This study aimed to investigate the visuoconstructive abilities and the relationship between visuoconstructive function and language performance in aphasic patients. Right-handed 24 aphasic patients (males 14, females 10) with at least 3 months post-stroke and 32 age-matched healthy controls participated in this study. Visuoconstructive function was assessed by 3 levels of task difficulty: simple (drawing objects), intermediate (clock drawing), and complex (copy subtest of Rey complex figure test and block construction). Aphasic patients were divided into 3 sub-groups (mild, moderate to severe, and ver y severe group) according to severity of aphasia and compared with the control group, respectively. We analyzed the relation all levels of visuoconstructive tasks to aphasia quotient (AQ) and sub-domain scores of K-WAB. Moderate to severe aphasia group demonstrated no significant differences in scores of simple drawing objects compared to controls, but clock drawing, Rey complex figure copy and block design showed significantly decreased scores. Ver y severe group showed significantly lower scores in all levels of visuoconstructive tasks than the control. Correlation between all levels of visuoconstructive tasks except drawing objects and AQ were found to be statistically significant. Among the tasks, the clock drawing test revealed the highest correlation with language performance. Visuoconstructive abilities varied according to the severity of aphasia and the level of visuoconstructive tasks. Therefore, a thorough individual assessment of visuoconstructive function is needed to plan and predict the treatment and prognosis of aphasia and the clock drawing test may be a useful screening tool to evaluate this function.

After-treatment devices have been introduced into construction equipment vehicles due to environmental regulations lately. Despite this, however, the air pollution is still getting worse due to the use of vehicles without post- processing devices, and of aging vehicles. In addition, during a cold start, the PM/NOX purification efficiency is lowered due to the low exhaust gas temperature. To solve this problem, SDPF(Selective Catalytic Reduction on Diesel Particulate Filter) was developed in this study by integrating SCR(Selective Catalytic Reduction) and DPF(Diesel Particulate Filter). To develop SDPF, a mixer, a diffuser angle, and a V-W/TiO₂ catalyst were used, among others. To verify the effectiveness of the developed SDPF in addressing the aforementioned problem, its back pressure and PM/NOX reduction efficiency were measured using an engine dynamometer and emission test devices. The measurements showed that the back pressure of SDPF is lower than that of DPF+SCR, and that it satisfies the EURO-5 regulation. Additional catalytic-activity studies and verifications, however, are necessary.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the muscle activity ratio of the lower limb according to changes in straight leg raise (SLR) test angles on hamstring muscle shortening during squat exercises. Design: Randomized controlled trial. Methods: The subjects were 14 healthy adults who were informed of and agreed to the method and purpose of the study. The participants were classified into SLR groups according to two angles (over $80^{\circ}$ or under $80^{\circ}$) assessed using the SLR tests. After training and practicing the wall squat posture to be applied to the experiment, electromyography (EMG) was used to measure changes in muscle activity during the performance of a wall squat. After stretching, a sequence of pre-stretch tests were performed again, and the active and passive SLR tests were also reconducted; thereafter, a wall squat was performed again by attaching EMG electrodes. The EMG results before and after stretching were compared. Results: The muscle activity of the vastus lateralis oblique muscle increased in both groups. The muscle activity of the vastus medialis oblique muscle decreased in over both group. Rectus femorus activity increased in the under 80-degree groups but decreased in the over 80-degree group. The muscle activity of the biceps femoris muscle decreased after stretching in the over 80-degree group and increased in the under 80-degree group, and the semitendinosus muscle activity after stretching was decreased. The quadriceps-to-hamstring muscle (Q:H) ratio before and after stretching between groups showed that the hamstring muscle ratio decreased after stretching in both groups. Conclusions: The results of this study showed that the Q:H ratio before and after stretching between groups was not significantly different.

Traditionally it has been assumed that written abilities are completely dependent on phonology. Therefore spoken and written language skills in aphasic patients have been known to exhibit similar types of impairment. However, a number of latest studies have reported the findings that support the orthographic autonomy hypothesis. The purpose of this study was to examine whether fluent aphasic patients have discrepancy between speaking and writing skills, thereby identifying whether the two skills are realized through independent processes. To this end, this study compared the K-FAST speaking and writing tasks of 30 aphasia patients. In addition, 16 aphasia patients, who were capable of producing sentences not only in speaking but also in writing, were compared in their performances at each phase of the sentence production process. As a result, the subjects exhibited different performances between speaking and writing, along with statistically significant differences between the two language skills at positional and phonological encoding phases of the sentence production process. Therefore, the study"s results suggest that written language is more likely to be produced via independent routes without the mediation of the process of spoken language production, beginning from a certain phase of the sentence production process.
