        Effect of extraction treatment on upper airway dimensions in patients with bimaxillary skeletal protrusion relative to their vertical skeletal pattern

        Objective: To investigate dimensional changes in regional pharyngeal airway spaces after premolar extraction in bimaxillary skeletal protrusion (BSP) patients according to vertical skeletal pattern, and to further identify dentoskeletal risk factors to predict posttreatment pharyngeal changes. Methods: Fiftyfive adults showing BSP treated with microimplant anchorage after four premolar extractions were included in this retrospective study. The subjects were divided into two groups according to the mandibular plane steepness: hyperdivergent (Frankfort horizontal plane to mandibular plane [FH-MP] ≥ 30) and nonhyperdivergent groups (FH-MP < 30). The control group consisted of 20 untreated adults with skeletal Class I normodivergent pattern and favorable profile. Treatment changes in cephalometric variables were evaluated and compared. The association between posttreatment changes in the dentoskeletal and upper airway variables were analyzed using linear regression analysis. Results: The BSP patients showed no significant decrease in the pharyngeal dimensions to the lower level in comparison with controls, except for middle airway space (MAS, p < 0.01). The upper airway variable representing greater decrease in the hyperdivergent group than in the nonhyperdivergent group was the MAS (p < 0.01). Posttreatment changes in FH-MP had negative correlation with changes in MAS (β = –0.42, p < 0.01) and inferior airway space (β = –0.52, p < 0.01) as a result of multivariable regression analysis adjusted for sagittal skeletal relationship. Conclusions: Decreased pharyngeal dimensions after treatment in BSP patients showed no significant difference from the normal range of pharyngeal dimensions. However, the glossopharyngeal airway space may be susceptible to treatment when vertical dimension increased in hyperdivergent BSP patients.

      • The Effect of Heat- or Alkali-Treated β-Glucan on Macrophages-Mediated Immune Response

        β-Glucan is well-established immune boosting agent, and its impact on Dectin-1 is dependent on particular nature such as structure and physical properties. In this experiment, we compared the physical properties and immunositmulatory activity depend on pretreatment method in macrophages. The alkali-treated β-glucan had a distinct shape and smaller particles size than untreated β-glucan. The reduced particle size was favorable for the stability of suspension, resulting it appeared that the suspension was completely dissolved into an amorphous mass. Furthermore, alkali treatment improved the immunostimulating activity of β-glucan, while it was reduced by treatment with heat-treated β-glucan in macrophages. Moreover, we confirmed the immunomodulatory activities of β-glucan with reduced particle size using wet-grinding system. These results suggested that controlling the particle size of β-glucan is critically important for immune response in macrophages. Thus, β-glucan could be utilized in the nutraceuticals or pharmacological therapies to improve the immune response by controlling the particle size.

        더빙 앱 학습활동이 초등 4학년의 영어 말하기 요소 및 정의적 영역에 미치는 영향

        The purpose of this study was to analyze video dubbing effects on speaking elements of English and affective areas of 4th grade elementary English learners. Twenty students participated in the activity of dubbing five videoclips selected from a dubbing application called 2DUB. The conclusions are as follows. First, learning by video dubbing had a positive effect on the improvement of pronunciation and suprasegmental phonemes required for the speaking ability, because significant improvements were found in all areas of pronunciation, stress, rhythm, and intonation. In particular, it could be a more effective learning method for students of low to intermediate ability than for those of higher ability. It also had a positive effect on both male and female students in improving pronunciation and rhythm. Second, it had a positive effect on interest and anxiety among the affective areas. In particular, male students showed a significant reduction in anxiety which means learning by video dubbing can not only be an effective way to induce interest in learning English but can also be usefully used to lower male students’ anxiety toward learning English. Based on these conclusions, important implications and suggestions were included.

        Neuregulin 1 Controls Glutamate Uptake by Up-regulating Excitatory Amino Acid Carrier 1 (EAAC1)

        <P>Neuregulin 1 (NRG1) is a trophic factor that is thought to have important roles in the regulating brain circuitry. Recent studies suggest that NRG1 regulates synaptic transmission, although the precise mechanisms remain unknown. Here we report that NRG1 influences glutamate uptake by increasing the protein level of excitatory amino acid carrier (EAAC1). Our data indicate that NRG1 induced the up-regulation of EAAC1 in primary cortical neurons with an increase in glutamate uptake. These <I>in vitro</I> results were corroborated in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) of mice given NRG1. The stimulatory effect of NRG1 was blocked by inhibition of the NRG1 receptor ErbB4. The suppressed expression of ErbB4 by siRNA led to a decrease in the expression of EAAC1. In addition, the ablation of ErbB4 in parvalbumin (PV)-positive neurons in PV-ErbB4<SUP>−/−</SUP> mice suppressed EAAC1 expression. Taken together, our results show that NRG1 signaling through ErbB4 modulates EAAC1. These findings link proposed effectors in schizophrenia: NRG1/ErbB4 signaling perturbation, EAAC1 deficit, and neurotransmission dysfunction.</P>

        Canavalia gladiata regulates the immune responses of macrophages differently depending on the extraction method

        Recent studies have suggested that Canavalia gladiate, a dietary food and traditional folk medicine, has promising pharmaceutical potential, but the effects have mostly been demonstrated using its organo-soluble extract. To date, its immunomodulatory effect depending on the extraction method is unclear. Here, the immune responses of macrophages to C. gladiate and the underlying mechanisms were studied. C. gladiate hot water extract (CGW) induced cytokine production in bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs) in a dose-dependent manner, whereas its ethanolic extract (CGE) did not. Immunoblotting analysis also showed that CGW activated nuclear factor (NF)-κB and mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs). Moreover, an inhibitor assay revealed the involvement of NF-κB, p38, and JNK, but not ERK, in CGW-induced cytokine production. CGE inhibited lipopolysaccharide-stimulated production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and activation of NF-κB and MAPKs in BMDMs. The results suggest that C. gladiate regulates the immune responses of macrophages differently depending on the extraction method.

