A computer simulation model is proposed for selecting effective egress paths and estimating the evacuation time in case of evacuating all the residents of a building to the safe area. The physical structure of a building is formulated into a network. The following are considered in the model: the congestion effect to the velocity, the behavioral pattern of the evacuees, and the probabilistic nature of the evacuation process. Coded in SLAM Ⅱ/PC, the simulation model can generate the output such as evacuation time (max, average), utilization of exits, utilization of passages, floor clearance times, and bottleneck information. The "rigorous" validation of the proposed model is not completed yet but remains to be a future research topic.

Molybdenum silicide has gained interest for high temperature structural applications. However, poor fracture toughness at room temperatures and low creep resistance at elevated temperatures have hindered its practical applications. This study uses a novel powder metallurgical approach applied to uniformly mixed molybdenum silicide-based composites with silicon carbide. The degree of powder mixing with different ball milling time is also demonstrated by Voronoi diagrams. Core-shell composite powder with Mo nanoparticles as the shell and ${\beta}-SiC$ as the core is prepared via chemical vapor transport. Using this prepared core-shell composite powder, the molybdenum silicide-based composites with uniformly dispersed ${\beta}-SiC$ are fabricated using pressureless sintering. The relative density of the specimens sintered at $1500^{\circ}C$ for 10 h is 97.1%, which is similar to pressure sintering owing to improved sinterability using Mo nanoparticles.

We have studied the change of spectral response in a Quantum Well Infrared Photodetector (QWIP) by using the Impurity Free Vacancy Disordering (IFVD) technique to change the bandgap of GaAs/AlGaAs Multi Quantum-Well (MQW) absorption layer. The fabricated QWIP whose MQW absorption region was intermixed by an IFVD technique showed the maximum change in spectral response peak from 8 to 10mm at 10K when compared to a QWIP without intermixing.

자동차 조립공장의 생산은 혼류생산 (Mixed-Model Production)의 대표적인 형태로서 동일한 조립라인에서 다양한 사양의 차량들을 Batch생산이 아니라 각 사양의 생산량이 평준화되도록 생산을 하는 것이 특징이다. 그런데 도장라인에서 생산완료 된 순서는 혼류조립라에서의 평준화 생산에 적합하지 않은 상태이므로 조립라인에의 투입순서를 재작성하여 제어하여야 한다. 본 논문에서는 조립라인의 실시간 투입순서 작성 및 운영시스템을 자동화하여 성공적으로 운영한 사례를 소개하고자 한다.
Management of Colorectal Trauma

Although the treatment strategy for colorectal trauma has advanced during the last part of the twentieth century and the result has improved, compared to other injuries, problems, such as high septic complication rates and mortality rates, still exist, so standard management for colorectal trauma is still a controversial issue. For that reason, we designed this article to address current recommendations for management of colorectal injuries based on a review of literature. According to the reviewed data, although sufficient evidence exists for primary repair being the treatment of choice in most cases of nondestructive colon injuries, many surgeons are still concerned about anastomotic leakage or failure, and prefer to per- form a diverting colostomy. Recently, some reports have shown that primary repair or resection and anastomosis, is better than a diverting colostomy even in cases of destructive colon injuries, but it has not fully established as the standard treat- ment. The same guideline as that for colonic injury is applied in cases of intraperitoneal rectal injuries, and, diversion, pri- mary repair, and presacral drainage are regarded as the standards for the management of extraperitoneal rectal injuries. However, some reports state that primary repair without a diverting colostomy has benefit in the treatment of extraperito- neal rectal injury, and presacral drainage is still controversial. In conclusion, ideally an individual management strategy would be developed for each patient suffering from colorectal injury. To do this, an evidence-based treatment plan should be carefully developed.

The professional alliance between disciplines of architecture and furniture design in the interwar years as displayed in the prominent architectural exhibitions of the era is interesting in the context of professionalization of American architecture. The way furniture design gradually became part of the architectural shows not only reflected but provided the practical field in which the architectural institution sought, under the new social order since the mid 1910s, a new professional cast—departing from the former milieu in the realm of high-art by the Beaux-Arts Movement. Exhibitions held by the Architectural League of New York in the 1920s revealed that the early impetus for reformation toward efficiency had been subsumed by the system of Beaux-Arts. By contrast, “The Architect and the Industrial Arts” show of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, in which the most prominent architects of the era exercised their professional expertise in the design of “Moderne Style” interior furnishings, clearly shows how architects, in the milieu of expanding commercial market, sought to align their profession as industrial designers.
