        Dongkook Park,Donghun Lee,Hojin Lee,Bora Kang,Min K. Chung,Sangkyu Kim,Jungpil Choi 대한인간공학회 2011 대한인간공학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2011 No.5

This study compares ingress/egress motion in recreational vehicle driver's seat in terms of user's height. To comparing motion, first, we developed ingress/egress motion classification criteria. Next, we conducted ingress/egress motion experiment. Forty people were participated in this experiment. These participants were grouped by their height. We recorded ingress egress motion analyze these data by video observation. The results show that there exist ingress/egress motion differences between user groups. These differences were mainly comes from door entrance height. This study is basis for other ingress/egress experiments design.

The Drosophila Basic Helix-Loop-Helix Protein DIMMED Directly Activates PHM, a Gene Encoding a Neuropeptide-Amidating Enzyme

        Park, Dongkook,Shafer, Orie T.,Shepherd, Stacie P.,Suh, Hyunsuk,Trigg, Jennifer S.,Taghert, Paul H. American Society for Microbiology 2008 Molecular and cellular biology Vol.28 No.1

<B>ABSTRACT</B><P>The basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) protein DIMMED (DIMM) supports the differentiation of secretory properties in numerous peptidergic cells of <I>Drosophila melanogaster</I>. DIMM is coexpressed with diverse amidated neuropeptides and with the amidating enzyme peptidylglycine α-hydroxylating monooxygenase (PHM) in approximately 300 cells of the late embryo. Here we confirm that DIMM has transcription factor activity in transfected HEK 293 cells and that the <I>PHM</I> gene is a direct target. The mammalian DIMM orthologue MIST1 also transactivated the <I>PHM</I> gene. DIMM activity was dependent on the basic region of the protein and on the sequences of three E-box sites within <I>PHM</I>'s first intron; the sites make different contributions to the total activity. These data suggest a model whereby the three E boxes interact cooperatively and independently to produce high <I>PHM</I> transcriptional activation. This DIMM-controlled <I>PHM</I> regulatory region displayed similar properties in vivo. Spatially, its expression mirrored that of the DIMM protein, and its activity was largely dependent on <I>dimm</I>. Further, in vivo expression was highly dependent on the sequences of the same three E boxes. This study supports the hypothesis that DIMM is a master regulator of a peptidergic cell fate in <I>Drosophila</I> and provides a detailed transcriptional mechanism of DIMM action on a defined target gene.</P>

      • Dual-polarized GPS antenna array algorithm to adaptively mitigate a large number of interference signals

Park, Kwansik,Lee, Dongkook,Seo, Jiwon Elsevier 2018 Aerospace science and technology Vol.78 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Intentional or unintentional interference experienced by the Global Positioning System (GPS) is a significant concern for GPS-based critical infrastructures and services including aviation. An effective way to mitigate GPS interference is to utilize a GPS antenna array capable of electronically changing its gain pattern. Although a conventional GPS antenna array consists of single-polarized antenna elements, a dual-polarized antenna array has the potential to mitigate approximately twice the number of interference signals in the spatial domain as a single-polarized array because of the additional degrees of freedom provided. This paper proposes an adaptive beamforming algorithm using a dual-polarized GPS antenna array for mitigation of interference signals with various polarizations. In this paper, a dual-polarized antenna element specifically refers to two co-located crossed linearly polarized dipole antennas. The proposed minimum-variance-distortionless-response (MVDR)-based space–time adaptive processing (STAP) method utilizes a novel constraint vector that is specially designed for a dual-polarized GPS array. As the proposed constraint vector considers realistic radiation patterns of the antenna, the performance of the proposed method in terms of the signal-to-interference-plus-noise power ratio (SINR) is noticeably superior to that of previous methods under a representative interference scenario. The performance of the proposed method is compared with three previous methods utilizing dual-polarized antenna arrays.</P>

      • A Method for Creating Dynamic Motions of Digital Human Models in RAMSIS Software

        Donghun Lee,Dongkook Park,Hojin Lee,Bora Kang,Min K. Chung,Gyouhyung Kyung,Kyunghyun Nam,Sangkyu Kim,Jungpil Choi 대한인간공학회 2011 대한인간공학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2011 No.10

A digital human model simulation (DHMS) system is a useful tool to design ergonomic products and evaluate usability of different products. This study developed a systematic method to create dynamic motions of digital human models in RAMSIS(R) software, and applied the method to create ingress and egress motions in a vehicle as a case study. For this, a motion capture system is used to collect the trajectory data of markers attached to a user's body. The manikin, a digital human model in RAMSIS(R), is produced by user's anthropometric data. The trajectory data of joint points of the manikin are used to create dynamic motions of the manikin, that are produced by the actor and the character that are digital human models in another DHMS system (MotionBuilder(R)). As a case study, the participants to which thirty seven markers were attached naturally entered and exited the car mockup in the experiment. Ingress and egress motions of each manikin were created by the systematic method developed.

