Convex combination of direct frequency estimators

Direct frequency estimator (DFE) has recently been proposed for unbiased frequency estimation of a real tone in white noise. This paper proposes to improve the performance of the DFE using a convex combination of two DFEs. Each DFE is adapted independently to retain its performance advantage, and the estimation results are then adaptively combined for optimal performance. The convex combination scheme offers improved tracking and accuracy. Simulations show that the proposed estimator performs better than the conventional DFE.

We have investigated the ferroelectric properties of integrated Pt/SrBi2Ta2O9 (SBT)/Pt capacitors with capacitor-level dielectric of boron phosphosilicate glass (BPSG). A signicant reduction of remanent polarization (P-P^) was observed in the SBT capacitor as covered with BPSG lm and the polarization decay depended strongly on top electorde size. Detailed analyses showed the degradation resulted from bismuth loss in the surface region of SBT, which is closely related with the impurites diused from BPSG into SBT layer. The degradation of Pt/SBT/Pt ferroelectric capacitor was successfully prevented by inserting SiO2 layer as a impurity blocking layer between the SBT and the BPSG. Thereby device performances of SBT-based ferroelectric memory were also considerably improved.
Affine Projection Algorithm with Improved Data-Selective Method Using the Condition Number

<P>Recently, a data-selective method has been proposed to achieve low misalignment in affine projection algorithm (APA) by keeping the condition number of an input data matrix small. We present an improved method, and a complexity reduction algorithm for the APA with the data-selective method. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has lower misalignment and a lower condition number for an input data matrix than both the conventional APA and the APA with the previous data-selective method.</P>
DEVELOPMENT OF THE SPACE CODE FOR NUCLEARPOWER PLANTS

The Korean nuclear industry is developing a thermal-hydraulic analysis code for safety analysis of pressurized waterreactors (PWRs). The new code is called the Safety and Performance Analysis Codefor Nuclear Power Plants (SPACE). TheSPACE code adopts advanced physical modeling of two-phase flows, mainly two-fluid three-field models which comprisegas, continuous liquid, and droplet fields and has the capability to simulate 3D effects by the use of structured and/or non-structured meshes. The programming language for the SPACE code is C++ for object-oriented code architecture. The SPACEcode will replace outdated vendor supplied codes and will be used for the safety analysis of operating PWRs and the design ofadvanced reactors. This paper describes the overall features of the SPACE code and shows the code assessment results forseveral conceptual and separate effect test problems.
Highly efficient gene knockout in mice and zebrafish with RNA-guided endonucleases

<P>RNA-guided endonucleases (RGENs), derived from the prokaryotic Type II CRISPR-Cas system, enable targeted genome modification in cells and organisms. Here we describe the establishment of gene-knockout mice and zebrafish by the injection of RGENs as Cas9 protein:guide RNA complexes or <I>Cas9</I> mRNA plus guide RNA into one-cell-stage embryos of both species. RGENs efficiently generated germline transmittable mutations in up to 93% of newborn mice with minimal toxicity. RGEN-induced mutations in the mouse <I>Prkdc</I> gene that encodes an enzyme critical for DNA double-strand break repair resulted in immunodeficiency both in <I>F</I><SUB>0</SUB> and <I>F</I><SUB>1</SUB> mice. We propose that RGEN-mediated mutagenesis in animals will greatly expedite the creation of genetically engineered model organisms, accelerating functional genomic research.</P>
Semi-Functional Quantitative Flow Cytometry Assay for Lymphocytic Choriomeningitis Virus Titration

<P>Quantitative PCR and plaque assay are powerful virological techniques used to measure the load of defective or infectious virus in mouse and human. However, these methods display limitations such as cross contamination and long run-time. Here, we describe a novel technique termed as semi-functional quantitative flow cytometry (SFQF) for the accurate estimation of the quantity of infectious lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (LCMV). LCMV titration method using flow cytometry was previously developed but has technical shortcomings, owing to the less optimized parameters such as cell overgrowth, plate scale, and detection threshold. Therefore, we first established optimized conditions for SFQF assay using LCMV nucleoprotein (NP)-specific antibody to evaluate the threshold of the virus detection range in the plaque assay. We subsequently demonstrated that the optimization of the method increased the sensitivity of virus detection. We revealed several new advantages of SFQF assay, which overcomes some of the previously contentious points, and established an upgraded version of the previously reported flow cytometric titration assay. This method extends the detection scale to the level of single cell, allowing extension of its application for <I>in vivo</I> detection of infected cells and their phenotypic analysis. Thus, SFQF assay may serve as an alternative analytical tool for ensuring the reliability of LCMV titration and can be used with other types of viruses using target-specific antibodies.</P>
KMB 알고리즘과 지역적 최적화를 기반으로한 동적 멀티캐스팅 알고리즘

KMB 알고리즘은 정적인 Steiner문제를 해결하기 위한 알고리즘으로서 최적화된 트리 비용의 두배를 넘지 않는 트리를 생산하다. 그러나, 이 알고리즘은 동적인 Steiner 트리 문제를 해결하기 위한 방법에서는 제외되어 왔다. 본 논문에서는 이미 알려진 동적인 멀티캐스트 라우팅 알고리즘인 Greedy 알고리즘과 GSDM 알고리즘을 고찰하고, 동적인 Steiner 문제를 해결하기 위해 KMB 알고리즘을 지역적으로 적용하는 방법을 제안한다.
