        Effect of Undercorrection on Visual Functioning Using Spectacle Lens and Multifocal Contact Lens in Young Adults

        Purpose : To investigate the effect of using multifocal soft contact lens on visual functioning compared to other vision correction methods, such as no correction, undercorrection with +1.00 D spectacle lens. Methods : Seventeen individuals were recruited to participate in this study. The age range of the 17 participants (mean age of 23.6±2.1 years) who have less than sphere refractive error within the range of ±1.00 D with less than -0.75 D of astigmatism. Repeated measurements were performed using three different correction options; no correction (NC), correction using multifocal contact lenses (CM) with a plano power for distance and addition up to +1.00 D and undercorrection using +1.00 D spectacle lens(UL). Distance visual acuity with high contrast (100%) and low contrast (10%) vision chart, and distance contrast sensitivity, and near visual acuity were measured. Results : The type of vision correction had a significant effect on distance visual acuity measured with the high and low contrast vision chart (p<0.01). There was no significant difference in near visual acuity among the correction types (p=0.34), the type of vision correction worn had a significant effect on distance contrast vision chart (p=0.01). Conclusion : Multifocal contact lens did not alter the best corrected visual acuity and contrast sensitivity and maintain good overall visual functioning that are comparable to no correction. Therefore, using this center near multifocal contact lens in young adults can provide the high quality visual acuity for distance and near and relieve the accommodative burdens on near tasks.

        2007년 3월 서울 황사 사례의 PM<sub>10</sub> 이온조성과 반응성 기체 특성

        Asian dust evens took place in Seoul on 27~28 March and 31 March~1 April 2007, during which the mass and chemical compositions of $PM_{10}$ were measured at urban area in Seoul, Korea. In conjunction with $PM_{10}$ compositions, the behaviors of gas precursors such as CO, $O_3$, $SO_2$, and $NO_2$ and meteorological parameters and air mass trajectories were thoroughly examined. The earlier case was a weak dust incidence which was characterized by elevated concentrations of CO, $SO_2$ and $NO_2$ as well as secondary aerosols. In contrast, the later showed the trait of the dust aerosols associated with high $PM_{10}$ mass and $Ca^{2+}$ concentrations. In general, the fractions of ionic species against mass decreased with increase in dust loading. The ratios of ${SO_4}^{2-}$ to ${NO_3}^-$ and $SO_2$ to $NO_2$ were similar in temporal variations, suggesting the concentrations of secondary aerosols were sensitive to the level of precursor gases. In this study, $Na^+$ and $Cl^-$ were also highly elevated during the heavy dust episode, which is thought to have originated from alkaline soils spreading through the northeast regions of China.

        안경광학적 방법을 통한 근시 진행 완화 효과에 대한 최근 연구동향

        Purpose : To review latest knowledge regarding myopia control using the optical interventions which can be managed in optometric practice in Korea. Methods : Keyword "Myopia control" was used to search relevant researches. Among the searched data, the only researched results regarding Ortho-K, RGP lens, multifocal contact lens, Progressive addition lens, Peripheral myopic defocus lenses were included. Results : From 2002 to 2011, 1,135 researches were found and 2,441 results were found during 2012 to 2021. Out of these searched data, main 67 researches were included for this review. Researches showed that Ortho-K had slower myopia progression by 44%, Multifocal contact lenses by 43%, PAL 18%, and peripheral myopic defocus lenses by 59% respectively. Conclusion : With advance in optical design, optometric practitioners in Korea have more options to recommend for myopia control. Therefore, optometric practitioners need more active role not only for myopia correction, but also myopia management in long term. 목적 : 국내 안경사의 업무영역에 포함되는 안경광학적 방법을 통한 근시 진행 완화 효과에 대한 최근의 연구동향을 정리하고자 한다. 방법 : Pubmed에서 Myopia Control(근시 진행 완화)라는 키워드 검색을 통해 도출된 연구 문헌을 정리하고, 특히 안경광학적 방법인 Ortho-K, RGP렌즈, 멀티포컬 콘택트렌즈, 누진다초점 렌즈 그리고 (주변부)근시성 흐 림유도 렌즈에 대한 문헌을 검색 정리하였다. 결과 : 2002~2011년에는 1,135건(25%), 2012~2021년에는 발간된 학술자료는 2,441건(54%)으로 조회되었 으며, 이중에서 임상연구 및 안경광학적 방법에 관련된 문헌 67건을 본 연구에 사용하였다. Ortho-K렌즈는 44%, 멀티포컬콘택트렌즈는 43%, 누진다초점안경렌즈는 19%, 주변부근시성 흐림유도 렌즈는 59%의 효과가 보 고되었다. 결론 : 광학적 설계의 발전으로 안경사가 근시 진행 완화에 대해서 추천할 수 있는 선택권이 점진적으로 많아 지고 있다. 따라서 안보건 전문가로서 국내 안경사가 근시교정뿐 아닌 장기적 측면에서의 근시 관리 전문가로서의 적극적인 역할이 필요할 것이다

