Background: Epidermal cysts (EC) are the most common tumors found on the skin and accompanying inflammation is also frequent. However, the predictors for inflammatory change have not been investigated yet. Objectives: This study was performed to investigate the difference between inflamed and uninflamed epidermal cysts, and to assess associated factors for inflammatory change. Methods: We analyzed the biopsy-proven 1723 epidermal cysts (515 inflamed and 1208 uninflamed) at two tertiary hospitals from 2011 to 2021. Results: The proportion of inflamed epidermal cysts (IEC) and uninflamed epidermal cyst (UIEC) were 29.9 % and 70.1 %, respectively. Inflammatory change was less frequently observed on the face (25.5 %) than the other sites (32.1 %) (p=0.0046). The anatomic location with the highest rate of inflammatory change was back (40.8 %, p=0.0004). Mean duration of inflammatory change from UIEC to IEC on the face was shorter than the other sites (12.5 months vs 17.9 months, respectively, p= 0.0473). On ultrasonography, long axis of IEC (20.7mm) was generally longer than that of UIEC (15.7mm) (p=0.0218). Moreover, Inflammatory change was more frequent on the EC with punctum compared to those without punctum (35.3 % vs 30.3 %, P=0.0471). Conclusion: Based on the location, size and presence of punctum, decision on the optimal treatment strategies can be established when encountering patients with EC.

신경독성물질인 5, 7-dihydroxytryptamine (5, 7-DHT)이 중추신경계통내 serotonin 신경세포에 미치는 영향과 이에 따른 신경아교세포들의 반응을 형태학적으로 규명하고자 본 연구를 시행하였다. 흰쥐의 가쪽뇌실에 5, 7-DHT(200μg)를 투여한 후면역세포화학적 염색을 시행한 후 광학 및 전자현미경하에서 등쪽솔기핵내 serotonin 신경세포에 초래되는 퇴행성변화와 주위 신경아교세포들의 반응양상 등을 경시적으로 (1, 3, 5, 10 및 20일) 관찰하였던 바 아래와 같은 결과를 얻었다. 흰쥐 등쪽솔기핵내 5, 7-DHT의 세포독성에 반응을 보인 신경아교세포로는 미세아교세포와 별아교세포였으며, 이들 세포 들의 반응양상은 매우 특징적이었으며, 상당한 차이를 보였으며, 전반적으로 미세아교세포가 별아교세포에 비해 빠른 변화소견을 보였다. 즉, 미세아교세포의 경우 실험 3일군 및 5일군에서 이미 그 수의 증가와 함께 활발한 포식작용을 보였던 반면, 별아교세포는 후기 실험군인 10일군 및 20일군에 이르러서야 세포질의 비대 및 수적 증식을 통하여 손상된 신경조직을 보상할 뿐 아니라 밀집된 미세아교세포들을 분산시키는 소견이 관찰되었다. 그러나 희소돌기아교세포는 본 연구의 전 실험군을 통하여 특별한 변화소견이 관찰되지 않았다. 이상의 결과로 부터 5, 7-DHT가 흰쥐 등쪽솔기핵내 신경세포에 강한 세포독성을 유발하며, 이에 따른 주위 신경아교세 포들 특히 미세아교세포와 별아교세포는 시간경과에 따라 매우 다양한 반응양상을 보인다는 사실을 알게 되었다 This study was designed to clarify the cytotoxic effects of 5, 7-dihydroxytryptamine (5, 7-DHT) on the serotonergic neurons in the dorsal raphe nucleus, and to investigate the glial reaction during the neurodegenerative changes by light and electron microscopy. Adult male rats (Sprague-Dawley strain) weighing from 250 g to 350 g each were used as experimental animal. 5, 7-DHT(200 μg dissolved in 0.9% NaCl) was injected into the lateral ventricle of the rat brain with the Hamiton syringe fixed on stereotaxic apparatus. The control rats were given with the similar volume of 0.9% NaCl. The rats were sacrified on the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 10th and 20th day after the injection of 5, 7-DHT. The results were as follows : Glial reactions induced by 5, 7-DHT were also observed in DRN. In early experimental stage, microglial reactions prevailed, whereas astroglial reactions were prevailing in later stage. In addition, microglial cells phagocytosed and removed the degenerated cells. However, astrocytes in DRN did not show phagocytotic activities such as microglial cells. Based on the results, author thought that 5, 7-DHT act as a specific neurotoxin to serotonergic neurons in DRN, and induces severe neurodegenerative changes. The glial reactions in DRN are activated during the neurodegerative changes, and show characteristic patterns of glial reactions.

