Purpose: The objective of this study was to elucidate the role of collagen membranes (CMs) when used in conjunction with bovine hydroxyapatite particles incorporated with collagen matrix (BHC) for lateral onlay grafts in dogs. Methods: The first, second, and third premolars in the right maxilla of mongrel dogs (n=5) were extracted. After 2 months of healing, two BHC blocks ($4mm{\times}4mm{\times}5mm$) were placed on the buccal ridge, one with and one without the coverage by a CM. The animals were sacrificed after 8 weeks for histometric analysis. Results: The collagen network of the membranes remained and served as a barrier. The quantity and quality of bone regeneration were all significantly greater in the membrane group than in the no-membrane group (P<0.05). Conclusions: The use of barrier membranes in lateral onlay grafts leads to superior new bone formation and bone quality compared with bone graft alone.

Bony exostosis, one of the osseous deformities, could act as a contributing factor of periodontal disease since it makes proper tooth brushing difficult and causes traumatic ulcer. The purpose of this case report is to show improvement of periodontal health by removal of bony exostoses and creation of physiologic osseous form. A 58 year old female patient with recurrent ulcer and pain on bony exostoses located on left maxillary palatal area and both mandibular buccal areas was treated. Exostoses were removed and physiologically positive osseous form was created following vertical grooving, radicular blending, flattening interproximal bone and gradualizing marginal bone. The patient showed no further recurring traumatic ulcer and bone exposure. Moreover, periodontal pocket was eliminated and food impaction was decreased. In conclusion, periodontal health could be achieved through removal of multiple bony exostoses and development of ideal osseous form.

<P><I>Zanthoxylum ailanthoides</I> (ZA) has been used as folk medicines in East Asian and recently reported to have several bioactivity; however, the studies of ZA on the regulation of triacylglycerol (TG) biosynthesis have not been elucidated yet. In this study, we examined whether the methanol extract of ZA (ZA-M) could reduce oleic acid- (OA-) induced intracellular lipid accumulation and confirmed its mode of action in HepG2 cells. ZA-M was shown to promote the phosphorylation of AMPK and its upstream LKB1, followed by reduction of lipogenic gene expressions. As a result, treatment of ZA-M blocked de novo TG biosynthesis and subsequently mitigated intracellular neutral lipid accumulation in HepG2 cells. ZA-M also inhibited OA-induced production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and TNF-<I>α</I>, suggesting that ZA-M possess the anti-inflammatory feature in fatty acid over accumulated condition. Taken together, these results suggest that ZA-M attenuates OA-induced lipid accumulation and inflammation through the activation of LKB1/AMPK signaling pathway in HepG2 cells.</P>

본 증례에서는 드문 전이성 병변인 범발성 평활근종증과 혈관성 평활근종증이 동시에 발현된 환자에게 다학제 협진을 통한 접근으로 한 단계로 완전한 수술적 절제를 시행하고 재발 없이 치료를 받은 환자의 증례를 보고하였으며 이러한동일한 근육에서 유래된 두 전이성 병변의 연관성에 대하여는 아직 밝혀진 바가 없으므로 이에 대한 연관성에 대한 연구가 필요할 것으로 생각되어 간단한 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다. Leiomyomatosis refers to benign smooth muscle cell tumors that often arise from unusual growth patterns and include benign metastasizing leiomyoma, disseminated peritoneal leiomyomatosis, and intravenous leiomyomatosis. Intravenous leiomyomatosis is the extension of a vascular tumor into the venous channels, whereas disseminated peritoneal leiomyomatosis is characterized by multiple leiomyomas growing along the submesothelial tissues of the abdominopelvic peritoneum. It is extremely rare for intravenous leiomyomatosis and disseminated peritoneal leiomyomatosis to occur simultaneously. A 42-year-old female presented with disseminated peritoneal leiomyomatosis and intravenous leiomyomatosis extended through the inferior vena cava into the right side of the heart. The patient underwent one-stage surgery under simultaneous sternotomy and laparotomy, and radical excision of the tumor was achieved using cardiopulmonary bypass. Here we describe a case in which complete removal of a leiomyomatosis with an unusual growth pattern was successfully performed using one-stage surgery. (Korean J Med 2016;91:185-190)

