        Sequential alterations of glucocorticoid receptors in the hippocampus of STZ-treated type 1 diabetic rats

        Type 1 diabetes is a common metabolic disorder accompaniedby increased blood glucose levels along with glucocorticoid andcognitive deficits. The disease is also thought to be associatedwith environmental changes in brain and constantly inducesoxidative stress in patients. Therefore, glucocorticoid-mediatednegative feedback mechanisms involving the glucocorticoidreceptor (GR) binding site are very important to understand thedevelopment of this disease. Many researchers have usedstreptozotocin (STZ)-treated diabetic animals to study changesin GR expression in the brain. However, few scientists haveevaluated the hyperglycemic period following STZ exposure. Inthe present study, we found GR expression in the hippocampusvaried based on the period after STZ administration for up to 4weeks. We performed immunohistochemistry and Westernblotting to validate the sequential alterations of GR expressionin the hippocampus of STZ-treated type 1 diabetic rats. GRprotein expression increased significantly until week 3 butdecreased at week 4 following STZ administration. GRexpression after 70 mg/kg STZ administration was highest at 3weeks post-treatment and decreased thereafter. AlthoughSTZ-induced increase in GR expression in diabetic animals hasbeen described, our data indicate that researchers shouldconsider the sequential GR expression changes during thehyperglycemic period following STZ exposure.         조선 전기 遷陵의 과정과 정치적 성격

        'Moving The Royal Tombs' Ceremony(遷陵) was noted by reason of a special ritual only in the Joseon Dynasty. And the former studies that indicated its Feng Shui's controversies would seem to be dissimilar to Confucianism as a national policy of the Joseon dynasty. Moreover, its inevitable mobilization of materials and manpower was speculated to be closely connected with the close political conditions. To establish it, this article concretely examine the procedure and scale of the 'Moving The Royal Tombs' Ceremony first by the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty and 'Cheon Bong Do Gam Ui Gui' (<[宣祖穆陵] 천봉도감의궤>). As a result, its Ceremony was proceed with own obvious procedures and characteristics. Especially, its scale and aspect were as good as those of the First Funeral(初葬). Finally, considering its procedure and big scale, it could be drawn from the crucial fact that would not be only proceeded the Feng Shui's controversies. The first real case of 'Moving The Royal Tombs', Jeong Mausoleum Cheon Leung(貞陵 遷陵) was the fact that it and political conditions had intimate relations resulting from the ill-fated relationship between King Taejong and Queen Sindeok. In particular, during the period of Yejong(Young Mausoleum, 英陵)․JungJong(So Mausoleum․Hui Mausoleum, 昭陵․禧陵)․Myeongjong (Jong Mausoleum, 靖陵), it would be worth better noticing. During King Yejong's early days in office, the prime minister of the day, Han Myeong-hoe submit a proposal to move the Yeong Mausoleum to solve the political unrest, so that it had the character of a political solution. And the period of King JungJong, 'Moving The Royal Tombs' of So Mausoleum(昭陵) and Hui Mausoleum was the opportunity of a political reorganization. Specially, in the process of Hui Mausoleum, the political event extracting Kim AnLo by King Jungjong showed the aspect of royal authority. King Myeongjong also proclaimed his powerful authority through its ceremony by carrying out moving Jong Mausoleum to restore the weakened royal power. In conclusion, 'Moving The Royal Tombs' in early Joseon dynasty was the ritual for political change and political reorganization by the powerful political groups. Additionally, it became important events showing regal power and reinforcing royal authority because of a politically sensitive issue with royal family. consequently, its aspect of reinforcing royal authority should be considered even in matters of the 'Moving The Royal Tombs' Ceremony in the lately Joseon Dynasty.

