Tolclofosmethyl (TCFM) is heavily and annually applied to the turf soils of most golf courses in Gyeongju to control the fungi known to cause the disease brown patch. The soil samples used for the experiment was collected three weeks after the annual application at the end of May in the year 2002. The preliminary results obtained from this study demonstrated that the repeated field annual applications of TCFM to the turf soils of a golf course located in Gyeongju city in the southern area of Korea showed the enhanced degradation of the parent compound TCFM, especially in the surface (0~15 cm) soil rather than the shallow subsurface (15~30 cm) and deep subsurface (30~45 cm) soils, compared to the corresponding surface (0~15 cm) and shallow and deep subsurface (15~30 cm and 30~45 cm) soils of the untreated plot. It appears that microorganisms in the soil may be involved in the enhanced degradation of TCFM.

In order to study the daily metabolism of sodium chloride and of nitrogen, 24 hour urine samples were collected from 298 normal Korean males whose ages varied Iron 26 to 80 years old. The volume and the concentration of chloride and the total nitrogen were determine, along with the resting pulse and the blood pressure. The daily urine volume was maintained at approximately 1,000ml/m<sup>2</sup> in all age groups while the chloride concentration was at approximately 230 mEq/l. Hence the daily urinary output of sodium chloride was estimated to be approximately 21 gm. On the other hand, the daily urinary output of total nitrogen amounted to approximately 10 gm. Theses findings are similar to those obtained earlier by Yi et al. (1966) in Korean subjects younger than 25 fears old, indicating that average Koreans live on low protein and high salt diets throughout their life. Despite a known correlation between the incidence of hypertension and the high salt intake, none of the these subjects employed in the present investigation showed any sign of hypertension.

The uptake of phenolsulfonphthalein (PSP) and of paraaminohippuric acid (PAH) by cortical slices of the rabbit kidney was investigated while varying the composition of medium. The overall uptake of these substances displayed typical active transport characteristics and was significantly enhanced in presence of acetate. When the phosphate buffer was used the optimal pH was 7.4 for both substances. However, when the tris-buffer was used the optimal pH was 7.4 for PSP and 8.3 for PAH. Removal of Na<sup>+</sup> from the medium resulted in a significant reduction in the uptake. Similar results, though lesser in magnitude, were obtained when either K<sup>+</sup> or Ca<sup>++</sup> was removed from the medium. However, there was no additive effect when K<sup>+</sup> and/or Ca<sup>++</sup> were additionally removed from the Na<sup>+</sup>-free medium. The presence of NH<sub>4</sub><sup>+</sup> greatly reduced while Li<sup>+</sup> and Mg<sup>++</sup> moderately reduced the uptake of both substances. However, choline had no effect. In substrate-leached slices, acetate greatly enhance the uptake of organic acids; but this action was not demonstrable in absence of Na<sup>+</sup>, K<sup>+</sup> or Ca<sup>++</sup>.

This report is a clinical analysis of 162 patients of complicated peptic ulcer who were treated in the department of general surgery of Kang Dong Sacred Heart Hospital during the period from October 1986 to November 1990 and the results were as follows. 1) Among these 162 patients, duodenal ulcer were 137 cases (84.5%) and gastric ulcer were 59 cases (15.5%). The ratio was 5.4:1. 2) Sexual distribution assumed a ratio of 8:1 with 114 male and 18 female. 3) The peak age incidence was in the third decade 4) The monthly distribution was prominent on November (12.3%). Seasonal distribution was high in Autumn. 5) Leukocytosis was present in 59.6%. 6) Subphrenic free air was identified in 74.8% of duodenal ulcer perforation on chest films. 7) The percentage of surgical treatment in the admitted patients whose diagnosis were peptic ulcer was 11%. 8) As for the operative procedures, vagotomy and pyloroplasty was performed in 107 cams (66.0%), subtotal gastrectomy in 29 cases (17.9%), primary closure in 10 cases (6.2 %). vagotomy and antrectomy in 9 cases (5.6%), highly selective vagotamy in 5 cases (3.1%), total gastrectomy in 1 cases (0.6?u), bleeding vessel ligation in 1 cases (0.6%). 9) Diarrhea. was the most common complication, seen in 36cases(29%). Wound infection and pulmonary complication were noted in 7 cases (19.4%) respectively. Others were pyloric stenosis (7 cases), gastric, atony(7 cases), anastomotic site leakage (1 case), intraabdominal abscess. (1 case), and hemorrhage (1 case). 10) The postoperative mortality rate was 0.6 percentage (1 case).
