Dehydrochlorination of polyvinylchloride (PVC) using various metal oxides

The chemical recycling method of polyvinylchloride (PVC), which has been largely being used due to its low cost and excellent physicochemical properties, has been attractive way to produce HCl and useful petrochemicals recently. Compared to the simple incineration of PVC, several environmentally-friendly reaction mediums such as poly ethylene glycol (PEG) and ionic liquid of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([Bmim]Cl) have been largely investigated to enhance the dehydrochlorination activity of PVC with a lower generation of harmful pollutants. In the present study, PEG400 and ionic liquids were used to elucidate the dehydrochloriation activity with the presence metal oxides such as Fe<sub>3</sub>O<sub>4</sub>, CaO, MgO, and CuO and so on. The reaction was carried out in a batch reactor at 130°C for around 3 h in a liquid phase reaction. The dehydrochloriation of PVC with PEG400 medium was found to be around 86% after 3 h reaction, and the effects of metal oxides were also investigated to verify the activity changes.

Purpose: This study investigated the effects of the non-elastic taping method for controlling internal hip joint rotation on internal and external hip rotator muscle activity in healthy people. Methods: In this study, 18 healthy volunteers were instructed to perform the small knee bending (SKB) test. All participants completed the test following two methods (using non-elastic taping and not using taping). Muscle activation during the two methods was measured using a surface electromyography (EMG) device. Surface EMG data were collected from the gluteus medius, gluteus maximus, and tensor fasciae femoris muscles while performing the SKB test with and without non-elastic taping. Results: Muscle activity in the gluteus maximus was significantly higher during the SKB test with non-elastic taping than during the conventional SKB test with taping (p < 0.05). Tensor fasciae latae muscle activity was lower during the SKB test with non-elastic taping than during the conventional SKB test (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The findings suggest that the non-elastic taping method for controlling internal hip joint rotation effectively activates the hip's external rotator muscles and minimizes unwanted internal rotator muscle use during the SKB test. Therefore, the non-elastic taping method for controlling internal hip joint rotation could be an effective intervention for those who cannot control the internal rotation of their hips.

일상생활에서 애용되고 있는 감자는 조리 시 껍질이 거의 폐기되고 있는 점을 감안하여, 폐기 농산물의 재활용의 측면에서 감자껍질(Solanum tuberosum Peel)을 수거하여 추출, 분획한 후 항균 및 항발암 효과를 살펴보았다. 항균성 검사로는 5가지의 균주에 대한 감자껍질의 분획물의 농도별 항균활성을 측정한 결과, 전반적으로 SPMEE에서 가장 큰 항균력을 보였으며, 특히 Pseudomonas aeruginosa 균주에서는 앞서 4가지 균에서는 활성이 없던 수층인 SPMA에서 항균활성이 크게 나타났다. 감자껍질의 암세포 증식억제 효과를 MTT assay로 실험한 결과, 3종류의 암세포 HepG2, HeLa 및 MCF-7 세포주에서 모두 ethylether 분획층인 SPMEE층에서 암세포 증식억제 효과가 크게 나타났으며 특히 MCF-7의 경우는 저농도 첨가 시부터 SPMB층에서 높은 억제효과를 보였다. 또 HepG2세포를 이용한 감자껍질의 분획물의 암예방 QR 유도 활성효과를 본 결과, butanol 분획층인 SPMB에서 괄목할 만큼 높은 QR 유도 활성이 증가되었다. 본 실험 결과, 감자껍질에는 전반적으로 SPMEE층에서 높은 항균성을 보여 항균제로서의 개발가능성이 충분히 엿보이며, 나아가 암세포 증식억제효과도 SPMEE층에서 아주 컸다. SPMB와 SPMEA층에서도 그 효과가 돋보인다. 암을 예방하는 inducer는 SPMB층에 많이 존재하는 것으로 사료되며 이와 같은 연구결과를 기초로 하여 폐기 감자껍질을 이용한 단계적인 생리활성 물질의 분리 동정이 계속 이루어져 폐기식품 활용 및 건강 대체 식품개발의 연구 대상으로서 기대가 되는 바이다. This study was performed to determine the anticarcinogenic activity of the Solanum tuberosum Peel (SP) on several microorganisms and human cancer cell lines. Among the various solvent fractions of SP, the ethylether partition layer (SPMEE) showed the strongest antimicrobial activity, ethylacetate partition layer (SPMEA) and butanol partition layer (SPMB) resulted in good antimicrobial activity. We also determined the effect of SP extract and fractions on cytotoxicity, and chemopreventive effect on human cancer cells. The experiment was conducted to determine cytotoxicity of SP partition layers on HepG2, HeLa and MCF-7 cells by MTT assay. Among the various partition layers of SP, SPMEE and SPMB were showed the strongest cytotoxic effects on all cancer cell lines. The quinone reductase induced activities of HepG2 cell, the butanol partition layer (SPMB) at a does of 40 μg/mL was 8.49 times more effective compared to the control value of 1.0. This value was significantly higher than that of previous results using the other materials. Therefore, based on these studies, SP may be developed into a potentially useful antimicrobial and anticarcinogenic agents.
고들빼기 에타놀 추출물이 인지질막 유동성에 미치는 영향

Liposomes have been widely employed as biomemtrane-mimetic system and drug delivery system. The effects of various drugs on the fluidity of liposomes were investigated. In this study, the effects of Ixeris sonchifolia H.(IS) which is used for food material on the fluidity of dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine(DPPC) liposome were measured with differential scanning calorimetry(DSC). The thermograms of the DPPC liposomal bilayers incorporated with the Ixeris sonchifolia H. were obtained, and the enthalpy changes and the sizes of cooperative unit of the transition were calcurated. The results showed that incorporation of the Ixeris sonchifolia H. into the liposomal bilayers effectively reduced the transition temperature at which the transition from gel state to liquid-crystalline state occurs, broadened the thermogram peaks, and reduced the ratio of Van't Hoff to calorimetric enthalpies. These results indicate that the Ixeris sonchifolia H. might have significant effects on the fluidity of biological membranes.
쑥 추출성분의 암세포 증식억제와 Quinone reductase 유도 활성 효과

In this study, Artemisia princeps var. orientalis(AP), the Compositae species, were extracted using methanol(APM) and the extracts was fractionated to five different types which are hexane(APMH), ethylether(APMEE), ethylacetate(APMEA), butanol(APMB) and aqueous(APMA) partition layers. The various partition layers were screened far the cytotoxic effects on HepG2, MCF-7 and C6 cells by MTT assay and for their ability induce quinone reductase(QR) in HepG2 cells. Compared with the other partition layers of AP, the APMEE showed the strongest cytotoxic effects on HepG2, MCF-7 and C6 cells. The quinone reductase(QR) induced activity in HepG2 cells, grown in the presence of APMEE and APMH, were 5.08 and 2.99 times more effective compared with the control value of 1.0 respectively. Therefore, based on these results, the ethylether partition layer(APMEE) of the Artemisia princeps var. orientalis may have that potentially useful cancer chemoprevention effect on the human cancer cells, HepG2, MCF-7 and C6.
