        3분과 : 가선집재작업에서의 작업 생산성 및 비용 분석

        본 연구에서는 임목수확작업에 사용되는 집재기계의 작업효율성을 분석하여 경사가 급한(20° 이상) 작업조건에 적합한 가선계 집재기계를 선정하는데 기초 정보를 제공하고자, 타워야더(RME-300T), 트랙터부착형 집재기(일명: 춘천집재기), 트랙터윈치(FARMI) 등에 의한 집재작업에서의 작업생산성 및 비용을 비교 분석하였다. 평균 흉고직경이 20 cm, 집재거리 60 m, 가로집재거리 10 m, 그리고 기계이용률이 70%인 동일한 작업 조건에서 작업이 이루어질 경우, 타워야더의 1일 집재작업 생산성은 33.04 m3/일, 트랙터부착형 집재기는 38.47 m3/일, 그리고 트랙터윈치는 14.17 m3/일으로 분석되었으며, 이에 따른 집재작업비용은 각각 25,105원/m3, 20,520원/m3, 37,835원/m3으로 나타났다. 동일한 작업조건에서 집재거리에 따른 각 집재기계별 작업효율성을 비교하였을 경우, 집재거리가 40 m 이내로 짧을 경우에는 트랙터윈치에 의한 집재작업이 효율적이며, 40~140 m의 집재거리에서는 춘천집재기가, 140 m 이상의 장거리 집재작업에서는 타워야더가 가장 효율적인 것으로 나타났다. This study was conducted to provide field-based harvesting study information which can be used to select an optimal cable system for certain work conditions on steep grounds (>20° ground slope) in Korea. Toaccomplish this study objectives, we evaluated three cable yarding systems (RME-300T tower-yarder, Chuncheontower-yarder, FARMI tractor winch) working in typical work conditions for their yarding productivity and operational efficiency. Those yarders are commonly used for removing logs or trees on steep grounds in Korea. Under the same work conditions (average DBH of tree to be cut, 20 cm; yarding distance, 60 m; lateral yardingdistance, 10 m; and machine utilization rate, 70%), the average productivities were 33.04 m3/day, 38.47 m3/day, and 14.17 m3/day for RME-300T, Chuncheon tower-yarder, and FARMI, respectively. Our standardized cost comparison study also showed that the yarding cost was highest at 37,835 won/m3 with FARMI, followed byRME-300T at 25,105 won/m3 for the same work conditions. We found the lowest yarding cost with the Chuncheon tower-yarder at 20,520 won/m3 which was resulted primarily from high yarding productivity at theyarding distance (60 m). Our analysis suggested that a small machine such as FARMI could be a low-costyarding machine option for a cable yarding job with a short yarding distance (40 m or less). The Chuncheontower-yarder is well suited for a mid-range yarding distance job in Korea, ranged between 40 to 140 m. Ifyarding distance were longer than 140 m, the RME-300T tower yarder appears to be most cost-effective.

        Long-term postresection prognosis of primary neuroendocrine tumors of the liver

        Purpose: Primary hepatic neuroendocrine tumor (PHNET) is a very rare neoplasm, requiring strict exclusion of metastasis from possible extrahepatic primary sites for its diagnosis. Methods: We reviewed our clinical experience of 13 patients with primary hepatic NET who underwent liver resection from January 1997 to December 2015. Results: The mean age of the 13 patients (8 males and 5 females) was 51.1 ± 12.8 years; the most common clinical manifestation was vague, nonspecific abdominal pain (n = 9). Of them, 11 patients underwent preoperative liver biopsy, 7 of which correctly diagnosed as neuroendocrine tumor (NET). Ten patients underwent R0 resection, and 3 underwent R1 resection. Diagnosis of PHNET was confirmed both immunohistochemically and by absence of extrahepatic primary sites. All tumors were single lesions, with a mean size of 9.6 ± 7.6 cm and a median size of 4.3 cm; all showed positive staining for synaptophysin and chromogranin. During a mean follow-up period of 95.1 ± 86.6 months, 7 patients died from tumor recurrence, whereas the other 6 remain alive to date, making the 5-year tumor recurrence rate 56.0% and the 5-year patient survival rate 61.5%. When confined to R0 resection, 5-year recurrence and survival rates were 42.9% and 70.0%, respectively. Univariate analysis showed that Ki-67 proliferative index was the only risk factor for tumor recurrence. Conclusion: PHNET is a very rare tumor with no specific clinical features, and its final diagnosis depends primarily on pathology, immunohistochemistry, and exclusion of metastasis from other sites. Aggressive surgical treatment is highly recommended for PHNET because of acceptably favorable postresection outcomes

