        난류 유동 하에서 덕트 내의 착상

        A mathematical model considering the air side and the frost layer is presented to predict the frost layer growth. The standard k-$\varepsilon$ model for the air flow and the diffusion and energy equations for the frost layer are employed. The numerical results are compared with experimental data to validate the present model, and agree well with experimental data within a maximum error of 10%. The present model predicts well the frost properties and heat and mass transfer with respect to the frosting time. The variation of total heat transfer strongly depends on the operating condition, and has a similar trend to that of the sensible heat transfer. The frost properties along the flow direction are also investigated.

        열교환기 표면에서의 서리층 성장에 대한 휜 피치와 배열의 영향

        This paper presents the effects of the fin array and pitch on the frost layer growth of a heat exchanger. The numerical results are compared with experimental data of a cold plate to validate the present model, and agree well with experimental data within a maximum error of 8%. The frost behaviors of the staggered fin array are somewhat different from those of in-line array. The frost layer formed on the first fin of the in-line array grows rapidly, compared to second fin, whereas the difference of the frost layer growth between the fins of the staggered array is small. For fin pitch below 10 m, the frost layer growth of second fin in the staggered array is affected by that of first fin. The thickness of the frost layer and heat transfer of single fin are reduced with decreasing fin pitch regardless of fin array. However, the thermal performance of a heat exchanger is enhanced due to the increase of heat transfer surface area.

        In this paper, frosting experiments were conducted with variations of frosting parameters in order to obtain the correlations of frost properties. As a result, the local thickness, density, and surface temperature of the frost layer were presented. The dimensionless correlations for the frost thickness, frost density, frost surface temperature and heat transfer coefficient were derived as functions of dimensionless frosting parameters by using a dimensional analysis.

        Strategies to maintain Korea’s animal rabies non-occurrence status

        Endemic animal rabies causes >99% of all human rabies cases; elimination of animal rabies reduces the rate of human infections. The most recent animal rabies cases in the Gangwon and Gyeonggi provinces of Korea occurred in November 2012 and February 2013, respectively. Here we explore ways to ensure that Korea remains animal rabies non-occurrence. The government must prevent rabies recurrence by vaccinating dogs, distributing bait vaccine in regions with a high rabies risk, performing laboratory-based surveillance, preventing the flow of rabies-suspect animals from neighboring countries, and enhancing border quarantine. As has already been shown in several developed countries, careful and ongoing rabies control will allow Korea to remain animal rabies-free.

        The seroprevalence of Japanese encephalitis virus in goats raised in Korea

        Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) causes a mosquitoborne viral zoonosis that is becoming increasingly important to public health in east and south Asia. Although JEV is primarily associated with reproductive failure in swine, JEV infection can cause fever and headache in humans and is associated with aseptic meningitis and encephalitis. The exact mode of transmission, including host range and possible source of viral amplification within livestock, is still not completely clear. This study consisted of a serological survey of JEV infection in goats. A total of 804 goat serum samples were collected from 144 farms in Korea between May 2005 and May 2006. The incidence of positive cases was 12.1% (97 out of 804 goats). The seroprevalence of JEV infection in the 144 farms screened was 31.3% (45/144), indicating that JEV infection is frequent in goat farms in Korea. In addition, three districts of Korea (mainly in the southern region) had a higher seroprevalence of JEV compared to other areas. The results suggest that goats could be monitored epidemiologically as a sentinel animal for JEV transmission in Korea.