<P>Here, we investigated the translocation of biomolecules, such as DNA and protein, through a sequentially polymerized polyurea nanopore, with a thin (<10 nm) polymer membrane of uniform thickness. The polyurea membrane was synthesized by molecular layer deposition using <I>p</I>-phenylenediisocyanate (PDI) and <I>p</I>-phenylenediamine (PDA) as sequential precursors. The membrane exhibited a hydrophobic surface with a highly negative surface charge density (−51 mC m<SUP>−2</SUP> at pH 8). It was particularly noted that the high surface charge density of the membrane resulted in a highly developed electro-osmotic flow which, in turn, strongly influenced the capture probability of biomolecules, depending on the balance between the electro-osmotic and electrophoretic forces. For instance, the capture frequency of negatively charged DNA was demonstrated to be quite low, since these two forces more or less cancelled each other, whereas that of positively charged MDM2 was much higher, since these two forces were additive. We also identified that the mean translocation time of MDM2 through the polyurea nanopore was 26.1 ± 3.7 μs while that of the SiN nanopore was 14.2 ± 2.0 μs, hence suggesting that the enhanced electrostatic interaction between positively charged MDM2 and the negatively charged pore surface affects the translocation speed.</P>
Imidacloprid 피복 요소 혼합제제의 특성 및 시용효과

벼 재배시 시비 및 농약살포의 성력화를 위하여 완효성요소에 살충제 imidacloprid를 피복하여 제조한 농약비료혼합제의 특성 및 시용효과를 검토 한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 농약비료혼합제중 전질소와 농약주성분의 수중용출률은 접착제의 함량이 많을수록 용출이 지연되었으나, 농약주성분은 24시간내에 모든 시제품에서 95% 이상 용출되었으며, 시제품별 전질소 용출은 처리후 40일까지는 차이가 있었으나 40일이후부터는 뚜렷한 차이가 없었다. 2. 토양중 NH₄-N함량은 처리후 10일까지는 농약+요소구에서, 10일후에는 농약비료혼합제와 피복요소구에서 각각 높았는데, 이중 피복요소구의 NH₄-N 함량이 약간 높은 경향이었다. 3. 벼 유수형성기와 출수기의 식물체중 질소량 및 질소흡수량은 피복요소구에서 가장 높았다. 4. 시험된 토양중의 탈질균 및 질산환원균 밀도는 농약+요소구보다 농약비료혼합제구와 피복요소구에서 낮았다. 5. 토양중 imidacloprid의 잔류량은 농약처리구에서 농약비료혼합제구와 농약+요소구보다 약간 높았으며, 처리별 벼멸구의 밀도 및 방제효과는 처리구간에 뚜렷한 차이가 없었다. This study was conducted to develop labor-saving pesticide-fertilizer mixed formulation through a single application of mixed formulation of an insecticide imidacloprid coated on a slow release urea. The release of both total nitrogen and imidacloprid into water was delayed with increasing adhesive. Imidacloprid was released out 95% within 24 hours, whereas total nitrogen released in mixed formulation until 40 days was released less extent by increasing adhesive. There was no difference between pesticide-fertilizer mixed formulation and coated urea thereafter. The content of NH₄-N in the soil treated with pesticide and urea seperating was higher until 10 days but gradually decreased compare to that of pesticide-fertilizer mixed formulation or coated urea. The population density of nitrate reducing bacteria and denitrifying bacteria in soil after treatment were lower in the pesticide-fertilizer mixed formulation and coated urea than those of pesticide and urea separate treatment. The residue of imidacloprid in soil was slightly higher in the treatment of pesticide alone than the pesticide-fertilizer mixed formulation and pesticide and urea seperating treatment. The population and control efficacy of small brown planthopper, Laodelphax striatellus, were not significance different among treatments.
Potential Anti-inflammatory Effects of the Fruits of <i>Paulownia tomentosa</i>

<P>As part of an ongoing search for new natural products from medicinal plants to treat respiratory disease, six new compounds, a dihydroflavonol (1) and five C-geranylated flavanones (3, 6, 8, 13, and 14), and 13 known compounds were isolated from mature fruits of Paulownia tomentosa. The structures of the new compounds were determined via interpretation of their spectroscopic data (1D and 2D NMR, UV, IR, ECD, and MS). In biological activity assays with human alveolar basal epithelial cells, the expression of TNF-alpha-induced proinflammatory cytokines (IL-8 and IL-6) was reduced significantly by the EtOAc fraction of a P. tomentosa extract as well as by the new compounds isolated from this fraction. Furthermore, the majority of the isolates (1-19 except 5-7) were found to inhibit human neutrophil elastase (HNE) activity, with IC50 values ranging from 2.4 +/- 1.0 to 74.7 +/- 8.5 mu M. In kinetic enzymatic assays with the HNE substrate MeOSuc-AAPV-pNA, compound 17 exhibited the highest inhibitory activity (K-i = 3.2 mu M) via noncompetitive inhibition. These findings suggest that the flavanone constituents of P. tomentosa fruits may be valuable for the development of new drug candidates to treat airway inflammation.</P>
