In this paper, the effects of a nonionic surfactant on the etch uniformity and the etch profile during the wet-etching process of high-purity aluminum were investigated for the fabrication of uniform micropattern arrays. To improve the surface roughness of a high-purity aluminum plate, a mechanical lapping process and an electrolytic polishing process were used. After electrolytic polishing process, the surface roughness, Ra, of the high-purity aluminum plate was improved from 1.25 ㎛ to 0.02 ㎛. A photoresist was used as an etching mask during the aluminum etching process, where the mixture of phosphoric acid, acetic acid, nitric acid, a nonionic surfactant and water was used as the aluminum etchant. Different amounts of the Triton X-100 nonionic surfactant were added to the aluminum etchant to investigate the effect of a nonionic surfactant during the wet-etching process of high-purity aluminum. The etch rate and the etch profile were measured by an optical interferometer and a scanning electron microscope.

This paper presents a disposable microfluidic infusion pump using the restoring force of elastomeric membrane of Polydimethylsiloxane. Microfluidic infusion pump consists of hydraulic resistance control part, elastomeric blister actuator part, drug inlet and outlet. Expanded elastomeric blister actuator continuously pushes liquid in the chamber to outlet. At same time, microchannel diameter near the outlet was controlled by thin elastomeric membrane in hydraulic resistance control part. Eventually flow rate of infused liquid is controlled by air pressure. In experimental study, the amount of the filled liquid in the blister is precisely controlled by the height of the blister. Flow rate of infused liquid could be controlled, that is, controlled release of the drug over time was possible by adjusting hydraulic resistance and restoring pressure with the blister actuator.

This paper presents a performance testing device for safety fences of domestic professional baseball stadiums. Safety fences of professional stadiums have been fabricated and installed without adhering to any safety regulations, safety fences demonstrate critically low safety performances and many outfielders are severely injured every season. In this study, we designed and fabricated a performance testing device for safety fences and investigated its validity and reproducibility. A HIC (head injury criterion) was used for the statistical analysis of colliding data. We found that the optimal expulsion pressure and eliminated the accelerometer by replacing it with a velocity sensor using an estimation of the correlation between the momentum data obtained from velocity sensor and the impulse data from the accelerometer.

N/A Objectives: Peptic ulcer is the major condition that affect numerous individuals every year. In 1983, Warren and Marshall presented the evidence that H. pylori was associated with gastritis and peptic ulcer. Thereafter, K. pylori infection is thought to be a important factor in the pathogenesis of gastric and duodenal ulcer. In western studies, about 58% to 100% of patients with peptic ulcer disease were infected with H. pylori. But in Korea, there is no study about the prevalence of H. pylori infection in peptic ulcer disease despite of its high prevalence and importance. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of H. pylori infection in case of gastric and duodenal ulcer disease in Korea. Methods - We surveyed the prevalence of H. pylori infection of 1031 patients, who were diagnosed as gastric or duodenal ulcer by gastrofiberoscopy. H. pylori infection was evaluated with Rapid Urease Test(CLO test) and/or histology by Wright-Giemsa staining. Results: 1) Peptic ulcer was more frequently developed in males than females, as the frequency of peptic ulcer was 77% in males, and 23% in females. But in view of the prevalence of H. pylori infection, there was no significant difference between males and females, 73% in males and 71% in females. 2) Gastric ulcer was most common in sixth decade(29.8%), but the prevalence of H. pylori infection was peak in fourth(76%), and fifth decade (73%). 3) Duodenal ulcer was most common in fourth decade(26.3%), but the prevalence of H. pylori infection was peak in teenagers(93%) and third decade(87%). 4) The patients who had both gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer concurrently were most common in sixth decade(27.9%), but the prevalence of H, pylori infection was peak in third decade(100%). Conclusion: We concluded that the majority of peptic ulcer patients in Korea had H. pylori infection. Particularly, young aged patients had higher H. pylori infection rate than old aged.

Micro/nano patterns for optical concentration and diffusion have been studied in the various fields such as displays, optics, and sensors. Conventional micro patterns were continuous and linear shapes due to using linear-type light sources, however, recently non-continuous patterns have been applied as point sources are used for dot-type light sources such as LEDs and OLEDs. In this study, a hybrid machining technology combining an indentation machining method and an AAO process was developed for manufacturing the non-continuous micro patterns having nano patterns. First, mirror-like surfaces (Ra<20nm) of pure Aluminum substrates were obtained by optimizing cutting conditions. Then, The letter of ‘K’ consisting of the arrays of the micro patterns was manufactured by the indentation machining method which has a similar principle to indentation hardness testing. Finally, nano patterns were machined by AAO process on the micro patterns. Conclusively, a specific letter having nano-micro hybrid patterns was manufactured in this study.

This paper presents a construction method regarding a tubular nano-mesh for which the anodic oxidation of aluminum (Al) wire is used. The first step of tubular-nano-mesh production is Al-wire anodization. A new anodizing device was made for the wire-based uniform anodization for this study, and a high-purity (99.999%) Al wire with a 2 mm diameter was used. Also, an electrolytic solution was used as a 0.07 M oxalic acid, while the electrolytic-solution temperature was maintained at -3℃. While the applied voltage and the process time were varied, the AAO (Anodic Aluminum Oxide) characteristics of the Al wire were observed. When 60 V was applied to the wire, alumina cracks were not evident, whereas the application of 100 V produced alumina cracks; this is because the growth rate of the nano-pore voltage affected the alumina shape. For the subsequent construction of the tubular alumina structure, an Al-etchant (HCl + H2O + CuCl2 + 2H2O) etched-Al portion of the anodized wire was employed. The final step is a pore-widening process that is implemented through the hole channel. The anodized wire was dipped in the alumina etchant, and the pore-wall removal was checked over time.
