The purpose of this study was to analyze the research achievements of university professors with regard to various attribute variables and interpret the results. An empirical analysis was conducted on professors teaching the field of medicine and pharmacology at the universities of Korea. To summarize the research findings, the human attributes, environmental attributes and funding attributes analyzed had a significant effect on their research achievements. Based on the research findings, the author posits two suggestions. First, support for the under-represented research groups affiliated with sex or age should increase. Secondly, it is vital that research achievements should be linked to industrial needs withy concommitant increase in support.

N/A Although half of the cases of acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) in children have been cured by chemotherapy alone, a dilemma still remains as to the choice of the appropriate therapeutic regimens for childhood ALL in relapse and adult ALL. Recently, 10 patients with ALL were given a supralethal dose of cytoreductive chemoradiotherapy followed by HLA-identical bone marrow transplantation. Among them, only one patient who had been refractory to conventional intensive chemotherapy died of acute renal failure, possibly due to toxicities of the drugs, including long term use of amphotericin-B as well as cyclosporin-A before complete recovery of pancytopenia. Nine patients are enjoying complete remission ranging from 3 to 68 months (median 12 months). Even if the observation period seems to be limited, there were no deaths due to venoocclusive, disease, graft failure, graft versus host reaction, interstitial pneumonia and/or relapse. The actuarial two year disease free survival is 90%. There is still controversy as to determination of the correct 'Timing' for allogeneic bone marrow transplantation in ALL. But we would like to recommend allogeneic bone marrow transplantation for patients with childhood ALL in the advanced state as well as for even minimal residual disease among poor risk groups.
정부의 연구비 지원이 연구자의 연구성과에 미친 영향 분석

이 연구의 목적은 정부의 연구비 지원이 연구자의 연구 성과에 미친 영향을 실증 분석하는 데 있다. 이 연구에서는 공학 분야와 자연과학 분야에서 각각 두 개의 전공분야를 선정하여 각 전공별 연구자를 대상으로 하는 실증분석을 수행하였다. 실증분석 결과를 간략히 요약하면, 정부의 연구비 지원은 KCI급 연구업적과 SCI급 연구업적에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 요인인 것으로 분석되었다. 그리고 분석결과에서, 학문분야별로 연구비와 연구업적의 관계에 상이한 차이가 있다는 점을 감안할 때, 향후 연구비 지원 정책을 수립하는 과정에서 학문의 특성이 반영된 정책수립에 유용하게 적용될 수 있을 것이다. The purpose of this study is to conduct an in-depth analysis of the effect of support on the quality of research. Involved in this study were two areas of studies, namely; engineering and natural science and the respondents were accordingly selected among those who majored in the studies. The findings of the research are summarized as follows; The timely support for the research had a positive effect in rasing the quality of research to KCI and SCI. Granting that there are differences in the effect of support on research quality depending on the areas of studies, it is essential that the process of formulating support policies take into account the characteristics of the area of study.

N/A During the last decade, there has been substantial progress in the treatment of acute myelogenaus leukemia (AML) due to the advent of multi-drug combination chemotherapy and bone marrow transplantation. N4-Behenoyl-l-β-D arabinofuranosylcytosine (BHAC) is one of the Ara-C derivatives which has been found to possess strong antitumor activity regardless of administration schedules mainly because of its resistance to cytidine deaminase. Twenty-five previously untreated adult patients with AML (Group 1) and 10 relapsed or refractory patients with AML (Group 2) were treated with BHAC containing regimens for remission induction. Thirteen patients (52%) achieved complete remission (CR) in Group 1 and 3 patients (30%) in Group 2. The median durtion of CR was 6 months (4-22). All patients whose bone marrow on the 7th day of treatment course contained no blast cell (M0) or who were below 5% blast cells (M1) entered into CR, whereas those above 25% blast cells (M3) did not enter into CR. During induction chemotherapy, 3 patients died of sepsis due to perianal abscess (1) and CVA (1) in Group 1, and of acute fulminant hepatitis (1) in Group 2 before recovery of pancytopenia. Major toxicities and side effects were as follows: infection 31/32 (96.9%), nausa and vomiting 10/32 (31. 3%), stomatitis and oral ulcer 8/32 (25%), abnormal liver function test 4/32 (12,5%), and diarrhea 3/32 (9, 4%). Rut these could be circumvented by appropriate supportive care. Even if the duration of observation doesn`t seem to be enough to compare the remission rate of BHAC-containing regimens with that of other conventional inductive regimens, this study suggests that BHAC is as effective as Ara-C for remission induction of AML. Since we expect that the higher CR rate could be obtained by escalating the dose of BHAC, further clinical trials including multicenter studies are necessary to raise the CR rate.
주석-슬랙 중 $Ta_2O_5, Nb_2O_5, TiO_2, SnO_2$, 및 $ZrO_2$의 X-선 형광분석

