      • 하수에서 분리한 합성세제 분해균의 특성

        대구시와 경산시의 하수에서 음이온계 합성세제인 sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS)와 sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate(SDBS)를 유일한 탄소원으로 이용하는 균주 289종을 분리하고 이중 합성세제 분해력이 강한, 그람음성 간균으로 운동성인 8균주를 선정하여 그 선정균들의 특성을 조사하였다. 선정균은 40℃ 이상에서는 생육하지 못하였으며 생육 최적 pH는 균주간에 다소 차이가 있었으며 pH 4.0 이하에서는 선정균 모두 생육치 못하였다. 질소원으로는 SDS분해균의 생육에는 potassium nitrate가, SDBS 분해균의 생육에는 soytone이 좋았다. SDS 분해균인 DS-3, 6, 8, 24 및 SDBS 분해균인 BS-7, 8은 세제농도가 5.0% 이상에서도 생육이 가능하였다. 선정균들은 tetracycline에 감수성이 강한 것으로 나타났지만 penicillin에는 강한 내성을 띠는 것으로 나타났고, ??와 ??금속이온은 모든 선정균들의 생육을 억제하는 것으로 나타났다. On purpose to isolate the organisms, which would utilize detergents(sodium dodecyl sulfate, SDS and sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate, SDBS) as a sole carbon source, from the waste water of Kyungsan and Taegu city 289 strains were isolated. Among them 8 strains, which are gram negative rods with motility and produce strong enzyme to biodegrade the synthetic detergents, were selected. The characteristics of them were investigated as follows, 8 strains were failed to grow above the temperature of 40℃ and below the pH 4.0 even though they have variable optimum pH. Potassium nitrate was very effective for the growth of SDS-biodegradable strains and soytone was effective for the growth of SDBS-biodegradable strains as a sole nitrogen source. Among 8 strains especially DS-3, DS-6, DS-8 and DS-24(SDS-biodegradation strains) and BS-7 and BS-8(SDBS-biodegradation strains) could grow above 5.0% of detergent concentration. All of 8 strains were very sensitive to tetracycline but resistant to penicillin. Selected 8 strains were inhibited by metal ions of ??(0.156mg/㎖) and ??(0.156mg/㎖).

      • 남자 대학생에서 걷기와 달리기 운동 시 체지방과 골격근량에 대한 비교

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the difference in body fat mass and skeletal muscle mass during walking and running after resistance training based on healthy college student. One male college student (age = 25 years, Height = 175.0 cm, Weight = 86.9 kg, Body fat = 27%) volunteered to participate in the study. Body composition was assessed by bioelectrical impedance (Inbody 270, Korea). Walking exercise (4.8 km/hr, 60 min) was performed for 3 weeks, followed by running exercise (7.0 km/hr, 26 min) for 3 weeks. The experimental results are as follows. Running was more effective at dropping body weight and BMI than walking, however walking was more effective at reducing body fat (%) and increasing skeletal muscle mass (kg) than running in male college student. In conclusion, both walking and running provide benefits for body composition, and the best exercise for weight and body fat loss is the one that it actually do on a regular basis.

        Treacher Collins 증후군 환아의 증례보고

        Treacher Collins 증후군(TCS)은 25,000명에서 50,000명당 1명의 빈도로 비교적 드물게 발생하는 난치성 질환이다. 이 질환은 정상적인 부모에게서 돌연변이로 발생하거나 상염색체 우성으로 유전된다고 알려져 있다. 하악과 상악, 협골의 발육 부전, 부정교합, 양측성 이개 기형, 안검렬의 반몽고증 사면(antimongoloid slant)이 특징적이며, 종종 구순열, 구개열, 외이도 폐쇄, 중이와 내이의 기형에 의한 청각소실, 왜소증, 심장과 골격의 이상 등을 동반한다. 또한, 인두의 형성부전, 소구, 거설증, 악골의 기형에 기인하여 수면 중 무호흡증, 만성 폐쇄성 무호흡증 등의 호흡 장애가 있을 수 있으며, 전신마취 유도 시에 기관내 삽관이 어렵다고 보고된 바 있다. 치과의사는 관련 신드롬에 대한 충분한 이해를 통해 환자에게 보다 안전하게 치료를 제공해야 하며 구강 건강 관리 및 선천성 안면 기형에 대한 문제 해결을 돕기 위해 적절한 치료 및 안면 수술에 관련된 가이드를 제시해야 한다. 본 증례는 전반적인 치아우식을 주소로 연세대학교 치과병원 소아치과에 내원하여 외래에서 치아우식 치료를 받은 TCS 환아에 대한 것으로, 문헌 고찰을 통해 얻은 다소의 지견을 함께 보고하는 바이다. Treacher Collins syndrome(TCS) is a rare, incurable condition occurring in approximately 1 of 25,000 to 50,000 births. It may occur as a spontaneous mutation out of genetically normal parents or it may be manifested as an autosomal dominant pattern. TCS is characterized by facial deformities such as, underdevelopment of the maxilla, mandible and zygoma, malocclusion, bilateral deformities of auricles, antimongoloid slant of the palpebral fissures. The syndrome is often associated with cleft lip and palate, ear malformations and hearing loss, short stature, and anomalies of the heart and skeleton. Respiratory difficulty associated with air way obstruction may also be observed, and there is considerable difficulty in airway management during general anesthesia. It is necessary that dentists provide safe dental treatments and guidelines to TCS patients by providing adequate understanding about the characteristics of the syndrome and proper ways of managements. The purpose of this study is to report the dental and medical characteristics of the patient who visited the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Yonsei University for multiple dental caries treatment and to review the literatures of TCS.

