      • A Basic Study on Leaf and Stem Production of Angelica acutiloba

        This study was conducted to develop effective production system in greenhouse for leaves and stems of Angelica acutiloba by using connect pots in 2003 and 2004. Seed germination rate and plant biomass of Angelica acutiloba collected in 2004 were higher than those harvested in 2003. Germination rate of Angelica acutiloba seeds collected in 2003 was 10%, while germination rate of seeds collected in 2004 was above 90%. Especially, plant growth and yield of Angelica acutiloba grown in connect pots sized with 4×4×5cm(length×width×height) were the highest. These results indicate that leaf and stem production of Angelica acutiloba can be improved by using connect pots and optimizing seed collecting time in greenhouse.

      • Study on Leaf Production of Angelica acutiloba by Mulching with Polyethylene Film

        This study was conducted to produce effectively more leaves of Angelica acutiloba through year-round production system by using various mulching materials and polyethylene(PE) tunnel. Soil temperature by covering treatment was higher in PE mulching and PE tunnel than in rice straw mulching, especially showing the highest temperature in PE tunnel from April through May. Water content of soil was higher in PE mulching than in non-mulching. Leaf production of Angelica acutiloba through year-round production showed the highest in PE tunnel and root production in PE mulching. These results suggest that leaf production of Angelica acutiloba can be maximized through PE tunnel cultivation system.

      • Effect of Activated Charcoal on Growth of Zingiber mioga ROSC

        Activate charcoal (AC) can be utilized as a soil conditioner in agricultural crop areas. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of AC on growth and yield of Zingiber mioga ROSC as affected by different amounts of AC. The results obtained are summarized as follows. Growth characteristics including plant height and leaf length were the highest when activated charcoal added with 10-30%, suggesting that optimum amount of activated charcoal was ranged from 10 to 30%. Growth and enlargement of the root were improved by 10% AC with higher rhizome length and weight.

      • 오렌지 껍질로부터 분리된 프라보노이드의 화학요법 감작효과

        Background and Objectives : The overexpression of P-glycoprotein (Pgp) or multidrug resistanceassociated protein (MRP) confers multidrug resistance (MDR) to cancer cells. MDR cells could be sensitized to anticancer drugs when treated concomitantly with a chemosensitizer. In this study, orange peel have been screened for the development of chemosensitizers reversing MDR. Materials and methods : Expression of Pgp in AML-2/WT and AML-2/D100 were determined using western blot analysis and RT-PCR. Candidates for chemosensitizers were isolated, purified from orange peel using sephadex LH-20 column chromatography and silica-gel column chromatography, whose structure was determined using ^1H-NMR, ^13C-NMR, ^1H-^1H-COSY, 13C-NMR, EI-Mass, IR. Chemosensitizing effect of NP-28 on AML-2/DX100 over expressing Pgp and MRP was determined by the MTT assay. Membrane toxicity was evaluated by the RBC hemolysis test. Antioxidant effects were examined by using a fluorescence probe (2’-7’-dichlorofluorescein diacetate). Results : A potent candidate, NP-28, has a flavonoid nucleus with some methoxy moiety. NP-28 is believed to have high therapeutic index, being non-transportable inhibitor and possibly, of inhibiting other efflux pumps such as MRP and antioxidant effects. NP-28 is also unlikely to be a substrate of Pgp. NP-28 did not increase Pgp levels. Conclusion : NP-28 has a Chemosensitizing effect to reverse Pgp-mediated MDR by increasing the intracellular accumulation of drugs. Furthermore, they do not increase expression of Pgp, which can allow a long term use without the concern about Pgp activation. NP-28 is anticipated as an ideal second-generation flavonoid chemosensitizer and/or possibly other therapeutic agents by further investigation.

      • A Study on Storage of a Major Herbal Medicine Material, Peucedani Radix

        To develop optimal storage method of root of Peucedani Radix, which has been grown as major cultural herbal medicine material, root of Peucedani Radix was stored for 10 months with different packing materials and sealing methods. The loss in dry weight as influenced by packing materials and sealing methods was the lowest at vacuum packing and followed by complete sealing methods with transparent polyethylene film. The ratio of root rot during the storage period was not significantly different between packing materials but was significantly different between sealing conditions. Conclusively vacuum packing and complete sealing with polyethylene film appears to be optimal for storage of Peucedani Radix.

