The author selected 77 dust emissing processes from 71 types of industries which placed in Sasang Industrial Complex in Pusan. The level of total dust was measured as areal concentration and personal exposure concentration by low volume air sampler and personal air sampler, respectively. Collected samples were classified into 5 groups (chemicals and rubber product, metal product, sawmills and wood, foundries and others). Respirable particulate and total dust of areal and personal exposure were analyzed. The results were as follows; 1. All of the respirable dust concentration and total dust of areal and personal concentration were log-normally distributed. 2. Geometric mean of respirable particulate of personal exposure concentration measured $0.55mg/m^3$ in the first group, $0.86mg/m^3$ in the second group, $0.39mg/m^3$ in the third group, $0.81mg/m^3$ in the forth group and $0.52mg/m^3$ in the fifith group. The exceed rates over TLV (thehold limit values) of total dust were 31.3% in the first group, 31.3% in the second group, 70% in the third group, 80% in the forth group and 13.3% in the fifth group. 3. There were singnificant difference between areal and personal exposure concentration and personal exposure concentration was higher than that of area. 4. In the case of high ratio of respirable particulate to total dust, pneumoconiosis incidence was high even though the workshop was opened and emissing dust concentration was low. These findings suggest that it is desirable to measure respirable particulate in environmental assessment of dust emissing workshops.

Gender difference in the incidence of colorectal cancer is well known and has been supported by various epidemiologic studies. In Korea, women have lower incidence of colorectal cancer and adenoma, and the incidence in men has recently increased. Hormone replacement therapy in menopausal women is preventive of colorectal cancer but can cause cardiovascular diseases and breast cancer. Estrogen exerts diverse effects through estrogen receptors, ERα and ERβ. ERβ is associated with anti-proliferation and apoptosis. The ratio of ERα/ERβ is important in the protection and tumorigenesis of colorectal cancer. Therefore ERβ modulation has been investigated for preventing or treating colorectal cancer and avoiding adverse effects of estrogen at the same time. In addition, the gender-difference in the incidence of colorectal cancer should be taken into account when making guidelines on colorectal surveillance for Korean population.

Purpose : This study was to determine the effect of core stability exercise on balance and energy consumption during walk in stroke patients. Method : This study used a single subject research design. The subjects were participated two stroke patients and received general rehabilitation therapy five times per week. The core stability exercise program was modified from preceding studies and composed of trunk muscle strengthening exercise. The balance of was evaluated by Timed Up and Go Test (TUG), the energy consumption was measured by the energy expenditure index (EEI) as the difference of heart rate, in a session. Result : The results of the evaluation in each subject were indicated that the balance test was improved, energy expenditure index were decreased during the intervention period. These effects were maintained even during the regression baseline period. Conclusion : These results showed that core stability exercise was effective in the improvement of balance and decrease energy consumption. This study suggests that core stability exercise is effective in the improvement of energy efficiency during walk in stroke patients.

In recent years, Korean economy which has boasted of its miracluous growth for the last two decades, has confronted with unsurmountable tidal wave of economic crash since the Korea War in the early 1950s. In order to survive, Korea has requested substantial amount of money from the International Monatory Fund. The impact from this unexpected economic disaster is felt in every comer and cranny of our society. Every institutions including major corporations are busy with restructuring, downsizing and reengineering, First and formost, major firms become mean and lean. Many of them are interested in keeping in shape by laying off their staff in spade. In light of this background, the authors try to find the strategic utilization of contingent work force in the food service establishments in the Seoul area. The study, first of its kind in the field of restaurants in Korea, aims at delving into the theoretic aspects of the notion of contingent workers from the review of literature in other fields. And then equipped with the theoretical background, the aurthors try to examine the current status of the contingent work force in the restaurants. To do this, the researchers use a set of questionnaires to find out the hypotheses formulated for this study. Although there are some limitation in this study, the authors have come up with the following major findings. First, most of the restaurants are using contingent workers without any tactical or strategic labor plans in mind. Secondly, most of the restaurants are not systematic in hiring, training, staffing the contingent employees. Thirdly, many of restaurants considers the utilizing these workers from the economic viewpoints although they know the restaurant business is $quot;people`s business$quot;. The implication for these findings are: 1) Those engaged in the restaurant business, one of major hospitality industry, first of all, should understand the nature of business in which they are and have to approach the issue of contingent work force systematically. 2) With regards to the fringe benefits, most of the employees hire in this category are not entitled to them, thus demoralizing them, which leads them to an assorted of problems such as low productivity, absenteeism, and turnover etc. 3) As to the positive aspects, the restaurant owners/managers can manage the ever-increasing labor cost if they have the proper system in place. With respect to employees, they can make the most of their time by working part-time such as going to school or taking care of their children. 4) In regards to the relationship between the management and the labor in a large restaurant firm, there must be new rules and regulations with respect to hiring, staffing and placing the contingent workers. The aurthors try to shed a light on the nature and magnitude of the contingent work force in the food service establishments. It is recommended that the studies should be directed at more segmented restaurant markets such as fast food, family restaurant or deluxe/upscale full-service eateries in the future.

Purpose This study was to determine the effect of trunk training exercise on dynamic balance and energy expenditure during walk in chronic stroke patients. Methods This study used a single subject research design. Two chronic stroke patients were participated and received general training five times per week. The trunk training exercise program was modified from preceding studies and composed of trunk muscle strengthening and selective and coordinated movement. The subjects performed exercise program five times a week, forty minute a day, four weeks. Pre base line(A) was only collected participant information without intervention in 5 times. Trunk training exercise(B) was carried out 10 times and 5 times to base lime(A) after intervention. The dynamic balance of was evaluated by Timed Up and Go Test(TUG), the energy consumption was measured by the oxygen cost as the oxygen consumption per unit distance, energy expenditure index(EEI) as the difference of heart rate, in a session. Results The results of the evaluation in each subject were indicated that the dynamic balance test was improved, both oxygen cost and energy expenditure index were decreased during the intervention period. These effects were maintained even during the regression baseline period. Conclusion These results showed that trunk training exercise was effective in the improvement of dynamic balance and decrease energy consumption. This study suggests that trunk training exercise is effective in the improvement of energy efficiency during walk in chronic stroke patients.