        휴대용전자확대경과 광학확대경의 근거리 사물 인식 실효성 평가

        Purpose: To compare the time between optical magnifier and portable electronic magnifier to identify the necessary information on near object. Methods: 15 participants were asked to perform timed tasks of viewing bills and photographs to find the certain information. There were three visual impairment conditions, reduced visual acuity, cataract and constriction in visual field. Under three vision conditions, times to recognize the near object was measured. Results: Participants were aged 21 to 26 (mean age 22.73±1.28) and 9 males and 6 females. First of all, there was no significant difference between optical magnifier and portable electronic magnifier on the task of viewing near object and photograph. When comparing among the vision conditions, constriction in visual field spent significantly more time completing the task than vision conditions of reduced visual acuity and cataract. Conclusions: Overall, optical magnifier showed similar performance compared to the portable electronic magnifier on the task of viewing near object and photograph. Constriction in visual field required more time to complete the near vision task. Therefore, it would be recommended to prescribe a certain optical aid which can expand the visual field for enhancement of reading performance. 목 적: 시각손상을 유발하였을 시, 광학 확대경과 휴대용 전자확대경을 사용시 근거리 사물을 인식하는데 걸리는 시간에 대해서 평가하고자 한다. 방 법: 15명의 참여자에게 영수증 내에 있는 여러 가지 정보와 사진의 정보를 파악하는데 걸리는 시간을 측정하였다. 3가지 시각 손상 조건을 구현하였으며, 이는 시력저하, 백내장 그리고 시야협착이었다. 이런 시각 손상 조건하에서 광학확대경과 전자확대경에 대한 사물인식 시간을 측정하였다. 결 과: 본 연구에 참여한 참여자는 21세부터 26세로 평균나이는 22.73±1.28이다 근거리 정보를 인식과 사진의 정보를 파악하는데 걸린 시간은 광학확대경과 휴대용 확대경간 유의한 차이가 없었다. 시각 손상 조건을 서로 비교하였을 때, 시력저하 조건과 백내장 조건은 유의한 차이가 없었으나, 시력저하와 시야협착 그리고 백내장 조건과 시야협착 조건간에는 유의한 차이를 보였다. 결 론: 근거리 사물의 정보를 인식하는데 있어서, 광학 확대경과 휴대용 전자확대경은 비슷한 정도의 효율성을 보여주었다. 하지만 시야협착이 있는 경우에는 다른 시야 손상에 비해 정보인식 시간이 다소 오래 걸렸다. 따라서, 시야협착이 있는 경우에는 시야 확장에 도움이 되는 보조기기의 처방을 통하여, 읽기 능력 향상을 도와주는것을 고려하여야 할 것이다.