        정서·행동장애 학생 및 위험학생을 담당하는 교원의 역량제고에 관한 문헌연구

        연구목적: 본 연구는 정서·행동장애 학생 및 위험학생을 담당하는 교원의 역량제고에 관한 국외 논문을 고찰함으로써 관련 연구동향을 파악하고, 이를 토대로 교원들을 효과적으로 지원하기 위하여 나아가야 할 연구방향을 모색하고자 하였다. 연구방법: 2007년에서부터 2017년까지 출판된 정서 행동장애 학생의 교원 교육에 관한 연구를 분석하였다. 선정기준과 제외 기준에 따라 총 12편의 분석 대상 논문이 선정되었고, 7가지 분석변인에 따라 연구동향을 분석하였다. 연구결과: 교원 교육의 방법은 크게 개별교육과 집단교육으로 나뉘며, 교육의 내용은 개별적인 증거기반의 실제를 적용한 경우와 종합적인 증거기반의 실제를 적용한 경우로 분류할 수 있다. 결론: 후속연구에서는 보다 다양한 증거기반의 실제와 교육형태가 교원 교육에 활용 되어야 하고, 학생 관련 변인 및 유지에 대한 측정이 이루어져야 하며, 중도의 정서 행동장애 학생을 담당하는 교원들을 위한 교육이 전개되어야 한다. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyse research on expanding teacher"s capacity for students with emotional and behavioral disorders or difficulties, and to provide research directions on how to effectively support teachers. Method: A total of 12 articles published in journals from 2007-2017 was selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Research trends were analyzed by publication year, research participants, sites, methods, independent variables, dependent variables, fidelity, and maintenance. Results: The study results revealed that the type of teacher education was largely divided into individual education and collective education. Also, contents used in teacher education were individual evidence-based practices or comprehensive evidence-based practices. Conclusion: Suggestion for future research is that more diverse evidence-based practices and forms of education should be used in teacher education. It is also critical to consider measuring student related variables and maintenance. Finally, programs for teachers interacting with students with severe emotional and behavioral disorders should be developed.

        한국과 중국 대도시 여성소비자의 녹색소비행동 비교연구

        녹색소비행동에 대한 전세계적인 관심이 급증되고 있지만 아직까지 미국과 서유럽에 비해 아시아 지역의 관심은 미비한 편이며 이와 관련된 연구는 미국과 유럽에 비해 그리 많지 않다. 그렇기 때문에 아시아 소비자들의 녹색소비행동을 분석하여 올바른 녹색소비를 유도하는 것은 해당 지역의 국민들뿐만 아니라 전세계적으로 환경문제를 해결하는데 도움이 될 수 있을 것이다. 특히 아시아 국가 중 세계경제포럼(WEF)이 평가하는 환경성과지수(EPI)에서 1990˜2004년 온실가스 증가율 1위이자 온실가스 배출 10위인 한국과 지난 30년 동안 연평균 10%에 이르는 고도성장이 진행되어 심각한 환경문제에 직면한 중국에 거주하는 각 국의 소비자들의 녹색소비 행동을 살펴보는 것은 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 서울과 베이징에 거주하는 20˜30대 여성소비자를 대상으로 한국은 총 201부, 중국은 총 100부로 설문조사를 실시하여 최종적으로 292부를 분석에 사용하였다. 사회적 지위 향상과 함께 구매력까지 갖추게 된 여성소비자를 비교·분석하는 것은 향후 녹색소비와 시장의 흐름을 예상하고 이를 바람직한 방향으로 이끄는데 중요하다고 판단한다. 본 연구 결과, 한국 여성소비자가 중국 여성소비자에 비해 환경지식과 태도는 높았지만 녹색소비행동 수준은 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 한국과 중국 여성소비자의 녹색소비행동에 미치는 영향요인은 한국 여성소비자의 경우 녹색소비교육 참여의향이 높을수록 소비측면의 녹색행동을 더 잘하는 것으로 나타났고, 중국 여성소비자의 경우 녹색소비교육 참여의향이 높을수록 사용측면의 녹색행동을 더 잘하는 것으로 나타났다. It is often assumed that individuals who are knowledgeable and concerned about the environment will engage in green consumption behavior. Environmental problems in Korea and China are intensifying and it is vital to evaluate the environmental knowledge, attitudes and behaviors. The purpose of this research was to compare green consumption behavior and related factors between Korean and Chinese women. Based on a survey with 292 women (200 Koreans and 92 Chinese), differences and similarities in green consumption behaviors and related factors were identified. First, Korean women possessed high levels of environmental knowledge and positive environment attitude than Chinese women. However, Chinese women showed more green consumption behavior than Korean Women. Second, Korean women those who has lower environmental knowledge were better in green consumption behavior than those who has higher environmental knowledge. Despite the environmental knowledge level, there was no statistically significant difference in Chinese women's green consumption behavior. Also there was no statistically significant different in Korean and Chinese women's green consumption behavior according to environment attitude. Korean women those who possessed high levels of environmental knowledge and positive environment attitude than Chinese women showed less green consumption behavior than that of Chinese Women. Finally, Korean women those who likes to participate in green consumption education have impact on green consumption behavior. By contrast, there was no factor which impact on Chinese women's green consumption behavior.
