The Predictability of Receptive Vocabulary Size : to Assess College Students’ TOEIC?? Readiness
Younghee Cheri Lee 한국영어학학회 2021 영어학연구 Vol.27 No.1
This article examines whether receptive vocabulary size can forecast college students’ TOEIC?? readiness using the New General Service List Test (NGSLT). A growing body of empirical research has evidenced that L2 vocabulary knowledge is one of the most vital factors in language learning and academic success in the EFL context. Of convincing arguments on the predictability of L2 learners’ vocabulary size, it has been claimed that L2 learners’ vocabulary size is strongly correlated with receptive skills of language like reading and listening. Even though Korea is one of the biggest consumers of the TOEIC?? assessment arranged by the ETS, however, TOEIC?? readiness has rarely been problematized in practical aspects assisting college students’ career goal-oriented language learning needs, thereby failing to help students aware of their TOEIC?? readiness in advance without any financial burdens imposed on themselves. This study thus sought to investigate the correlated linear relationship between the NGSLT Vocabulary Size Scores and the official TOEIC?? Test Scores produced by over four hundred two-year college students majoring in airline services. Overall, it was attested that the New General Service List Test (NGSLT) had a high predictive power of the TOEIC?? readiness for those collegiates seeking a position as a flight attendant in the airline industry. This study concludes that what starts as building L2 vocabulary size can quickly escalate into the TOEIC?? skills’ growth, entailing the enhancement of L2 English proficiency both in reading and listening. Some pedagogical implications will also be addressed pertaining to how L2 learners can self-promote autonomous learning.
A Study on the Alleviation of Fiscal Disparity in the Seoul Metropolitan Area
Lee, Younghee 한국지방행정연구원 2002 地方行政硏究 Vol.16 No.1
Fiscal disparity problems are common in metropolitan areas all over the world. The Seoul metropolitan city, as other big cities, shares the same problem. However, a local autonomy system in Korea, which had been reinstated from March 1991, contributes to the fiscal gap among local governments. The Seoul metropolitan area consists of 25 basic units of local governments which are called districts. Each district has autonomy with which they can exercise legislative, administrative, and organizational power including independent financial power. After 10 years of practicing the local autonomy system, the fiscal disparity problem has risen to the surface in the city of Seoul. To alleviate the problem of fiscal disparity the city of Seoul has proposed an exchange of tax base between the Seoul metropolitan government and the district. The proposed tax base of the city is a tobacco consumption tax and an aggregate land tax of the district. The share of the aggregate land tax revenue varies among 25 districts, whereas the variation of the tobacco consumption tax revenue is relatively small. However, those districts which have high land prices have been opposed to the idea of exchange the tax base. Therefore, this paper investigates the problem of fiscal disparity in the Seoul metropolitan area and proposes a solution by introducing the aggregate land tax base shared between the Seoul metropolitan government and the district in lieu of exchanging the tax base.
A Study on Psychological Change of Depressed Children in a Psychotherapy Program with Loess
Lee Younghee,Lee Sangdo 국제온돌학회 2016 International Journal of Ondol Vol.9 No.2
The purpose of this study is to develop a psychotherapy program using loess that can help to reduce depression and daily life stress and to improve self - esteem. When depression begins in childhood, it is confirmed that the recurrence rate is very high in adulthood. There was no significant change in depression as a physical symptom with the use of loess, but it was significantly decreased in negative depression symptom that derogatory oneself, and significant decrease in loss of interest, behavioral problems, and depressed emotions. This suggests that psychological and social intervention for children with depression can be effectively promoted and depression can be reduced by suggesting appropriate psychotherapeutic interventions for children to cope with depression.
A Buddhist Reconquest of Korea?: Namho Yŏnggi and “Changan kŏlsikka”
Younghee Lee 서강대학교 종교연구소 2012 Journal of Korean Religions Vol.3 No.1
The Late Chosŏn period saw significant social changes, one of which was increasing urbanization. The capital Hansŏng, in particular, grew in both the size and diversity of its population. It is often said that Buddhism in the Chosŏn period catered to the lower classes and withdrew from the cities to the mountains. Though this is true to a degree, Buddhism continued to serve the urban city population, including the women’s quarters of the royal palaces as well as men of different social status groups. This article argues that well-connected priests like Namho Yŏnggi (1820–1872), who maintained relations with elite yangban and educated commoners, primarily addressed literate urban dwellers. Namho Yŏnggi was the author of two Buddhist songs in the kasa form, and one of these, “Changan kŏlsikka” (Song of Begging in the Capital), may be seen as a Buddhist counter-attack against the dominance of Confucianism, and even as an appeal to the educated for a symbolic reconquest of the centre of the nation.
ECgene: an alternative splicing database update
Lee, Yeunsook,Lee, Younghee,Kim, Bumjin,Shin, Youngah,Nam, Seungyoon,Kim, Pora,Kim, Namshin,Chung, Won-Hyong,Kim, Jaesang,Lee, Sanghyuk Oxford University Press 2007 Nucleic acids research Vol.35 No.suppl1
<P>ECgene () was developed to provide functional annotation for alternatively spliced genes. The applications encompass the genome-based transcript modeling for alternative splicing (AS), domain analysis with Gene Ontology (GO) annotation and expression analysis based on the EST and SAGE data. We have expanded the ECgene's AS modeling and EST clustering to nine organisms for which sufficient EST data are available in the GenBank. As for the human genome, we have also introduced several new applications to analyze differential expression. ECprofiler is an ontology-based candidate gene search system that allows users to select an arbitrary combination of gene expression pattern and GO functional categories. DEGEST is a database of differentially expressed genes and isoforms based on the EST information. Importantly, gene expression is analyzed at three distinctive levels—gene, isoform and exon levels. The user interfaces for functional and expression analyses have been substantially improved. ASviewer is a dedicated java application that visualizes the transcript structure and functional features of alternatively spliced variants. The SAGE part of the expression module provides many additional features including SNP, differential expression and alternative tag positions.</P>
Application of Distance Education for Mathematics of Junior High School
Lee, Younghee 한국수학교육학회 2002 수학교육연구 Vol.6 No.2
Recently a new type of educational method through the internet, distance education, has been developed with technology development. To find out any complement between distance education and traditional in-class education, a series of study with junior high school mathematics were conducted. Both distance education and in-class education have merits and shortcomings. Some advantages with distance education shown from the study can be used for complement to in-class education depending on the contents and subjects. Distance education in mathematics education can be a good turning point for future education.

The objective of this study is to examine the precedents influencing the intended use for u-store service. The analysis is conducted by an empirical method y field survey. The analysis results show that the ease of use, perceived usefulness, and perceived risk influence the use intention. The results also show that contextual access influences the perceived usefulness and perceived risk severity. This study verifies the importance of the information related to contextual access, as well as the necessity to prepare countermeasures for security on privacy risk, which users already perceive.
