The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate contraction of the human gingival and periodontal ligament fibroblast in the collagen matrix. The cell cultures were prepared using human gingiva and tooth. The collagen gels were observed daily with an inverted microscope and their area was determined by measuring the diameters of the collagen gel. The configurations of human gingival and periodontal ligament fibroblasts were done by SEM observation. The results as follows; 1. The contraction was found to be proportional to seeding cell without seeding cells, the contraction was not occured. 2. Periodontal ligament fibroblast was shown more fast contraction than gingival fibroblast. 3. The collagen matrix was translucent initially, but with fully contraction, the structure become opaque. 4. The collagen matrix with fibroblast were aggregated to form bundles and reorganized collagen fiber.

Early-onset familial Alzheimer's disease (EOFAD) is rare and autosomal-dominantly inherited disease by mutations in one of the following three known causative genes:amyloid precursor protein (APP) gene, presenilin-1 (PS1) and presenilin-2(PS2) genes. EOFAD tends to present clinically at a younger age (40-60 years) and myoclonus is recognized as a prominent and early clinical feature, particularly in chromosome 14-linked pedigrees with mutations in the PS1 gene, when myoclonus may be accompanied by seizures. We present a 44-year old man who developed progressive dementia and accompanied by myoclonus and recurrent seizure. His father and uncle had early-onset dementia at the fifth decade. He was pathologically confirmed as Alzheimer's disease. He had apolipoprotein E (ApoE) epsilon 3 allele and PS-1 mutation was not found.

We experienced a 25 year-old male patient with typhoid fever complicated with massive hemoptysis. Pulmonary complication in typhoid fever is very rare and to our knowledge, there has been no report of hemoptysis as a main cause of death with this disease. We herein report a rare case of typhoid fever.
전기화학적 방법을 이용한 저온형 연료전지용 고분산 Pt 촉매의 제조

Pt was deposited on carbon support by chronoamperometry. The catalytic activity for methanol oxidation was checked by CV (cyclic voltammetry) method. The amount of Pt loading was calculated by integration of I-t curve obtaining the total current used for the Pt deposition. The ECA (electrochemical active surface area) for loaded Pt was calculated from the hydrogen adsorption/desorption peaks in 0.5 M H₂SO₄solution. Pt was deposited on clean carbon electrode surface with various concentration of Pt solution (0.1 mM) was used. As the concentration of Pt increased, the specific catalystic activity of Pt decreased suggesting that, in the electrochemical reaction of Pt ion with electrode surface, Pt particles were smaller and more dispersed in low concentration of Pt solution. With this condition (0.1 mM Pt), Pt was electrodeposited on a commercial carbon support, Vulcan XC-72. Electrochemically loaded Pt catalyst had the higher ECA, and showed higher specific catalytic activity for mathanol oxidation than a commercial Pt/C catalyst.

<P>This paper proposes an analog front-end (AFE) IC using a multiple-frequency driving method (MFDM). The proposed AFE IC achieves a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) by using an external noise spectrum and locating the frequencies of the excitation signals in low-noise regions. In addition, it employs the MFDM to increase the frame rate by simultaneously sending excitation signals having multiple frequencies to the touch screen panel (TSP). The proposed AFE IC extracts the coordinates of the finger as well as the coordinates, pressure, and tilt angle of the active stylus with the force gauge and gyro sensor. The proposed AFE IC and active stylus were fabricated in a 0.13- <TEX>$\mu \text{m}$</TEX> standard CMOS process. The measurement results show that the proposed AFE IC achieves a frame rate of 3.9 kHz, and SNRs of 61.0 and 50.1 dB when a finger and active stylus are used, respectively. In addition, the pressure and tilt angle of the active stylus are expressed with 6-bit resolution. A capacitive touch system with the proposed AFE IC is demonstrated with a 65-in <TEX>$104\times 64$</TEX> TSP using ten fingers and the active stylus with the pressure and tilt angle.</P>
An Early-Maturing, High-quality and High-yielding Rice Variety "Oraebyeo"