      • Perceived Discomfort of Design Parameters during Recreational Vehicle Ingress/Egress

        Donghun Lee,Dongkook Park,Hojin Lee,Bora Kang,Min K. Chung,Gyouhyung Kyung,Sangkyu Kim,Jungpil Choi 대한인간공학회 2011 대한인간공학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2011 No.10

Vehicle ingress/egress is an important consideration in designing a car ergonomically. The design parameters influencing vehicle ingress/egress have relevance to the overall car shape and affect user safety. This study investigated perceived discomfort and importance of design parameters during recreational vehicle ingress/egress and found main design parameters affecting ingress/egress. Forty participants got in and out of five different recreational vehicles and assessed subjective ratings of ten design parameters: roof height (ground to roof and seat to roof), seat height (ground to seat), step height (ground to step and floor to step), step width, foot clearance, opening width, A-pillar clearance and B-pillar clearance. For each parameter, mean degree of discomfort of different dimensions was analyzed, and the response rate included in the condition that a degree of discomfort is over four and a degree of importance is more than three scores was identified.

      • A Safety Assessment of a Radioactive Waste Disposal Facility: A Well Scenario

        Mi-Seon Jeong,Dongkook Park,Soo-Gin Kim,Jae-Yeol Cheong 한국방사성폐기물학회 2022 한국방사성폐기물학회 학술논문요약집 Vol.20 No.2

A radioactive waste disposal facility needs to be developed in a way to protect present and future generations and its environment. A safety assessment is implemented for normal and abnormal scenarios and human intrusion scenarios as a part of a safety case in developing a disposal facility for the radioactive waste. The human intrusion scenarios include a well scenario which takes into account various potential exposure groups (PEGs) who use a groundwater well contaminated with radionuclides released from the disposal facility. It is observed that a pumping rate has a negative correlation with the biosphere dose conversion factor (BDCF) in the well scenario. C-14 is shown to be a key radionuclide in the well scenario, and a special model based on the carbon cycle is applied for C-14. For Tc-99, an adsorption coefficient should be adjusted to be suitable for the site. The safety assessment for the radioactive waste disposal facility is successfully carried out for the well scenario. However, it is observed that site-specific models needs to be developed and sitespecific input data need to be collected in order to avoid unnecessary conservatism.

      • Foot Placement Analysis of Vehicle Ingress by User Characteristics

        Hojin Lee,Donghun Lee,Bora Kang,Dongkook Park,Min K. Chung,Sangkyu Kim,Jungpil Choi 대한인간공학회 2011 대한인간공학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2011 No.5

This study investigated the standard foot placement and found tendency among groups according to body size in recreational vehicle ingress. A total of forty people participated in ingress experiment. Subjects were divided into four groups according to their body size and performed ingress experiment of three vehicles (low size recreational vehicle, high size recreational vehicle and recreational vehicle having side-step). Experimenter recorded foot placement of subjects and analyzed video for obtaining foot placement involving center position of the foot and foot angle. And then through foot angle data, histogram was drawn and representative foot angle range which showed high frequency was founded. Experiment found mean value of those data in the representative foot angle range. The mean foot center and angle was identified with representative foot placement of the group. Generally small body size people had closer foot placement from vehicle than large body size people. However specially, high stature group people had far foot placement from vehicle than extreme high stature group. The result of this study can't be generalized to whole vehicle, but the methodology and tendency can be applied to understand ingress motion of full body and make more precise simulation analysis of vehicle ingress

An amphipathic polypeptide derived from poly-γ-glutamic acid for the stabilization of membrane proteins : Amphipathic Polymer for Membrane Proteins

        Han, Seong-Gu,Na, Jung-Hyun,Lee, Won-Kyu,Park, Dongkook,Oh, Jihye,Yoon, Sung-Ho,Lee, Cheng-Kang,Sung, Moon-Hee,Shin, Yeon-Kyun,Yu, Yeon Gyu Wiley (John WileySons) 2014 Protein science Vol.23 No.12

<P>Difficulties in the extraction of membrane proteins from cell membrane and their solubilization in native conformations have hindered their structural and biochemical analysis. To overcome these difficulties, an amphipathic polypeptide was synthesized by the conjugation of octyl and glucosyl groups to the carboxyl groups of poly-관-glutamic acid (PGA). This polymer, called amphipathic PGA (APG), self-assembles as mono-disperse oligomers consisted of 4-5 monomers. APG shows significantly low value of critical micelle concentration and stabilization activity toward membrane proteins. Most of the sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)-solubilized membrane proteins from Escherichia coli remain soluble state in the presence of APG even after the removal of SDS. In addition, APG stabilizes purified 7 transmembrane proteins such as bacteriorhodopsin and human endothelin receptor Type A (ETA ) in their active conformations. Furthermore, ETA in complex with APG is readily inserted into liposomes without disrupting the integrity of liposomes. These properties of APG can be applied to overcome the difficulties in the stabilization and reconstitution of membrane proteins.</P>