        자연과의 소통적 관점에서 본 타운하우스에서 거주자 치유를 위한 계획방법

        The purpose of this study is to analyze the expression method according to the planning of townhouse and the healing method that affects residents for communicating with natural environment, in order to propose resident-focused communication with nature for healing. The results are as follows. First, the expression of nature elements can be divided into ‘direct’ and ‘indirect’ and healing effects through nature can be divided into ‘body’ and ‘psychology’. The healing method of residents through nature was classified into physical and psychological healing through openness, familiarity, comfort, and stability. Second, as an expression method according to townhouse planning, the arrangement plan induced active communication with nature through the arrangement according to topography and a common garden. In terms of construction plan, a bigger window or door than that of other residential spaces was installed on a wall, ceiling or opening to directly bring the nature of outside visually for more communication. Third, with regard to healing methods of townhouse, ‘openness’ which reduces depression and increases self-esteem, expands the view of residents. ‘Familiarity’, the healing method that can relieve the fatigue of eyes and bring psychological warmth and comfort, makes us feel familiar through the pattern and texture of woods and stones that are natural materials. ‘Comfort’ which heals residents by creating an outside space and bringing the nature elements through a huge window can provide psychological healing such as eased tension in daily life as well as physical healing such as vitamin D synthesis and the recovery of physiological function. Also, ‘Stability’ gives a comfortable feeling by applying the colors of finishing materials inside or seeing the colors of surrounding nature as it is through big windows. Finally, in order to support the results of this study more objectively, a follow-up study conducting a survey on the residents of townhouse is needed. 본 연구는 자연환경과 소통하기 위하여 타운하우스의 계획요소에 따른 표현방법과 거주자에게 영향을 주는 치유방법을 분석하여 타운하우스에서 거주자 중심의 치유적 자연 소통 방법을 제안하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 선행연구를 통하여 자연요소 표현방법은 ‘직접’과 ‘간접’으로 분류하고, 자연을 통한 치유효과는 ‘신체’와 ‘심리’로 나눌 수 있다. 자연을 통한 거주자의 치유방법은 개방성, 친근성, 쾌적성 그리고 안정성을 통한 신체·심리적 치유로 분류하였다. 둘째, 타운하우스의 치유방법으로 우울증 감소와 자존감 증가를 치유할 수 있는 ‘개방성’은 거주자의 시야를 확장하여 트인 느낌을 주고, 눈의 피로해소와 심리적인 따뜻함과 편안함 등을 유도할 수 있는 치유 방법인 ‘친근성’은 자연재료인 목재와 석재의 패턴과 질감을 통해 익숙하고 친근하게 느끼도록 한다. 외부공간 조성, 큰 창을 통해 내부로 자연요소를 도입하는 방법을 통해 치유하는 ‘쾌적성’은 신체 생리기능 회복, 비타민 D의 합성 등의 신체적 치유와 일상생활의 긴장완화 등의 심리적인 치유를 할 수 있다. ‘안정성’은 큰 창을 통해 주변의 자연의 색을 그대로 보거나 내부의 마감재 색으로 적용하여 편안함을 느끼도록 하였다. 셋째, 타운하우스의 계획요소에 따른 표현방법으로 배치계획에서는 지형에 순응하는 배치와 외부공간에 공동정원의 배치를 통해 적극적으로 자연과의 소통을 유도하였고, 건축계획에서는 벽이나 개구부 또는 천장에서 타 주거공간에 비해 큰 창이나 문의 설치를 통해 외부의 자연을 시각적으로 직접 끌어들이는 방법으로 소통을 유도하였다. 마지막으로 본 연구의 결과를 보다 객관적으로 뒷받침할 수 있도록 추후 타운하우스의 거주자를 대상으로 설문조사를 실시한 후속 연구가 필요하다.

        EphB/ephrinB Signaling in Cell Adhesion and Migration

        Eph receptors and their ligands, ephrins, represent the largest group of the receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) family, and they mediate numerous developmental processes in a variety of organisms. Ephrins are membrane-bound proteins that are mainly divided into two classes: A class ephrins, which are linked to the membrane by a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) linkage, and B class ephrins, which are transmembrane ligands. Based on their domain structures and affinities for ligand binding, the Eph receptors are also divided into two groups. Trans-dimerization of Eph receptors with their membrane-tethered ligands regulates cell-cell interactions and initiates bidirectional signaling pathways. These pathways are intimately involved in regulating cytoskeleton dynamics, cell migration, and alterations in cellular dynamics and shapes. The EphBs and ephrinBs are specifically localized and modified to promote higher-order clustering and initiate of bidirectional signaling. In this review, we present an in-depth overview of the structure, mechanisms, cell signaling, and functions of EphB/ephrinB in cell adhesion and migration.
