The lack of consideration for statistical properties in Taguchi's threelevel linear graphs is rectified. We propose a new set of linear graphs for the threelevel orthogonal arrays according to the maximum resolution criterion. In the presence of twofactor interactions however, the serious bias of all the estimated effects as well as the estimated variance shows that these designs should not be employed. The various alternative designs are discussed.

The Front Cover image illustrates the unique battery architecture comprising a skeleton frame surrounding an empty space, that is, a hollow‐spiral anode with a multi‐helical structure. This design enables the battery to reliably power an LED screen or an MP3 player even under severe mechanical twisting and bending. </P>

The technological effects of Makgeolli lees fiber (0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, and 4.0%) on chicken salt-soluble breast meat proteins in a model system on proximate composition, physicochemical properties, and textural properties were investigated. Makgeolli lees fiber was obtained from Makgeolli brew processing, and the by-products showed good dietary fiber. The moisture and ash contents, water holding capacity, redness, yellowness, hardness, and apparent viscosity of chicken salt-soluble meat protein heat-induced gel systems with Makgeolli lees fiber were all higher than the control without Makgeolli lees fiber. However, protein solubility and electrophoretic patterns did not differ among the control and treatments with Makgeolli lees fiber samples. The chicken salt-soluble protein heat-induced gel systems incorporating Makgeolli lees fiber had improved water holding capacity, textural properties, and viscosity due to Makgeolli lees fiber addition. These results suggest that the addition of 4.0% Makgeolli lees fiber to gel is helpful to improve the physical properties of heat-induced gels.

Mechanism of the Voltage Occurrence in BSCCO Superconductor for Neutron Irradiation

Magnetic characteristics observed in BiSrCaCuO superconductor were studied. In the measurement of differential conductance, it was cleared that the mechanism of magnetic memory effect couldn't be explained by using conventional flux flow model. By changing the density of external magnetic flux, changes in inductance of a coil in which a superconducting bar inserted were also measured. The results showed that the filament model was valid to explain the mechanism of the occurrence of a voltage in superconducting sample. It was concluded that the electromagnetic characteristics arose from the interaction between the trapped magnetic flux and weak link of the filament formed in the superconducting bulk.
Electromagnetic Properties of Bi System Superconductor for Neutron Irradiation

Effects of doping on the electromagnetic properties in the BiSrCaCuO superconductors. The electromagnetic properties of doped and undoped BiSrCaCuO superconductor were evaluated to investigate the contribution of the pinning centers to the magnetic effect. It was confirmed experimentally that a large amount of magnetic flux was trapped in the doped sample than that in the undoped one, indicating that the pinning centers of magnetic flux are related closely to the occurrence of the magnetic effect. It is considered that the area where normal conduction takes place increases by adding and the magnetic flux penetrating through the sample increases. The results suggested that Ag acts to increase pinning centers of magnetic flux, contributing to the occurrence of the electromagnetic properties.
Surface Encoder Based on the Half-shaded Square Patterns (HSSP)

A surface encoder based on the Half-shaded square pattern (HSSP) is presented. The HSSP working as reference grid is composed of the straight lines which are easy to be fabricated and make measuring time short. Since the periodic cell is separated in ON/OFF by the 45° straight line, the duration from the starting point of scanning to the first rising edge and the duty cycle of the pulse train vary with respect to the position of the starting point. And the relationship between X and Y position and the duration, and duty cycle is described in the simple linear equation. Therefore, it is possible to measure X and Y position with the measured duration and duty cycle without calculating load. Through the test set-up, the feasibility of the proposed surface encoder was verified. Also the future works for improvement of performance were suggested.
Effects of Early Operation in Patients Who Diagnosed Complicated Parapneumonic Effusion

Purpose Thoracic empyema is defined as active suppuration within the pleural space and its treatment is controversial. Recently treatment of empyema is changing observation of empyema formation to early invasive treatment with the operation. This study compared the outcomes of early surgery and delayed surgery Method We retrospectively reviewed 40 patients who underwent surgery for complicated parapneumonic effusion from January of 2013 to May of 2020. The early group was defined as operation with empyema diagnosed within 1 week. Results Among 40 patients, 22 patients received early surgery, and 18 patients received delayed surgery. Stage III empyema was prevalent in the delayed group (27.3% vs 76.9%, p=0.004). Operative time was longer in the delayed group (87.5 vs 132.5 min, p=0.004). Intraoperative blood loss was more in the delayed group (200ml vs 750ml, p=0.009). The hospital stay was longer in the delayed group (18.5 days vs 30.0 days, p<0.001). The complication rate was not different between groups (31.8% vs 33.3%, p=0.919). The mortality rate was no significance between the two groups (4.5% vs 5.6%, p=0.884). Conclusion Delayed surgical treatment make operation difficult. Although inactive infected phase, early surgical treatment did not increase postoperative morbidity and mortality.