      • Morphology control in Germanium/Carbon Nanostructure anode material for lithium ion battery

        리튬이온전지는 상용화된 이차전지 중 에너지 밀도가 가장 높은 이차전지로서 휴대용의 소형 전지에서부터 전기 자동차나 에너지 저장 시스템 같은 중대형 전지까지 응용 범위가 확대되고 있다. 기존의 리튬이온전지와 비교하여 용량을 늘리고 가격을 낮추기 위해 적합한 양극과 음극의 활물질에 대한 연구가 진행되고 있다. 음극에서 Ge는 높은 이론용량, 에너지밀도와 이온전도를 가져 카본계 물질을 대체할 물질로서 많은 관심을 받고 있다. 그러나 충·방전 과정에서 Li<sup>+</sup> 이온과 합금화 반응을 하여 발생하는 부피변화로 인해 용량이 급격하게 감소하는 한계점이 있다. 이러한 점을 개선하기 위해 본 연구에서는 Ge와 Activated carbon의 복합체를 합성하여 Morphology control을 형성했다. X선 회절 분석(X-ray diffraction, XRD), 주사전자현미경(Scanning electron spectroscopy, SEM) 등의 분석법을 통해 복합체의 구조분석을 진행하여 Ge와 Activated carbon의 복합체의 Morphology를 확인하였다. 또한 복합체 형성으로 인한 전기 화학적 성능 개선을 확인하기 위하여 장기 안정성 테스트와 율속특성 테스트를 이용하여 평가를 진행했다.

        Genetic risk score combining six genetic variants associated with the cellular NRF2 expression levels correlates with Type 2 diabetes in the human population

        Background Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is known as an inflammatory disease. NRF2 (Nuclear Factor Erythroid 2 Like2) encodes a transcription factor that binds to antioxidant response elements (AREs) and regulates the expression of genes involved in many antioxidant responses. Objective This study aimed to gain insight into individual anti-inflammatory activity to prevent T2D development in humans. Methods We performed a genome-wide association study (GWAS) to identify genetic variants influencing NRF2 expression in LCLs (lymphoblastoid cell lines) generated from 74 different individuals. Association analyses between T2D or its related traits and genetic risk score (GRS) calculated by combining genetic variants detected from GWAS for cellular NRF2 expression were performed using data from 8715 subjects. The T2D prediction model using GRS was evaluated by measuring the area under the curve (AUC) of the receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve. Results Our GWAS identified six genetic variants (SNP) showing suggestive evidence of associations with cellular NRF2 expression (P < 10− 6). Logistic regression analysis demonstrated that GRS was associated with an increased risk of T2D (P value = 0.003, OR = 1.13). In addition, linear regression analyses showed positive associations between GRS and fasting glucose (P value = 0.028, β = 0.62), 2-h glucose (P value = 0.0004, β = 1.13) and HbA1C (P value = 0.033, β = 0.03). In the T2D prediction model using GRS, the AUC of the ROC curve was 0.69. Conclusion This study highlights genetic variants associated with cellular NRF2 expression and suggests that the GRS of NRF2 expression-associated variants is likely to be a useful indicator of T2D development in the human population.

      • 전국 농업기상관측망 구축과 농업기상정보 서비스 개발

        This paper introduces the Agrometeorological Network and Information System. Twenty-one Automatic Weather Station (AWS) installed in Regional Agriculture Technology Center (ATC) were integrated into a network system based on the Internet. Also, this system was connected to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) with high speed network for acquisition of data from national weather observation offices. In addition, daily agricultural climate data which had been compiled in 92 ATCs in the past 30 years were computerized into an integrated climate database. Bnsed on this database system, three main information services were developed. These are: a) real-time weather information including current agricultural weather condition at ATC and KHTA office by geographic maps as well as table format, b) climate database with search-ing and comparative analysis menus, and c) climate analysis infermation for farmers, such as greenhouse heat-ing requirement calculator, soil water content calculator, and growing degree days calculator.

        A sinonasal yolk sac tumor in an adult

        Yolk sac tumors (YSTs), which are also called endodermal sinus tumors, are malignant tumors of germ cell origin. These tumors usually occur in the gonads, but 20% of cases have been reported at extragonadal sites. The head and neck is a rarely affected region that accounts for just 1% of all malignant tumors of germ cell origin. In addition, YSTs arise mostly in childhood. We present a rare pathologically pure case of primary adult YST in the sinonasal area. A 45-year-old male patient presented with a rapidly growing mass in the nasal cavity, which caused nasal obstruction and bloody post-nasal drip. The histopathologic features indicated pure YST, and immunohistochemical analysis revealed positive reactivity for Sal-like protein 4 and alpha-fetoprotein. Herein, we discuss the clinical, radiologic, and histologic features of this YST and review other cases of sinonasal YST in adults.
