Theoretical analysis and experiment for supersonic flow around the wedges have been conducted. Wedges are being used as a means of measuring a flow direction, Mach No., a basic study of inlet or combustion chamber of ramjet and scramjet engine. We use a shock tunnel to get a supersonic flow conditions and schlieren system to visualize supersonic flow field around wedge. Numerical simulation is also conducted by Harten-Yee type 2nd-order Total Variable Diminishing(TVD) scheme and oblique shock theory. Comparison of calculated results with experimental data is in good agreement.

This study was designed to investigate the optimum recommendation level on Gastrodia rhizoma and the effects on the improvement of the lipids in the dietary hypercholesterolemic rats. Experimental diets mixed with 5% Dioscorea batatas(Group 2), 10% Dioscorea batatas(Group 3), 15% Dioscorea batatas(Group 4), 5% Gastrodia rhizoma(Group 5), 10% Gastrodia rhizoma (Group 6) and 15% Gastrodia rhizoma(Group 7) were administered to the male rats of the Sprague Dawley for 3 weeks. Concentration of total cholesterol in serum was lower in the Gastrodia rhizoma groups than in the other groups, especially total cholesterol concentration of 10% Gastrodia rhizoma(Group 6) was the lowest in the Gastrodia rhizoma groups. Concentration of HDL-cholesterol in serum was higher in the 10% Gastrodia rhizoma and 15% Gastrodia rhizoma than in the other groups. Concentrations of cholesterylester, LDL, LDL-cholesterol in serum were the lowest in the 10% Gastrodia rhizoma. Concentration of glucose and activity of GPT in serum were the lowest in the 10% Gastrodia rhizoma group. The activity of GOT in serum was lower in the 10% Gastrodia rhizoma group and 15% Gastrodia rhizoma group than in the other groups. Therefore, we consider that there are effects on the improvement of the lipids in the Gastrodia rhizoma and the optimum recommendation quantity of Gastrodia rhizoma is 10% to quantity of food composition.

Abstract

Enteromyxum leei and Parvicapsula anisocaudata have been reported to cause emaciation disease in cultured olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus in Jeju Island, Korea, but there is no consensus regarding its causative agent. A total of 60 cultured olive flounders were obtained from 12 fisheries, and divided into 5 groups according to their relative condition factor. We investigated the correlation between the relative condition factor and parasite infection using molecular diagnostics to identify the etiological agent of the emaciation disease. Metagenome results showed that, in addition to olive flounder genes, the myxosporean gene was the most abundant in the intestine and urinary bladder. The results of multiplex PCR assay revealed high levels of detection of E. leei genes in the intestines of samples having a relative condition factor <70% whereas the gene of P. anisocaudata was detected at high levels in the urinary bladders of all sample groups. In addition, statistical analyses indicated a significant association between decrease in relative condition factor and E. leei infection but not P. anisocaudata infection. We suggest that the emaciation disease is caused by E. leei and the parasite decrease relative condition factor to <70%.

Highlights

Emaciation disease in cultured olive flounder of Korea is a notorious disease.

The causative agents were identified using molecular diagnostic tools.

Two myxosporeans were recognized as potential etiological agent.

Infection with Enteromyxum leei decreases rCF of cultured olive flounders.

Disinfection is essential in terms of the public health or environmental hygiene. Hypochlorous acid (HOCI) solution was developed as a disinfectant in Korea. We evaluated the gemicidal activity of HOCI against various pathogenic microbes. Thirty-one ATCC strains were exposed to HOCI solution at various concentrations (20, 40 and 80 ppm) for 1 minute. All the strains of bacteria, yeasts and mycobacteria were killed at 80 ppm after exposure to HOCI. The results suggest that HOCI solution could be used to effectively disinfect public areas.

Thelohanellus kitauei was isolated from the koi Cyprinus carpio haematopterus, and the 18S rRNA gene of T. kitauei was amplified by optimised nested-PCR. The PCR product was sequenced and compared with other 18S rRNA genes of Thelohanellus species to investigate the relationships between their host specificities and infection sites. Based on the 18S rRNA sequences, T. kitauei is most closely related to T. hovorkai (which can infect the intestine). Phylogenetic analysis revealed that T. kitauei was clustered with other Thelohanellus spp. infecting Cyprininae. The present study suggests that the infection site and the host specificity (subfamily level) are reflected in the genetic relationships among Thelohanellus species.