        Necrotizing pancreatitis develops in about 10-20% of patients with acute pancreatitis, and pancreatic abscesses develop in 3% of them. The mortality of pancreatic abscess has been reported up to 40% in one study. Recently, there are several reports that show good results with n on-surgical therapy, such as percutaneous drainage and endoscopic drainage, but if the non-surgical drainage fails, surgical therapy are recommended. However, there is no definite therapeutic method which is suggested yet so far after the failure of the surgical drainage. So we report the case in which we experienced successful treatment of pancreatic abscess by endoscopic removal of necrotic tissue through the gastrocystostomy, after the failure of the surgical debridement and internal drainage through gastrocystostomy.

        Electrocatalytic properties of Te incorporated Ni(OH)<sub>2</sub> microcrystals grown on Ni foam

        Developing effective and earth-abundant electrocatalyst for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is critical for the commercialization of a water splitting system. In particular, the overpotential of the OER is relatively higher than the HER, and thus, it is considered that one of the important methods to enhance the performance of the electrocatalyst is to reduce the overpotential of the OER. We report effects of incorporation of metalloid into Ni(OH)2 microcrystal on electrocatalytic activities. In this study, Te incorporated Ni(OH)2 (��Te-Ni(OH)2) were grown on three-dimensional porous NF by a facile solvothermal method with �� = 1, 3 and 5. Homogeneous microplate structure on the NF was clearly observed for the Ni(OH)2/NF and ��Te-Ni(OH)2/NF samples. However, irregular and collapsed nanostructures were found on the surface of nickel foam when Te precursor ratio is (��) over 3. Electrocatalytic OER properties were analysed by Linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) and Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The amount of Te incorporation used in the electrocatalytic reaction was found to play a crucial role in improving catalytic activity. The optimum Te amount (��) introduced into the Ni(OH)2/NF was discussed with respect to their OER performance.

        Development of a diagnostic method for Parkinson's disease by reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with integrated pulsed amperometric detection

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We developed a diagnostic method for Parkinson's disease by simultaneously analyzing biogenic amines and their metabolites using reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with integrated pulsed amperometric detection (RP-HPLC-IPAD) method. Dopamine (DA), 3, 4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid (DOPAC), serotonin (5-HT), 5-hydroxyindolacetic acid (5-HIAA), and homovanillic acid (HVA) were used as biomarkers to diagnose Parkinson's disease. All target components were detected with good sensitivity using sodium hydroxide (as a post-column eluent). The limit of detection (S<B>/</B>N <B>=</B> 3) and limit of quantification (S<B>/</B>N <B>=</B> 10) of the target components ranged from 0.020 to 2.400 ng and from 0.080 to 8.000 ng, respectively. The coefficients of linear regression ranged from 0.9996 to 1.0000, all inter-day and intra-day precision values were <3.43%, and the average recovery and RSD ranged from 97.55 to 103.60% and 0.22 to 4.79% for mice striatum samples. This method exhibited good selectivity, sensitivity, and reproducibility and can be used directly without any pretreatment steps. Our method will be useful as a tool to diagnose Parkinson’s disease.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> We developed a diagnostic method for PD by simultaneously analyzing biogenic amines and their metabolites using RP-HPLC-IPAD method. </LI> <LI> This novel RP-HPLC-IPAD method for detecting biogenic amines and their metabolites is reported here for the first time. </LI> <LI> Dopamine (DA), 3, 4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid (DOPAC), serotonin (5-HT), and homovanillic acid (HVA) were used as biomarkers to diagnose PD. </LI> <LI> The striatum tissues of mice brains were analyzed within 20 minutes with good accuracy, precision, and sensitivity for all biomarkers. </LI> <LI> This method is a novel approach to analyzing biogenic amines and their metabolites, and will be useful as a tool to diagnose PD. </LI> </UL> </P>

        Effects of exogenous emulsifier supplementation on growth performance, energy digestibility, and meat quality in broilers

        This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of exogenous emulsifier supplementation on growth performance, energy digestibility, and meat quality in broilers. A total of 60 Ross 308 broilers were treated for two weeks. The three dietary treatments were: (CON) basal diet; (T1) basal diet + 0.1% exogenous emulsifier, and (T2) basal diet + 0.2% exogenous emulsifier. In Period 1 (0-7 days), broilers in the T2 group showed significantly higher body weight gain (BWG) (p < 0.05) and broilers in the T1 and T2 treatment groups had significantly lower feed conversion ratios (FCR) (p < 0.05). In Period 2 (8-14 days), broilers in the T2 treatment group had significantly higher feed intake (FI) (p < 0.05). Therefore, in this experiment (from days 0 to 19), BWG and FCR were affected (p < 0.05) by the T1 and T2 treatments. Additionally, the T1 and T2 treatments with added exogenous emulsifier in the broiler feed showed significantly higher energy digestibility (p < 0.05) than the CON treatment. Broilers fed the T2 diet had higher water-holding capacity (WHC) (p < 0.05) and cooking loss than the broilers fed the CON and T1 diets. Moreover, the shearing force in the meat was decreased (p < 0.05) in broilers fed the T2 diet. In conclusion, supplementation with exogenous emulsifier to broiler diets improved growth performance, energy digestibility, and meat quality. The optimal amount of exogenous emulsifier supplementation requires further investigation.