      • Pefloxacin의 광분해에 관한 연구 Ⅰ

        We investigated the photodegradation of pefloxacin(PFX) in some conditions. Pefloxacin was decomposed by light with different patterns in several solvents-ethanol, methanol and water. In the neutral and alkaline the rate of photo-degradation was more rapid than in acidic. When oxygen was replaced to N_2 gas, we found that it prevent pefloxacin from photodegrada-tion. Using the singlet oxygen scavenges-sodium azide and α-tocopherol, we obtained an indica-tive evidence of that photo-degradation pathway is mediated by singlet oxygen.

      • 全北經濟의 停滯性 克服에 관한 硏究

        This research is to give light upon the cause of stagnated economy of Chonbuk province by comparing the interreginal conditions of economy mainly since 1960s which is the period between Japanese Colony and the development of this province, and to propose its measures to overcome it. Chonbuk region, Since its opening of Kunsan port, through the term of Japanese colony, had been degenerated into a relative area of stagnation compared with other areas due to land seizure and exploitation of agricultural products by Japan. Thus since the opening of port the structure of economy in Chonbuk region was deformed into that is typical monoculture from colonial exploitation. Of course, althrough the structure of Korean economy under Japanese colony was generally maimed through exploitative structure of economy, it was demonstrated by substantiation data, that Chonbuk region with its opulent exploited as a primary object area of exploitation by Japan. Deprived of its autogenous vitality and alienated even from "the age of development" for decades, economical structure of Chonbuk province couldn't but be still aggravated rather than improved. Eventurally the gap between present growing regions is more over deepening through the compound geometrical functions of various factors that restrict regional development of economy as analyzed above.

        일부 서울지역 여대생의 체질량지수에 따른 영양섭취 실태조사

        The purpose of this study was to evaluate the nutrient and food intake status in underweight female college students living in Seoul. 126 underweight(BMI <20) and 74 normal weight(20≤ BMI<25) students were asked for their daily food intake and eating habits by using 3-day food records and questionnaire. We analyzed the amounts of the nutrient intakes and food groups as the subjects. The mean of height and weight were 162.1㎝ and 49.0㎏ in underweight and 160.6㎝and 54.9㎏ in normal weight subjects. The mean energy, iron, and vitamin A intakes among the students were smaller than RDA for Koreans. The mean calcium(p<0.01), sodium(p<0.05), and vitamin B₂(p<0.05) intakes in underweight subjects were significantly higher than those in normal weight subjects. Total food intakes of underweight and normal weight students were 1235.8g and 1078.1g, respectively. The mean of the pulse group in the underweight was significantly higher than that in normal group(p<0.01). Frequently consumed food or dish items of the subjects were Kimchi, cooked rice, and milk. In the relation between BMI and dietary factors, the BMI was found to have a significant negative correlation with calcium intake(p<0.05), pulse intake(p<0.01) and eating habit score(p<0.01). Eating habit scores about quantity of food and lipid intake showed a significant difference between underweight and normal students.

        청량음료용 고강도 감미료의 혼용 비율에 따른 관능적 특성 및 저장기간 산정

        This study investigated the sensory characteristics of mixtures of high-intensity sweeteners for beverage and estiniated the shelf life during storage. Sensory characteristics of mixtures of sweeteners (Aspartame/Acesulfarne-K, Aspartame/Sucralose and Acesulfame-K/Stevioside) were evaluated in aqueous (ranging from 90:10 to 50:50) and citrate buffer (ranging from 90:10 to 50:50) solutions, Significant synergistic effects were found in Aspartame/Acesulfarue-K and Aspartame/Sucralose mixtures. No significant differences were found in other taste attributes (astringency, bitterness, metallic taste etc.). Aspartame/Acesulfame-K 5:5 solution showed the most acceptable sensory attributes. Q_(10) values of Aspartame and Accsulfamc-K mixture in citrate buffer (ranging from 90:10 to 50:50) solution were calculated from the temperature data (between 40℃ and 50℃ ) determined by HPLC. Q_(10) values were in the range of 2.01-2.25. Their shelf lives were calculated to be lengthened with increasing Acesulfame-K mixture ratio Their shelf lives in Aspartame/Acesulfame-K 5:5 citrate buffer solution estimated at 20℃ and 30℃ were 178 days and 88 days, respectively.