In a previous publication the authory reported several results on the most adequate cultural condition (temperature, pH, incubation period) for the cellulase production of A. phoenicis K.U.175. This study investigated the effect of various nitrients, such as nitrogen sources and rhamnose as a sole carbon source and different amounts of pyridoxine to increase the mycelial growth and the cellulase production of the fungus in Czapek's liquid medium. The concentration of crabon to nitrogen source in Czapek's liquid medium has influenced upon the mycelial growth and the cellulase (Avicelase, CM Caso and Salicinase) production of fungus. In case that the concentration of carbon to nitrogen source in Czapek's liquid medium reached to 30:1, NH_4NO_3 exhibited the most effective source of nitrogen of growth of the fungus. In case that the concentration of carbon to nitrogen source in Czapek's liquid medium reached to 6:1, yeast extract, pepton, L-asparagine were excellent nitrogen sources for gowth of the fungus. NH_4C1 as a sole nitragon source in Czapek's liquid medium exhibited the most offective cellulase production in the ratio of ten to one of carbon and nitrogen source. 10㎍ of Pyridoxine/100ml medium exhibited the optimum concentration for the cellulase production of the fungus. The cellulase production of the fungus has reached the maximum level at the phase of logarithmic growth in 3 days after inoculation of A.phoenicis K.U.175.

The 63 patients(20 males, 43 females) were treated for their trigeminal neuralgia at the Department, of Oral Medicine, Pusan National University Hospital from 1993 to 1998. All the patients were treated for their trigeminal neuralgia by conservative methods such as medication, and Electric Acupuncture Stimulation Therapy The obtained results were as follows: 1. Trigeminal neuralgia was mainly involved in the patients of past forties, women and acute group. 2. 50.8% of patients were related to maxillary branches of trigeminal nerves. The trigger points were on gingivae, cheeks, teeth, lips in order. 3. 55.6% of patients with trigeminal neuralgia had systemic diseases and 39.7% were related to dental practices. 4. Success rate of the treatments was 71.4% and the recurrence rate was 26.3%. 5. The refractory factors in improving symptoms were chronic history, involvement of complex branches, and experience of prosthodontic treatments.

ABSTRACT The study was conducted to determine influence of harvesting date, mulching and plant density on growth and yield of Angelica acutiloba KITAGAWA. Harvesting was conducted on 3, October 26 December in 1997 and 4 March in 1998. The later harvesting date, the more increased the growth of below ground system, but the growth of above ground system decreased. Significance of the relationship between plant height and root diameter was not recognized in all of plots, on the other hand, plant height decreased but root diameter increased when harvesting date was late. Plant height and root diameter increased respectively with a mulching of polyethylene film in mulching treatment, and on a broad planting density. The significant relationship of root weights between fresh and dry was high recognized. The root weights of fresh and dry increased at the mulching of black polyethylene film and on the broad planting density. The number of branches decreased at the early harvesting date but increased at the late harvesting date and the most number of branches was 21.7 in the mulching of transparent polyethylene film of all the plots. Fresh root yield per lOa, was 1300kg, increased as the harvesting date was late, and was 1225kg in the mulching black polyethylene film, and was 1622kg in the planting distance of 40x15cm, respectively.

This experimental study has been conducted to investigate the effect of nozzle diameter on spray characteristics under the parameters of injection pressure and ambient pressure. The double flash method was used to visualize diesel sprays, and the results obtained in this study are as follows; The diesel spray is divided into smooth liquid core, disturbed liquid core and the chaotic region which is generated the droplets and the ligaments by spray overtaking. The transition point with spray tip velocity variation under the injection pressure of experimental rage in ambient pressure 3MPa is generated in earlier duration time as high spray pressure. Also, spray tip velocity is gradually decreased as the increase of the spray tip velocity.

Small cell carcinoma(also known as oat cell carcinoma) of the urinary bladder is an extremely rare malignancy and is derived from neuroendocrine stem cells. It is usually biologically aggressive tumor with early vascular and muscle invasion, so it has poor prognosis. Radiological findings of small cell carcinoma are similar to other malignancies of urinary bladder, therefore it is impossible to distinguish small cell carcinoma from other malignancies. Pathologic study is an only useful method for differential diagnosis of bladder tumor. We report here the case of 74th years old woman presented with painless gross hematuria.

From May to July 1993, we observed an epidemic of aseptic meningitis. We performed clinical and virological studies on 174 children with aseptic meningitis who had been admitted to the Department of Pediatrics, Asan Medical Center, from May to July, 1993 The results were as follows; 1) This epidemic of aseptic meningitis was most prevalent in June 1993. The most of the patients were 3 to 6 years old and male to female ratio was 1.6 : 1. 2) The most patients suffered from fever, vomiting, headache, and abdominal pain was noticed in 36% of patients, characteristically. 3) In 7 cases among 10 randomly sampled cases, enterovirus was cultured. Among them, we performed serotyping in 3 cases and Echovirus 9 was isolated.