With the synthetic standards, valuable metals $(Ta_2O_5, Nb_2O_5, TiO_2, SnO_2$, and $ZrO_2$) in the tin slags have been determined by the x-ray fluorescence spectrometry. The powder sample and the standards are homogeneously mixed with anhydrous $Li_2B_4O_7$ and La_2O_3$ in weight ratio of 15 : 42 : 3 respectively. The mixed material is fused at $1,150^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes to be changed into the glass bead. The bead is ground to (-) 325 mesh size and pelletized. The analytical results obtained in this work are consistent with the data obtained by other common methods within allowable error range. The standard deviation for $Ta_2O_5$ in PTS-H sample is 0.12 % at level of 3.40 % content. 합성표준시료를 이용하여 주석슬랙 중 유가금속들인 $Ta_2O_5, Nb_2O_5, TiO_2, SnO_2 $및 $ZrO_2$를 X-선형광분광법으로 정량하였다. 분석시료와 표준시료분말들을 융제인 무수 $Li_2B_4O_7$과 $La_2O_3$를 무게비 15:42:3의 비율로 균일하게 혼합한다. 혼합분말을 $1,150^{\circ}C$에서 30분간 용융하여 유리구슬을 만든다. 이 구슬을 325메쉬 이하로 분쇄하여 수압기를 이용 pellet으로 만들어 시편으로 사용한다. 분석결과들은 다른 분석법에 의해 얻은 값들과 허용오차 범위내에서 잘 일치한다. 또 PTS-H시료에 대한 표준편차가 함량 3.40 %에서 0.12 %로 재현성도 좋음을 보여 주었다.
희석 파라미터법에 의한 철광석 중 철과 티탄의 X-선 형광분석

철광석 중에서 주성분 원소들인 철과 티탄올 희석 파라미터법(dilution parameter method)을 이용한 X-선 형광분석법으로 분석하였다. 조성이 비슷한 표준시료와 분석시료 각각에 적당한 희석제($ZrO_2$)를 가하여 적당한 비율 (1:1, 1:2등)로 희석시켜서 원하는 원소의 형광 X-선 세기를 측정하여 다음 식으로 희석 파라미터를 구한다.$Pa=\frac{\frac{I_{as}}{(I_{as})_d}}{D-1}{^{-1}}$이들 파라미터를 이용하여 표준시료와 분석시료의 matrix effect 차이를 보정하여 표준검량선 없이 정량 분석하였다.$W_a=W_a^*{\cdot}{\frac{I_as}{I_{as}^*}{\cdot}\frac{P_a^*}{P_a}$여기서, *는 표준시료를 표시한다. 분석결과는 습식법으로 정량한 값들과 잘 일치하고 재현성도 좋음을 보여주었다. Iron and titanium, the major constituents in iron ores, were X-ray spectrometrically determined by using the dilution parameter method. A standard and samples possessing a similar composition were diluted with the diluent $ZrO_2$ to their proper respective ratios. After measuring the intensity of the fluorescent X-ray, the dilution parameter was calculated from the following equation. $Pa=\frac{\frac{I_{as}}{(I_{as})_d}}{D-1}{^{-1}}$The dilution parameters were used to correct the difference between the matrix effect of the standard and that of the sample. The content of the major constituents was calculated, without using any standard calibration curves, from the following equation;$W_a=W_a^*{\cdot}{\frac{I_as}{I_{as}^*}{\cdot}\frac{P_a^*}{P_a}$where asterisks indicate the standard. The results agreed with those of the wet analysis within 2% of relative error, and the precision of the experiment was also tolerably good.
