        This study aimed to evaluate effect of improvement of hand washing after quality improvement (QI) activity in a dental hospital. A questionnaire was implemented to measure awareness, hand washing activity, suitability on location of hand washing agents and satisfaction related to QI activities. Hand washing improving program was poster, exhibiting slogan and announcement in the morning etc. In the result of awareness, improvement in respondent who aware hand washing is importance for infection control (6%) was followed. Also respondent who don’t know 6 step for hand washing was reduced (20%). In the result of hand washing activity, rate of hand washing activity (more than six or ten times) a day was improved (25%), while rate of using only water by hand washing agents was constant (10%). A number of respondent received a negative in response to the location of hand washing agents (14%). In the result of satisfaction related to QI activities, general respondent received a being of help for implementation of hand washing on QI activities (72%). Positive influence on the hand washing activity was shown in QI activities, but a multi-fauceted program is required to achieve a better result.

        Autonomousely replicating sequence Binding Factor 1(ABF1) is a DNA-binding protein that specifically recognizes the RTCRYN5ACG at many sites in the yeast genome including the promoter element, mating-type silencer and ARSs. To express the intact full-length ABF1 gene in E. coli, the ABF1 gene has been cloned into pMAL-c2. Optimal expression of the fusion protein of ABF1 and MBP(maltose binding protein) was obtained by IPTG(Isoprophyl-β-D-thiogalactopyranoside) induction at 5 hr at 32℃. ABF1 fusion protein was purified by amylose resin affinity chromatography. Fusion protein of MBP and ABF1 was digested by Factor Xa and characterized by gel retardation assay.

        Transvaginal Direct Puncture and Ethanol Sclerotherapy for Cervicovaginal Venous Malformations: A Case Report and Literature Review

        Cervicovaginal venous malformations are extremely rare. Sclerotherapy is proven to be effective for superficial venous malformations but not for venous malformations in the lower genital tract of female. A 52-year-old female presented with intermittent vaginal bleeding. The amount of vaginal bleeding gradually increased over 3 months. Contrast-enhanced pelvis CT showed several phleboliths and dilated vessels, but pelvic angiography showed no early draining veins, nidus, or feeding artery. We performed transvaginal direct puncture and ethanol sclerotherapy rather than surgical treatment because she wanted to preserve the uterus. After four sessions of sclerotherapy, she had significantly decreased vaginal bleeding without complications. Here, we report the first case of cervicovaginal venous malformations successfully treated with transvaginal direct puncture and ethanol sclerotherapy.

        한우 체외수정란 Biopsy 후 PCR 기법을 이용한 성 판정과 성감별 수정란의 이식

        This study was carried out to determine the factors on achieving good viability of embryos biopsied fur sexing, to investigate pregnancy rate following embryo transfer(ET) with sexed embryos, and to confirm the accuracy for the calves bort following ET with sexed embryos by polymerase chain reaction(PCR). To investigate viability of Hanwoo embryos after biopsy for sexing, fresh and frozen/thawed embryos were biopsied according to different developmental day of blastocysts, different stage of blastocysts, and different biopsy grade and the embryos themselves were incubated for 2 hours in TCM199 after microsection to be evaluated morphologically for recovery as blastocyst. The results obtained were as follows : 1. The rate of oocytes cleaved in vitro and the rate of blastocyst of the cleaved oocytes were 52.5% and 21.6%, respectively. The rate of blastocyst on day 8 was 11.2%, denoting the highest rate during whole culture period posterior to in vitro fertilization(IVF) 2. After biopsy for sexing, the viability rate of blastocyst on day 7, 8 and 9 was 75.0%, 88.4%, and 100.0%, respectively and the viability of early, mid, and expanded blastocyst after biopsy was 75.0%, 88.9%, and 91.1%, respectively The viability rate of fresh and frozen/thawed embryos was 89.9%, 71.4%, respectively. And the viability of expanded, hatching, and hatched blastocyst of frozen/thawed embryos was : 75.0%, 75.0%, and 50.0%, respectively. The viability of embryos according to biopsy grade of 10∼20%, 21∼30%, and 31∼40% was 85.7%, 91.5%, and 71.4%, respectively. 3. Pregnancy rate after transfer with biopsied embryo between flesh and frozen/thawed embryos was 22.6% and 20.0%, respectively. 4. In comparison between sex by PCR method and sex of calves born after embryo transfer, the accuracy of sex deterimination was 92.3% (12/13).

        Relapsed Esophageal Web in a Patient with Plummer-Vinson Syndrome

        Plummer-Vinson syndrome is characterized by dysphagia, iron deficiency anemia, and upper esophageal web. The associated symptoms can be resolved by administering iron supplements as well as by endoscopic intervention. Relapse in patients with Plummer-Vinson syndrome is very rare. We describe a case of a 42-year-old woman with Plummer-Vinson syndrome whose symptoms were successfully treated with endoscopic dilatation and iron supplementation at first admission; however, 1 year later, she revisited our hospital because of dysphagia. On second admission, investigations revealed esophageal web relapse in Plummer-Vinson syndrome. She was again successfully treated with endoscopic dilatation and iron supplementation. After first admission, her anemia was not normalized due to poor compliance and loss of follow-up. We experienced a case of esophageal web relapse due to uncorrected iron deficiency anemia in a patient with Plummer-Vinson syndrome. This experience indicates that continuous iron supplementation and long-term follow-up is important in patients with Plummer-Vinson syndrome.

