In this study, Mechanical property, thermal property, watervapor, and oxygen permeability of biodegradable Soy protein/Pectin-montmorillonite nanocomposite, prepared with Na^(+)-MMT, have been studied. X-ray diffraction and TEM experiments an polymer/silicate composite samples demonstrated that the intercalation of polymer chains leads to increase in the spacing between silicate layers. In addition, it were found that the intercalated Soy protein/Pectin/montmorillonite nanocomposite were prepared. It was found that the addition of only a small of clay was enough to improve the thermal stability and mechanical property of Soy protein/Pectin/montmorillonite nanocomposite. watervapor of Soy protein/Pectin/montmorillonite nanocomposite was generally lower than that of Soy protein/Pectin. oxygen permeability of Soy protein/Pectin/montmorillonite nanocomposite was generally lower than that of Soy protein/Pectin.
Drone for building fire suppression

introduction: Most of the developed cities are now highly populated with increased high-rise buildings. In general, high-rise structures are not preferred due to user perception of insecurity in case of fire and high cost of the building. Recently, there were fire accident occurred in an eight-story building that resulted in numerous causalities and property damage. Globally, there is a constant increase in fire accident in high-rise building. Based on the National Security Agency, the total number of fires in the apartment was 5,798. In that, the high-rise building fire accounted about 60.4% of all building fires. However, not much effort taken to reduce the rate of fire accidents especially in high-rise building. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to conduct a basic research on how to reduce a fire at an early stage by placing a fire extinguisher in the drones. It also aims at increasing the speed of fire fighters responses to reduce causalities and property damage. Method: First, this study adopted a method of launching a hand grenade type throwing fire extinguisher into a drone. We selected DJI Inspire 1 model with wide range of manoeuvrability, less affected by wind, and can withstand weight of the hand grenade type fire extinguisher (1.2 kg) also. In addition, we surveyed drone specialists and fire-fighters to determine the appropriate number of fire extinguishers and their location. Conclusion/Discussion: The survey concludes that a total of four hand grenade type throwing fire extinguisher could be installed in a drone and also the drone can throw the fire extinguisher at an angle of 100 degrees downward. However, the drones can fly about 15 minutes only. This survey also suggest that the fire drone would help to reduce fires in high-rise building and also it can reach fire sites six times faster than golden time. It is expected that about 2,000 ~ 3,000 drones to be placed in fire sites annually, particularly in high-rise building to reduce losses of both life and property
The Benefits of Bisoprolol were Comparable with Carvedilol in Secondary Prevention of Acute MI

Objective: Although the benefits of carvedilol, non-cardioselective Β-blocker, were demonstrated by several studies, there were no studies which evaluated the efficacy of bisoprolol, a class of Β1-selective beta blocker, in secondary prevention of acute myocardial infarction(MI) patients who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Methods: Total 13,813 patients who underwent PCI were treated with carvedilol or bisoprolol at discharge in Korean Acute MI Registry (KAMIR). After 1: 2 propensity matching, 1,806 patients were enrolled as bisoprolol group and 3,612 patients as carvedilol group. The primary end point was composite of major adverse cardiac events (MACEs)which were defined as cardiac death, non-fatal MI, target vessel revascularization, and coronary artery bypass surgery. The secondary end point was defined as respective all-cause mortality, cardiac death, non-fatal MI, any revascularization or target vessel revascularization. Results: After adjustment of baseline characteristics by propensity matching, the MACEs free survival rate was not different between bisoprolol and carvedilol group. The subgroup analysis showed that cumulative incidence of MACEs was lower in bisoprolol group in patients having Killip class III or IV comparing with carvedilol group. The incidence of secondary end points was not different between two groups. Conclusions: The benefits of bisoprolol were comparable with carvedilol in secondary prevention of acute MI. The use of bisoprolol may be preferable in hemodynamically unstable acute MI patients on admission.

Insects have a great potential to be used as feedstocks for biodiesel production due to their intrinsic high lipid contents. In particular, biodiesel production from black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) is promising because of its advantages in engineering aspects such as a rapid proliferation, more lipid storage due to long-development time in larva stage, self-separation from organic waste. In this study, biodiesel was synthesized through (trans)esterification of BSFL grown on food waste to achieve both biofuel production from organic waste materials. In addition, all fuel properties of the biodiesel were examined to evaluate its feasibility as a potential transportation fuel in Korea. The highest yield of biodiesel obtained in this study was 86.51%. All the parameters of biodiesel produced from BSFL satisfied the Korea fuel standard (KS M 2965) except oxidation stability. The quality criterion of oxidation stability met the fuel standard with an addition of small quantity of tert-butylhydroquinone.
Ginsenoside 20(S)-protopanaxadiol induces cell death in human endometrial cancer cells via apoptosis

Background: 20(S)-protopanaxadiol (20(S)-PPD), one of the aglycone derivatives of major ginsenosides, has been shown to have an anticancer activity toward a variety of cancers. This study was initiated with an attempt to evaluate its anti-cancer activity toward human endometrial cancer by cell and xenograft mouse models. Methods: Human endometrial cancer (HEC)-1A cells were incubated with different 20(S)-PPD concentrations. 20(S)-PPD cytotoxicity was evaluated using MTT assay. Apoptosis was detected using the annexin V binding assay and cell cycle analysis. Cleaved poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) and activated caspase-9 were assessed using western blotting. HEC-1A cell tumor xenografts in athymic mice were generated by inoculating HEC-1A cells into the flank of BALB/c female mice and explored to validate 20(S)-PPD anti-endometrial cancer toxicity. Results: 20(S)-PPD inhibited HEC-1A cell proliferation in a dose-dependent manner with an IC50 value of 3.5 μM at 24 h. HEC-1A cells morphologically changed after 20(S)-PPD treatment, bearing resemblance to Taxol-treated cells. Annexin V-positive cell percentages were 0%, 10.8%, and 58.1% in HEC-1A cells when treated with 0, 2.5, and 5 μM of 20(S)-PPD, respectively, for 24 h. 20(S)-PPD subcutaneously injected into the HEC-1A cell xenograft-bearing mice three times a week for 17 days manifested tumor growth inhibition by as much as 18% at a dose of 80 mg/kg, which sharply contrasted to controls that showed an approximately 2.4-fold tumor volume increase. These events paralleled caspase-9 activation and PARP cleavage. Conclusion: 20(S)-PPD inhibits endometrial cancer cell proliferation by inducing cell death via a caspase-mediated apoptosis pathway. Therefore, the 20(S)-PPD-like ginsenosides are endowed with ample structural information that could be utilized to develop other ginsenoside-based anticancer agents.

지난 2월10일부터 5일간 체코의 필젠에서 열린 제5회 컴퓨터 그래픽스와 가시화에 관한 국제학회에서 필자는 3편의 논문을 발표했다. 세계 최고의 맥주 '필스너'의 본고장인 필젠에서 열린 이번 회의에는 20개국에서 발표자만 1백여명이 참석했는데 장사속 저질논문이 발표되어 질타를 받기도 했다.

<P>In recent decades, solution-processable, printable oxide thin-film transistors have garnered a tremendous amount of attention given their potential for use in low-cost, large-area electronics. However, printable metallic source/drain electrodes undergo undesirable electrical/thermal migration at an interfacial stack of the oxide semiconductor and metal electrode. In this study, we report oleic acid-capped Ag nanoparticles that effectively suppress the significant Ag migration and facilitate high field-effect mobilities in oxide transistors. The origin of the role of surface-capped Ag nanoparticles is clarified with comparative studies based on X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and X-ray absorption spectroscopy.</P>
