Recently, it has been reported that the posterior stabilized implant, which is clinically used for the total knee replacement (TKR), may have failure risk such as wear or fracture by the contact pressure and stress on the tibial post. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of the mal alignment of the posterior stabilized implant on the tibial post by estimating the distributions of contact pressure and von-Mises stress on a tibial post and to analyze the failure risk of the tibial post. Finite element models of a knee joint and an implant were developed from 1mm slices of CT images and 3D CAD software, respectively. The contact pressure and the von-Mises stress applying on the implant were analyzed by the finite element analysis in the neutral alignment as well as the 8 malalignment cases (3 and 5 degrees of valgus and varus angulations, and 2 and 4 degrees of anterior and posterior tilts). Loading condition at the 40% of one whole gait cycle such as 2000N of compressive load, 25N of anterior-posterior load, and 6.5Nm of torque was applied to the TKR models. Both the maximum contact pressure and the maximum von-Mises stress were concentrated on the anterior-medial region of the tibial post regardless of the malalignment, and their magnitudes increased as the degree of the malalignment increased. From present result, it is shown that the malalignment of the implant can influence on the failure risk of the tibial post.

Osteopetrosis (Albers-Schonberg's disease, Marble bones, and chalk bones) is a rare genetic disorder in which the bony structure throughout the body becomes dense and brittle. Because of the fragility of the pathologic bone, fractures are common and insufficient development of the bone marrow, optic atrophy, deafness, and facial paralysis can be developed to complications. We report a case of 35-year-old female with the autosomal dominant form of osteopetrosis combined with subtrochanteric fracture of femur that underwent surgical treatment.

The authors analyzed the clinical results of the reconstructive surgery for injured hands and feet due to frostbites and electrical burn with microsurgery in 7 patients, 12 cases at the department of orthopaedic surgery, school of medicine, Kyung Hee university from Jan. 1989 to Jul. 1992, and the results were as foollowings. 1. The age at the time of injury was av 24.6 yrs ranging from 4 to 35 yrs, and all cases were male. 2. The follow up period was av. 24.4 Mo ranging from 12 Mo. to 56 Mo. 3. The causes of injury were frostbite in 9 cases, electrical burn in 2 cases. 4. Initial operative treatment was performed av. 69.3 days ranging from 2 to 210 days. 5. For the reconstructive procedure, scapular free flap was applied in 6 cases, radial forearm flap in 4, dorsalis pedis 1ffap in 1, neurovascular island flap in 1. 6. Among total 12 cases, there were 5 cases(41.7%) of wound infection and 3 cases (25.0%) of partial necrosis of donor flap. 7. In 11 cases(90.1%), the end result was satisfactory. In the analysis of above results the reconstruction with microsurgery is effective procedure for reconstruction of Injured hand and foot due to frostbite and electrical burn.

Fractures of t4e distal femur are difficult to treat. because of its proximity to the knee joint, poor bony matrix, and anatomic configuration and there is a wide range of potential complications such as ankylosis, infection, post-traumatic arthritis, malunion, and nonunion in the treatment of these fractures. Until a few years ago, conservative management was considered superior to internal fixation of supracondylar fracture of the femur. With the development of new fixatian divices and advancement of techniques, the results of treatment of these fractures have improved. The following clinical results were shown by analyzing 51 cases of distal femur fracture treated with open reduction and internal fixation., in the department of Orthopedic surgery, College of Medicine, Kyung Hee university from Jan. 1986 to Oct. 1991. 1. The follow-up period was average 24.5 Mo. ranging from 18 Mo. to 50Mo. 2. Age distributian at the time of operation was average 42.7 Yrs. ranging form 17 Yrs. to 78 Yrs. and the ratio between male and female was 2:l. 3. The most common cause of injury was traffic accident and twenty seven patients (5Z.9%) had associated injuries in the other parts, and the most frequently associated fractures were tibiofibular and patellar fractures. 4. According to the Miillers classification, there were Z8 patients of type A, 9 patients of type B, 14 patients of type C. 5. 8 cases were fixed with intramedullary nailings, 10 with angfe blade plate, 10 with Judetplates, 14 with Maybone paltes and 9 were fixed with screws. Bone graft was performed in the 9 cases (17.6%) for bony defect and severely comminuted fractures. 6. Excellent or good results were achieved in 23 (82.1%) out of 28 patients of type A, 7 (77.8%) out of 9 patients of type B and 8 (57.1%) out of 14 patients of type C. 7. 10 patients (19.296) had complications, 4 knee ankyloses, 2 fixative loosenings, Z infections, 1 nonnunion and 1 post-traumatic arthritis occurred.

The noise generated by the engine propagates into the air and it can be radiated as noise inside the vehicle interior. One of the best ways to reduce the interior noise is to identify noise source. Engine encapsulation has not only reducing the noise but reducing the engine friction on the thermal management of the engine. This paper presents the noise contribution analysis of the engine encapsulation to reduce the interior noise level and analyze the temperature change of engine oil by the engine encapsulation.

A Study to determine the structure-borne noise radiated by a dash panel of a real car is performed by using the finite element method (FEM) and the boundary element method (BEM). The radiation efficiency is used to estimate the structure-borne noise radiated by a dash panel. The stiffening a dash panel changes the radiation efficiency. A proper increasing stiffness can decrease the structure borne noise of a dash panel. Experimental results of radiation efficiency of a dash panel agree with the simulation results.
