용액상태나 고체상으로 배출되는 중금속의 처리방법으로는 침전, 이온교환, 막분리, 용매추출, 흡착, 증발 등이 있다. 그러나 이러한 재래식 공정은 대부분이 전처리가 필요하고 2차오염이 발생한 뿐만 아니라 용액중의 중금속의 농도가 1~100m/L정도로 낮게 함유되어 있을 경우에는 비효율적이거나 비용이 비싼 단점이 있다. 그러므로 이러한 재래식 공정이 가지고 있는 단점을 보완하고 또한 경제적으로 유리한 생물흡착공정(biosorption process)이 대안으로 제시되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 상 ·하폐수 중에 존재하는 중금속 제거용 생물흡착제(biomass)를 개발하는데 중점을 두었으며, 생물흡착제로 해조류인 L. japonica를 사용하여 연속 중금속제거 실험을 수행하였다. Sedimentation, ion exchange, RO(reverse osmosis), extraction, adsorption, evaporation are generally used to remove heavy metals effluent from wastewater. This processes need to have pre-treatment or after-treatment and may be ineffective or extremely expensive, especially when the concentration of heavy metals in solution are about 1~100mg/L. Biosorption process have lots of advantages in operating conditions and economical aspects and it is about to step into practical use in advanced states. In this study, the effect of heavy metals on human body and advantage or disadvantage of conventional technology for removal of heavy metals were reviewed, and biosorption process which have been deep studied recently was also investigated briefly.

Observation of microorganisms collected from contaminated soils has been mainly conducted by using microscopy. Microscopic measurement is occupied an important part of the microorganism experiment, and is used as an important tool to count microorganisms as well as to observe cellular form and mode of life in the field of soil microbe observation. In general, observation equipments for soil microbes consist of electron microscope, camera, frame grabber (image acquisition baud), and image analysis software. Because image analysis software should be linked with frame grabber most equipments have to be imported as the package form. Therefore, the observation system is very expensive and difficult to be operated. In this study, soil microbes' observation equipment with the vision system which is easy operated and cheaper than imported one was developed and tested. The efficiency of image capturing and data aquisition with developed frame grabber and software in this experiment was good enough to analyze the image of soil microorganism.
