마이크로어레이 기술은 수만 개 유전자의 발현 패턴을 동시에 관찰하는 것을 가능하게 하였고, 이들을 하나씩 검정하여 찾아낸 특이발현 현상을 보이는 유전자를 중심으로 질병의 진단, 치료법 정립과 신약 개발을 위한 기본 정보를 확립하였다. 그러나 개별 유전자분석의 여러 문제점이 발견되면서 유전자들을 생물학적 대사경로나 염색체 위치가 같은 것끼리 묶은 집단을 분석하여 질병의 발생이나 생존에 영향을 미치는 집단을 찾는 방법이 제시되었다. 이러한 유전자 집단의 유의성에 대한 연구는 2002년에 MIT에서 비롯되어 GSEA, SAM-GS와 중심극한 정리의 개념을 이용한 모수적 방법인 PAGE 등이 사용되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이들 통계량의 구조적 한계를 극복하고 계산이 간단한 새로운 모수적 방법을 제안하고 자료 분석을 통하여 효율성을 보였다. The development of microarray technology makes possible to analyse many thousands of genes simultaneously. While it is important to test each gene whether it shows changes in expression associated with a phenotype, human diseases are thought to occur through the interactions of multiple genes within a same functional cafe-gory. Recent research interests aims to directly test the behavior of sets of functionally related genes, instead of focusing on single genes. Gene set enrichment analysis(GSEA), significance analysis of microarray to gene-set analysis(SAM-GS) and parametric analysis of gene set enrichment(PAGE) have been applied widely as a tool for gene-set analyses. We describe their problems and propose an alternative method using a parametric analysis by adopting normal score transformation of gene expression values. Performance of the newly derived method is compared with previous methods on three real microarray datasets.
Clinical and Biochemical Diagnosis in Children with Leigh Syndrome

Purpose: Deficits of the respiratory chain are reported to be the major cause of Leigh syndrome is said to be the underlying causes. The need for biochemical diagnosis to draw more accurate diagnosis or prognosis to support treatments is rapidly increasing. This study tried to analyze the aspects of clinical characteristics and biochemical diagnosis of mitochondrial respiratory chain complex (MRC) defect in Leigh syndrome, using methods of biochemical enzyme assay. Methods: We included total number of 47 patients who satisfied the clinical criteria of Leigh syndrome and confirmed by biochemical diagnosis. All those patients went through muscle biopsy to perform biochemical enzyme assay to analyze MRC enzyme in order to find the underlying cause of Leigh syndrome. Results: MRC I defect was seen in 23 (48.9%) cases taking the first place and MRC IV defect in 15 (31.9%) following it. There were 9 (19.2%) cases of combined MRC defect. Combined cases of type I and IV were detected in 7 (14.9%) patients while type I and V in 2 (4.3%). The onset age of symptom was less than 1 year old in 28 (59.6%). The most common early symptom, observed in 23 (48.9%), was delayed development, but there were other various neurological symptoms observed as well. In regard with the disease progression, 35 (74.5%) patients showed slowly progressive course, the one that progressed continuously but slowly over 2 years of period. As for Maximum motor development, 22 (46.8%) were bed-ridden state, most of them suffering serious delayed development. Patients showed various symptoms with different organs involved, though neuromuscular involvement was most prominent. Delayed development was seen in all cases. Multifocal lesion in brain MRI study was seen in 36 (76.6 %) cases, taking a greater percentage than 11 (23.4%) cases with single lesion. In MR spectroscopy study, the characteristic lactate peak of mitochondrial disease was identified in 20 (42.6%) patients. Conclusions: Further analysis of clinical and biochemical diagnosis on more extended group of patients with Leigh syndrome will enable us to improve diagnostic precision and to understand the natural course of mitochondrial disease.

ESCO협회(회장 유제인)는 지난 10월부터 11월까지 한 달 동안 ESCO 활성화를 위한 의견수렴조사를 실시했다. 전체 등록 ESCO 150여개사를 대상으로 실시된 이번조사에서 각 ESCO들은 자금, 제도, 운영 등에 있어서 각가지 의견을 쏟아내 아직 제도정착을 위해서는 가야할 길이 멀다는 것을 증명했다. 그럼에도 불구하고 답변서를 제출한 ESCO의 75%가 내년도 ESCO시장 전망을 긍정적이라고 밝혀 에너지절감시장의 지속가능성에 무게중심으로 두고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이번 커버스토리에서는 설문조사 결과를 분석해본다.

Attacks in wireless sensor networks (WSN), are similar to the attacks in ad-hoc networks because there are deployed on a wireless environment. However existing security mechanism cannot apply to WSN, because it has limited resource and hostile environment. One of the typical attack in WSN is setting up wrong route that using wormhole. To overcome this threat, Ji-Hoon Yun et al. proposed WODEM (WOrmhole attack DEfense Mechanism) which can detect and counter with wormhole. In this scheme, it can detect and counter with wormhole attacks by comparing hop count and initial TTL (Time To Live) which is pre-defined. The selection of a initial TTL is important since it can provide a tradeoff between detection ability ratio and energy consumption. In this paper, we proposed a fuzzy rule-based system for TTL determination that can conserve energy, while it provides sufficient detection ratio in wormhole attack.

N/A Decarburization phenomena of SM50C steel casted in ceramic mold was investigated. As result, decarburized depth increased by increased by increasing the volume-to-surface area ratio and mold temperature. And the relations between them is y(㎝)=(1.96×10^(-5)T+0.0135)×M-1.05×10^(-5)T+9.73×10^(-3). When mold is controlled by Ar ags, reducing atmosphere, decarburized depth is decreased. In case of adding graphite powder in the mold, decarburization is decreased more. Specially, when graphite powder is added on the mold materials and the wax is layed on the mold, decarburization is almost prevented.