        지배구조를 고려한 한국프로야구의 전력평준화제도 연구

        This paper compares Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) and Major League Baseball (MLB) with respect to competitive balance and regulations. In particular, it recognizes the governance structure (and then business objective) difference between the two baseball leagues and inpours the difference into the profit maximization model in order to derive equilibrium of competitive balance. The model predicts that teams in KBO are more competitively balanced than those in MLB, given all other conditions except governance structure are equal. This paper also presents empirical evidences that are consistent with the model outcomes. It is implied that KBO may not need to strengthen the regulations that impose restrictions on the player’s labor market since the level of competitive balance is in good shape. 본 연구는 한국프로야구리그(KBO)가 구단 간 전력균형을 유지하기 위해 도입한 제도가 현실에 적합한지를 연구한다. 특히 KBO가 미국 메이저리그(MLB)와 다른 지배구조로 되어 있음을 인식하고, 이러한 차이가 전력 평준화에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 분석하여 정책적 시사점을 도출한다. 이처럼 지배구조에 따라 구단 경영목적이 다를 수 있음을 인식하고 미시경제이론모형으로 전력 평준화에 미치는 영향을 분석하였으며, 실증분석을 통하여 경험적으로 일치함을 보였다. 이론모형은 KBO 구단이 MLB보다 전력 평준화가 잘 이루어진다고 예측하였고, 실증적으로 KBO 구단 간 연봉 격차가 MLB에 비해 작으며 전력 평준화 수준도 양호한 것으로 나타났다. 이는 결과적으로 KBO에서는 추가적인 전력 평준화 제도를 도입할 필요가 적음을 시사한다.

        휜-관 열교환기의 착상 성능 최적화

        The optimization of design factors on the frosting performance of a fin-tube heat exchanger is carried out using Taguchi method. The fin spacings of the heat exchanger are selected as design factors. Optimum values of the design factors under operating conditions of a household refrigerator/freezer are proposed. The average heat transfer rate and operating time of the optimum models, compared to those of a reference model, are increased at most by $6.5\%$ and $12.9\%$, respectively.

        Safety and immunogenicity of recombinant rabies virus (ERAGS) in mice and raccoon dogs

        Purpose: The development of a genetically modified live rabies vaccine applicable to wild raccoon dogs is necessary for the eradication of rabies in Korea. Thus, we constructed a recombinant rabies virus (RABV) called the ERAGS strain, using a reverse genetic system and evaluated its safety and efficacy in mice and its safety and immunogenicity in raccoon dogs. Materials and Methods: ERAGS, which has Asn194Ser and Arg333Glu substitutions in the glycoprotein, was constructed using site-directed mutagenesis. Mice were inoculated with the ERAGS strain (either 105.0 or 107.0 FAID50/mL) via intramuscular (IM) or intracranial injections and then challenged with a virulent RABV. Raccoon dogs were administered the ERAGS strain (108.0 FAID50/mL) either orally or via the IM route and the immunogenicity of the strain was evaluated using fluorescent antibody virus neutralization tests. Results: The ERAGS strain inoculated into murine neuroblastoma cells reached 107.8 FAID50/mL at 96-hour post-inoculation. The virus was not pathogenic and induced complete protection from virulent RABV in immunized 4- and 6-week-old mice. Korean raccoon dogs immunized with the ERAGS strain via IM or oral route were also safe from the virus and developed high titer levels (26.4-32.8 IU/mL) of virus-neutralizing antibody (VNA) at 4 weeks post-inoculation. Conclusion: The ERAGS RABV strain was effectively protective against rabies in mice and produced a high VNA titer in raccoon dogs.

        Rabies immune status of raccoon dogs residing in areas where rabies bait vaccine has been distributed

        Since 2000, large amounts of rabies bait vaccine have been distributed in two provinces where raccoon dog-mediated rabies has occurred. A total of 146 raccoon dogs were caught in Gangwon and Gyeonggi Provinces from January 2017 to June 2018, and raccoon dog blood samples were collected. Of the 146 raccoon dogs, 13.7% (20/146) had rabies antibodies. In Gyeonggi and Gangwon provinces, the rate of rabies antibody was 8.5% (5/59) and 17.2% (15/87), respectively. Considering these results, it would be desirable to improve the distribution method or use a new bait vaccine to prevent animal rabies in South Korea.
