A New Measurement to Understand Convergence Phenomenon

Kim, Keun-Hwan,Moon, Yeong-Ho Asian Society for Innovation and Policy 2013 Asian Journal of Innovation and Policy Vol.2 No.1

Many scholars have persevered in understanding the convergence process by developing a measurement that reflects the characteristics of the convergence phenomenon as a process. Recently a series of studies suggested a framework in terms of diversity and coherence. However, an index for coherence is required to reflect the vital features of the conceptual definition, and thus a new index for coherence is proposed in this paper. Technology Convergence Index combines diversity and coherence and indicates the degree of the convergence in information computer technology (ICT), biotechnology (BT) and nanotechnology (NT) sectors. The index can not only be used to track each technology field that consists of a major technology sector, but also to compare other leading countries. Based on a comparison study between the United States and South Korea, the degrees of technology convergence of Korea in ICT, BT, and NT sectors have ameliorated.

The Education Game Using Gamification in the Classroom for H-STEAM perspective

Vol.31 No.-

Modern Classroom Education faces many unprecedented challenges and opportunities as a result of rapid developments in digital communication technologies since the birth of the Internet in the early 1990s. Since that time, the generation of students known as "Digital Natives" have been born into a world where desktop and home computers are commonplace. Furthermore, video games are available in homes as well as arcades and mobile phones are becoming ubiquitous. As a consequence, for the first time in history, children have access to electronic devices which they can explore and interact with, sharing their experiences and problems with their peers. From the year 2016, world community began to use the term “4th Industrial Revolution.” Under this futuristic environment, human needs to get used to learn HA-BRID, which are Humanity oriented Artificial intelligence – Biotechnology, Robots, Information technology and Design. Future generation would live with these new concepts all around the life. It is the time to transform the education at the school to adapt the coming situation in proactive manner. This paper examines the impact of digital technologies along with HA-BRID in mind on teaching roles and practices in the classroom. Suggestion would illustrate how the concept of "Gamification" can provide a modern day solution to traditional teaching practices as a new way of transition aiming for the 4th Industrial society to come.

Vol.5 No.1

Vol.3 No.1

This paper aims to analyze urban characteristics of technology knowledge creation by comparing 138 cities over the world. We use technology international patents as the dependent variable. Various independent variables are identified from literature, economic, urban, social infrastructure. We use the regression analysis. The analysis finds that cities with higher human capital (more educated people), more business services, higher urban livability (better climate environment, more health care service, and stronger local public finance) yield more international patents.
