninsula. The main finding in 7-day simulation is that the response of the subtropical high in summer to the variation of the soil surface temperature was much more than that to the variation of the SST. It is implied that the proper treatment of soil surface temperature is more important than that of the SST for the better 7-day simulation of the subtropical high in summer.

        아열대 채소 활용에 대한 조리사의 인식연구 -Q방법을 중심으로-

        The purpose of this qualitative study is to explore Chef’s perception of Subtropical Vegetable. Subtropical Vegetables have emerged as a new food ingredient in Korea. For this, by applying Q methodology, this paper theoretically defines four differentiated typologies of Chef’s perception. Q-sample is 31 questions, and P-sample is 18 chef. This study is in-depth focused on perception and intention to use. Type 1 ‘ delicious, healthy crops’, Type 2 ‘Limited use due to lack of publicity’, Type 3 ‘Low attention’, and Type 4 ‘ an active receptor’. The result of this research can be used as a qualitative fundamental study of exploring Korean subtropical vegetable market. 본 연구는 아열대 채소에 대한 조리사들의 인식에 대한 질적인 연구이다. 아열대 채소는 최근 새로운 식재료로 등장하고 있다. 이 연구는 Q방법을 이용하여 조리사들의 아열대 채소에 대한 인식과 사용의도를 연구하였다. Q샘플은 31가지 문항을 가지고 분석하였고, P샘플은 18명의 조리사가 참여하였다. 연구결과 조리사들의 아열대 채소에 대한 인식과 사용의도는 4개의 유형으로 나왔는데, 1유형은 ‘맛있고 건강한 채소’, 2유형은 ‘홍보 부족으로 제한적 이용’, 3유형은 ‘낮은 관심도’, 그리고 4유형은 ‘적극적인 수용자’로 분류되었다.
