Bone fractures are most often seen in racetrack horses because of the high level of intensity in racing. These issues are the main cause of decreased performance in racehorses. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have been explored to improve intra-articular therapy in racehorses. MSCs are essential for the repair and regeneration of damaged tissues. In this study, the effect of intra-articular injection of MSCs in racehorses was investigated. Before accessing the MSC therapy, synovial fluids were obtained from the fracture site of racehorses, and adipose tissue was collected for MSC isolation. Using the MSC specific marker, adipose tissue-derived MSCs were identified. The racehorses received intra-articular injection of autologous MSCs (or allogeneic) (3 × 107 cells/3 mL). After 1 or 2 weeks, synovial fluids were collected from racehorses. To test the effect of MSC injection using ELISA, we analyzed inflammatory factors from the untreated samples compared to MSC-treated samples of racehorses. The level of pro-inflammatory factors (interleukin-1β and prostaglandin E2) was significantly decreased in synovial fluids of MSC-injected racehorses, compared to before accessing the MSC therapy, whereas, the level of anti-inflammatory factor (interleukin-10) was higher than prior to accessing the MSC therapy. Further studies are needed to investigate the anti-inflammatory mechanism of MSC in racehorses.
Excision with Temporary Interphalangeal Joint Pin Fixation for Toe Ganglion Cysts
Gyeong-Gu Bak,Ho Seong Lee,Young-Rak Choi,Tae-Hoon Kim,Sung-Hoo Kim 대한정형외과학회 2023 Clinics in Orthopedic Surgery Vol.15 No.4
Background: Toe ganglion cysts are often symptomatic and recurrent. Communicating lesions between ganglion cysts and the interphalangeal joint (IPJ) or tendon sheath make it difficult to prevent a recurrence. Temporary restriction of the joint and tendon motion can facilitate surgical site healing. This study analyzed the clinical results of temporary pin fixation of the IPJ after toe ganglion cyst excision. Methods: Sixteen patients with symptomatic toe ganglion cysts underwent surgical treatment. Excision alone was initially performed on 10 patients. Six patients underwent temporary pin fixation of the IPJ after ganglion cyst excision. Repeat excision with pin fixation was performed for recurrence in two patients after excision only. Clinical evaluations and postoperative complications were analyzed. Results: Fourteen of 16 toe ganglion cysts were located near the IPJ. Two cysts not adjacent to the joint completely healed after excision alone. Seven of 14 cysts near the joint recurred after initial excision alone and required repeated reoperation. Eight cysts did not recur after excision with pin fixation, including 2 that recurred after excision alone. Conclusions: Temporary IPJ pin fixation after excision for ganglion cysts can be effective for preventing the recurrence of ganglion cysts adjacent to toe IPJ.

Analysis of Wave Propagation of HTS Cables for Compensation of Thermal Loss on Connectors
Yeong Ho Lee,Su Sik Bang,Gu-Young Kwon,Geon Seok Lee,Gyeong Hwan Ji,Song-Ho Sohn,Kijun Park,Yong-June Shin Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers 2017 IEEE transactions on applied superconductivity Vol.27 No.4

High temperature superconducting (HTS) cable operates under relatively low temperature and its unique operating condition brings new challenges in the area of maintenance and diagnostics of the cable. As an example, a temperature difference occurs on connection systems between instruments on room temperature and HTS cables which eventually leads to thermal energy loss. The thermal energy loss affects frequency characteristics of the cable which are critical aspects for simulation and maintenance of the HTS cable systems. In this paper, an attempt to reduce thermal loss is introduced with an improved connector applying a Peltier module. The performance of the designed connector is verified with analysis of electromagnetic wave propagation properties of HTS tapes and a cable. The investigation of S -parameters and the proposed connection method is expected to be further applied to various HTS systems in future.

NAND flash memory has advantages including low power consumption, high performance, and etc. compared to the existing hard drive. But, it also has disadvantages in that data need to be deleted prior to writing. Because of these problems, it remaps physical address and logical address by using a system software called Flash Translation Layer. Hybrid mapping has been widely used, but the needs for page level scheme is increased as the highly demand of high-performance NAND flash memory recently. But, the use of page mapping became unavailable due to the limited size of SRAM of the embedded system and caching algorithms came out as a solution for this. In our study, we deducted the factors which is applicable for caching by analyzing the locality of access patterns. We have estimated the size of map cache which can accommodate the temporal locality by experiments to make a conclusion that lower priorities need to be placed on read and sequential requests when replacement policy is applied. Also, superior spatial locality was found in the narrow range of 128bytes which is expected to contribute to the enhancement of the performance of map cache.