        성감별된 한우 체외수정란의 수정란 이식

        체외수정된 한우 수정란을 PCR 기법에 의한 성감별을 위해 생검하여 회복시까지 1∼2시간 동안 배양하였다. 이 성감별된 한우 수정란을 2000년 2월부터 2001년 2월까지 한우 49두와 젖소 16두에 이식하였다. 수정란이 이식된 65두의 수란우중 14두(한두 12두, 젖소 2두)가 성감별 결과와 동일한 성의 산자를 생산하였고, 전체 수태율은 21.5%를 나타내었다. 1. 총 65두의 수란우중 웅성 수정란은 35두에 자성 수정란은 30두에 이식되었고 이 In-vitro fertilized Hanwoo embryos were biopsied for sex determination by PCR. Biopsied embryos were incubated for 1∼2 hours for the recovery. Those sexed Hanwoo embryos were transferred to 49 Hanwoo and 16 Holstein recipients from February 2000 to February 2001. Of 65 recipients, 14 cows(12 Hanwoo and 2 Holstein) delivered the same offspring as sex-determined by PCR, therefore the conception rate was 21.5%. 1. Total 65 embryos(male 35, female 30) were transferred to recipients, and 14 calves (male 6, female 8) were delivered. In comparison between sex by PCR method and sex of calves born after embryo transfer, the accuracy of sex determination was 100.0%. 2. The conception rate after transfer with biopsied embryo between Hanwoo and Holstein was 24.5% and 12.5% 3. The conception rate after transfer with biopsied embryo between fresh and frozen-thawed embryos was 23.5% and 14.3%. 4. The conception rate according to the season when embryo was transferred was 11.8, 29.4, 23.5 and 20.0% for spring, summer, autumn and winter, respectively. 5. The conception rate according to embryo quality after biopsy was 41.7, 30.0 and 0.0% for excellent, good and fair quality. 6. The conception rate according to thickness of uterine horn was 71.4, 18.9, 11.8 and 0.0% for 0, +, ++ and +++ thickness. 7. The conception rate according to the site in the uterine hem where embryo was put was 30.0, 20.0 and 10.0% for cranial, mid, and caudal part of uterine horn. 8. The conception rate according to the quality of corpus luteum ipsilateral to the uterine horn where embryos was transferred was 41.2, 14.3 and 15.4% for excellent, good and fair quality. 9. The conception rate according to the time required for embryo transfer was 18.2, 30.0, 30.0, 0.0 and 25.0% for 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 minutes. 10. The conception rate according to parity of recipients was 26.5, 19.1, 14.3 and 0.0% for the primiparous, the 2nd parous, the 3rd parous and the 4th parous recipients. These results indicated that fresh embryos are more demanded than frozen-thawed embryos for good conception rate in embryo transfer with biopsied-sexed embryo. Also, it was indicated that we should consider embryo-recovering condition, recipient's uterine thickness, transfer site in uterine horn, quality of corpus luteum, time required for transfer and parity of recipient to achieve good conception rate in ET with biopsied-sexed embryos.

        한우 및 젖소에서 체외 수정란 생산과 신선 및 동결 수정란 이식 결과

        한우 및 젖소에서 체외 수정란을 생산하여 수란 우에 이식하기 위해 도축장에서 난소를 채취하여 난자를 회수한 후 체외 성숙, 체외 수정, 체외 배양과정을 거쳐 수정란을 생산하였다. 체외 수정시 난자는 난구세포 부착 정도에 따라 난할율을 조사하였고, 한우와 젖소에서 체외수정 후 배반포율을 조사하였다. 신선 및 동결 수정란을 수란우에 각각 이식하여 산자 분만에 따른 수태율을 조사하였다. 1. 한우 난소 2,021개에서 20,387개의 난자를 회수하여 체외 수 The ovaries from Hanwoo and Holstein were collected from labattoir and transferred to laboratory. Oocytes were aspirated and incubated in incubator for 24 hours for maturation. Oocytes were coincubated with the sperms for 5 hours. Cleaved oocytes were selected 48 hours after coincubation and half of the medium was changed newly every 48 hour until blastocyst formation. Cleavage rate and blastocyst rate were investigated according to different breeds and different status of cumulus cells surrounding the oocytes. Blastocysts were either transferred to the recipients or frozen until use. The result of embryo transfer with fresh or frozen embryos was investigated. The rate of male offspring following embryo transfer was also investigated. The rate of cleavage was for Hanwoo and for Holstein oocytes. The rate of cleavage according to status of oocyte was shown highest in the oocytes completely surrounded with cumulus cells and lowest in denuded oocytes for both Hanwoo and Holstein oocytes. The rate of blastocyst from cleaved oocytes was for Hanwoo and for Holstein. The rate of pregnancy/delivery following embryo transfer with fresh IVF embryos was for Hanwoo and for Holstein. The rate of pregnancy/delivery following embryo transfer with frozen IVF embryos was for Hanwoo and for Holstein. The rate of male calf produced by embryo transfer was for Hanwoo and for Holstein

        Importance of uniformly redistributing external pressure on cycling of pouchtype Li-metal batteries

        Li-metal anode (LMA) is considered promising for overcoming the energy density limit of current Li-ion batteries. However, LMAs in large-scale cells are limited by uneven and excessive anode swelling, owing to the notorious buildup of a highly porous passivation (“dead” Li) layer. To demonstrate the impact of the pressure environment on the LMA swelling behavior and cycling stability, the distribution of the actual stack pressure was visualized in pouch cell platforms using pressure-sensitive films. If the stack pressure is not uniform, pouch cell failure occurs regardless of how high the applied pressure is. Conformal stack pressure assisted by the modified pressure setup with force redistributing pads enabled stable cycling even at a lower external pressure. By correlating with the thickness distribution of the “dead” Li layer over the LMA surfaces after cycling, it is suggested that a uniform stack pressure is crucial for mitigating anode swelling and the stable cycling of Li metal pouch cells.