      • Benzyl Isothiocyanate Inhibits Prostate Cancer Development in the Transgenic Adenocarcinoma Mouse Prostate (TRAMP) Model, Which Is Associated with the Induction of Cell Cycle G1 Arrest

        <P>Benzyl isothiocyanate (BITC) is a hydrolysis product of glucotropaeolin, a compound found in cruciferous vegetables, and has been shown to have anti-tumor properties. In the present study, we investigated whether BITC inhibits the development of prostate cancer in the transgenic adenocarcinoma mouse prostate (TRAMP) mice. Five-week old, male TRAMP mice and their nontransgenic littermates were gavage-fed with 0, 5, or 10 mg/kg of BITC every day for 19 weeks. The weight of the genitourinary tract increased markedly in TRAMP mice and this increase was suppressed significantly by BITC feeding. H and E staining of the dorsolateral lobes of the prostate demonstrated that well-differentiated carcinoma (WDC) was a predominant feature in the TRAMP mice. The number of lobes with WDC was reduced by BITC feeding while that of lobes with prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia was increased. BITC feeding reduced the number of cells expressing Ki67 (a proliferation marker), cyclin A, cyclin D1, and cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK)2 in the prostatic tissue. <I>In vitro</I> cell culture results revealed that BITC decreased DNA synthesis, as well as CDK2 and CDK4 activity in TRAMP-C2 mouse prostate cancer cells. These results indicate that inhibition of cell cycle progression contributes to the inhibition of prostate cancer development in TRAMP mice treated with BITC.</P>

      • Jugular Foramen Schwannoma: Analysis on Its Origin and Location

        OBJECTIVE:: To examine the microsurgical anatomy of the jugular foramen and correlate anatomical findings to clinical manifestations of jugular foramen schwannomas concerning tumor origin and location. STUDY DESIGN:: Anatomical analysis of jugular foramen was performed by dissection of 25 cadavers (50 sides). By retrospective review of 9 cases of jugular foramen schwannomas surgically treated, the origin and location of tumor were studied. SETTING:: Tertiary referral center. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:: The anatomical characteristics of jugular foramen, lower cranial nerves, and inferior petrosal sinus were correlated with the origin and growth pattern of jugular foramen schwannomas. RESULTS:: The superior and inferior ganglions of the glossopharyngeal nerve and the superior ganglion of the vagus nerve were located within the jugular foramen. The superior ganglions of the glossopharyngeal and vagus nerves were located superiorly, whereas the inferior ganglion of the glossopharyngeal nerve was found inferiorly in relation to the inferior petrosal sinus orifice. In our series of 9 cases of jugular foramen schwannoma, the most common nerve of origin was the vagus nerve, followed by the glossopharyngeal nerve. CONCLUSION:: The reason for the predilection of the jugular foramen schwannoma for the glossopharyngeal and vagus nerves may be associated with the presence of their ganglions within the jugular foramen. Also, the inferior petrosal sinus may act as a barrier to tumor growth, and the location of the ganglion of tumor origination within the jugular foramen in relation to the inferior petrosal sinus may be correlated to the predominant direction of tumor extension.