"Oraebyeo" is mutation of a high quality japonica cultivar, Ilpumbyeoa new japonica rice(Oriza sativa L.) cultivar developed from by N-methyl-N-nitrosourea(MNU) treatment on fertilized egg cell by the rice breeding team of Gangwon Provincial Agricultural Res. & Ext. Service in 2006. This variety heads 20 days earlier than Ilpumbyeo and similar to that of Odaebyeo an early maturing leading cultivar of northern plain area of Korea. Compared with Odaebyeo has a good semi-erect plant type with lodging tolerance due to much shortened plant hight(l2cm shorter than Odaebyeo). Oraebyeo has similar panicle number with Odaebye where as it has more spikelets per panicle. However, this variety less the ratio of ripened grains and 1,000 grain weight than those of Odaebyeo. The yield performance of this cultivar in milled rice was about 5.09MT/ha in local adaptability test conducted for three years 2002-2004 and 5.51MT/ha in the demonstration plot of farmer's field.
A Highly Noise-Immune Capacitive Touch Sensing System Using an Adaptive Chopper Stabilization Method

<P>This paper proposes a capacitive touch sensing system (CTSS) using an adaptive chopper stabilization (ACS) method to achieve high noise immunity. The proposed ACS method quickly detects and adaptively filters out external noises, thereby achieving high noise immunity in the proposed CTSS. To verify the proposed ACS method, a readout integrated circuit (ROIC) was fabricated using a 0.35-mu m CMOS process technology with 18 V high-voltage devices and was measured using a 46-in capacitive touch sensor (CTS). When no external noises are induced into the CTS, the measured signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the ROIC is 45.8 dB at a reporting rate of 120 Hz. When external noises are induced into the CTS, the measured SNR of the ROIC using the ACS method is 44.5 dB, which is improved by 22.0 dB compared with the SNR achieved without using the ACS method. Therefore, the proposed ACS method effectively eliminates external noises induced into the CTS of the CTSS.</P>

In order to establish a year round indoor-rearing system for Copper butterflies; large copper butterfly, Lycaena dispar, the effect of temperature on larval development and diapause was investigated. Temperature has been suggested as an important factor regulating the developmental rate, length of life, and survival rate from insect. As temperature increased, the developmental period was gradually shorten. The developmental periods of large copper larvae had a range of 11.0 days to 28.5 days at 30℃ and 17.5℃ respectively. The highest emergence rate was 94.2% recorded at 20℃. And the low emergence rate was 72.7% under 17.5℃. We investgated the sensitive stages to diapause induction in the larger copper effect of temperature and photoperiod. The experiment involves transfer of individuals from diapause averting (LD 16:8h, 25℃) to diapause inducing condition (LD 8:16h, 20℃) at various stages. Diapause was induced in 95.2% insect transferred at hatching larvae, in 15.6% of insects transferred at 2nd stadium molt, in 0% of insects transferred at after 3rd stadium molt. Percentage diapause induction increase with the length of short days and low temperature experienced. The main stage sensitive to photoperiod and temperature induction of diapause determination is the early first larval instar. The diapause induction began 14 days and ended 20 days after hatching larvae (LD 8:16h, 20℃).

<P>It has been recently reported that a considerable portion of diabetic patients with renal insufficiency show normoalbuminuria. As little is known about normoalbuminuric renal insufficiency in the Asian population, we examined its prevalence and clinical characteristics in Korean type 2 diabetic patients. We studied 562 patients with type 2 diabetes from Seoul National University Hospital. The estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was calculated by the Modification of Diet in Renal Disease formula and the degree of albuminuria was evaluated by spot urine albumin-creatinine ratio. Of 562 patients, 151 (26.9%) patients had renal insufficiency (eGFR <60 mL/min/1.73m<SUP>2</SUP>). Among them, 44 (29.1%) patients had normoalbuminuria. After excluding the patients using renin-angiotensin system (RAS) inhibitors, the prevalence of normoalbuminuric renal insufficiency was 35.3% (18 of 51 patients). Compared with micro- and macroalbuminuric renal insufficiency, normoalbuminuric renal insufficiency was associated with the female predominance, shorter duration of diabetes, lower prevalence of diabetic retinopathy, and lower prevalence of using antihypertensive drugs except RAS inhibitors. The prevalence decreased progressively with an increase in the duration of diabetes and an increase in the severity of retinopathy. Normoalbuminuric renal insufficiency was prevalent in Korean type 2 diabetic patients. The association with a shorter duration of the diabetes and a lower prevalence of retinopathy suggests that it might be an early stage renal complication.</P>