        Effect of Enhancers on in vitro and in vivo Skin Permeation and Deposition of S-Methyl-<sub>L</sub>-Methionine

        S-methyl-<sub>L</sub>-methionine (SMM), also known as vitamin U, is commercially available as skin care cosmetic products for its wound healing and photoprotective effects. However, the low skin permeation expected of SMM due to its hydrophilic nature with a log P value of -3.3, has not been thoroughly addressed. The purpose of this study thus was to evaluate the effect of skin permeation enhancers on the skin permeation/deposition of SMM. Among the enhancers tested for the in vitro skin permeation and deposition of SMM, oleic acid showed the most significant enhancing effect. Moreover, the combination of oleic acid and ethanol further enhanced in vitro permeation and deposition of SMM through hairless mouse skin. Furthermore, the combination of oleic acid and ethanol significantly increased the in vivo deposition of SMM in the epidermis/dermis for 12 hr, which was high enough to exert a therapeutic effect. Therefore, based on the in vitro and in vivo studies, the combination of oleic acid and ethanol was shown to be effective in improving the topical skin delivery of SMM, which may be applied in the cosmetic production process for SMM.

        Factors Associated with Indeterminate and False Negative Results of QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-Tube Test in Active Tuberculosis

        Background: The sensitivities and specificities of interferon-gamma release assays (IGRAs) vary among different population studies, and the data on the routine use of IGRAs are limited. The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-Tube (QFT-GIT) test in the diagnosis of active tuberculosis. Methods: We conducted a prospective study, enrolling 77 patients with suspected pulmonary tuberculosis (TB), at a secondary care teaching hospital in Seoul. Results: In total, 12 (15.6%) patients showed indeterminate results due to positive control failure on the QFT-GIT test. Indeterminate results were significantly associated with the elderly, history of the intensive care unit stay, lymphocytopenia, especially low CD4 count, increased C-reactive protein and decreased protein levels. Of the 77 patients, 44 (57.1%) were diagnosed with active pulmonary tuberculosis, and the percentage of false negative results of the QFT-GIT was 36.4% (vs. 31.8% with TST). In the TB group with >65 years old (n=12), the proportions of the indeterminate (33.3% vs. 3.1%) and the false negative results (58.3% vs. 25.0%) of the QFT-GIT were significantly higher than in the younger TB group (n=32). Conclusion: Indeterminate and false negative results of QFT-GIT test were not infrequent in tuberculosis, especially in the elderly. Care should be considered for the interpretation with the elderly, immunocompromised, chronic and severely diseased patients.

      • The Co-expression Analysis of MYB Transcription Factors from Arabidopsis and Rice

        MYB proteins are a superfamily of transcription factors (TF) that play regulatory roles in developmental processes and resistance mechanism in plants. We identified 130 and 109 genes in the MYB superfamily from an analysis of the complete Arabidopsis and rice genome sequence. Although microarray based transcriptome analysis approach allows the investigation of the biological networks of MYB TF in DNA level, the underling mechanisms related to their functional role is not fully understood. In this work, we performed meta-analysis of public microarray data that analyzed with Arabidopsis and rice using co-expression analysis. A phylogenetic comparison of the members of this superfamily were performed with Sorghum bicolour to suggested that MYB super family underwent a rapid expansion their evolutionary times. We identified conserved expression pairs which play important role in transcription. Our comprehensive analysis of this huge transcription factor of Arabidopsis and rice may shed further light on the possible biological roles of the MYB TF in various plants.

        The Correlation of Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia 3 Detected by Cervical Punch Biopsies with the Pathologic Results of Conization and Hysterectomy

        To know the correlation of punch-biopsy proven cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) 3 with the results of cone and hysterectomy. Methods We reviewed the medical records from 1999 to 2008, retrospectively, at a single institution. We checked age, cone and hysterectomy biopsy results, preoperative cervical smear results as well as human papillomavirus results. Results There were 104 patients whose punch biopsy results were CIN 3. 59 (56.7%) patients underwent cone and 45 did hysterectomy after punch biopsies. Cone found 6.8% of cervical cancer. Among patients undergoing hysterectomy without cone, 8.9% had cervical cancers. There were a lot of inflammations, atypical squamous cells of unknown significance, low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion done as a Pap results just before cone. The positive rate of HPV was 80.0%. There were 5.1% of underestimated and 6.8% of over-estimated results according to the cone results, and 6.7% of under-estimated and 8.9% of overestimated according to the hysterectomy results. Conclusion Through conization, 93.2% of the patients whose punch biopsy results were CIN 3 had CIN and did not need hysterectomy, and 6.8% had cervical cancers and might need further treatment. Through hysterectomy, 91.2% had CIN and might undergo overtreatment.
