This study is concerned with the equilibrium bidding strategy and the optimal auction design of sequential auction with a reserve price and an entry fee. It is assumed that each bidder has a fixed reservation value and draws the reservation values of other bidders independently in the same distribution and may obtain at most one object to be sold. Under such assumptions, the sequential auction will be analyzed by the game theoretic approach. The purpose of this paper is, in the sequential auction, to find the equilibrium bidding strategy and to design the optimal auction under the equilibrium bidding strategy. The equilibrium bidding strategy and the optimal auction design are further analyzed with respect to change of the reserve price, the entry fee, and the number of bidders and objects. Specially, the auctioneer's expected revenue for each auction is obtained and analyzed.

We have developed a software, named EVALO(EVolutionary ALgorithms for Optimization) to facilitate solving the optimization problems with evolutionary algorithms (EA). EVALO consists of two parts, one for simple EAs operating on a single population and the other for coevolutionary algorithms (CEA) operating on two or more populations. So far, we have finished a software for simple EAs and cooperative CEA. In this paper, we add a part for competitive CEA and complete the software. The software adopts an object-oriented method using UML(Unified Modeling Language) for facilitation and extensibility of users. To add and operate the program for competitive CEA, library, user interface, main frame, application interface are complemented. In addition, some types of competition strategies and partner selection methods for competition are provided. Experimental results are reported to verify the applicability of the developed software.

There are tasks performed on only one side(right side or left side) of the assembly line, and task groups in which the tasks are more related to one another like a subassembly. In the Assembly Line Balancing(ALB) of the large-sized product such as bus and truck, the side on which tasks are performed and the related task groups should be considered to improve work methods and to appropriately lay out parts and facilities in the line. In this paper, presented are the 0-1 programming formulations for the ALB with the constraints of assigning the same side tasks to the station. The objective of minimizing the number of stations is combined with the objective that the total number of the related task groups handled by all the stations is minimized. Also, proposed are the methods of reducing the number of variables and constraints, and of determining the station to which subassembly tasks are assigned.

This paper deals with the process planning of flexible manufacturing systems (FMS) with various flexibilities and multiple objectives. The consideration of the manufacturing flexibility is crucial for the efficient utilization of FMS. The machine, tool, sequence, and process flexibilities are considered in this research. The flexibilities cause to increase the problem complexity. To solve the process planning problem, in this paper an evolutionary algorithm is used as a methodology. The algorithm is named multiobjective competitive evolutionary algorithm (MOCEA), which is developed in this research. The feature of MOCEA is the incorporation of competitive coevolution in the existing multiobjective evolutionary algorithm. In MOCEA competitive coevolution plays a role to encourage population diversity. This results in the improvement of solution quality and, that is, leads to find diverse and good solutions. Good solutions means near or true Pareto optimal solutions. To verify the performance of MOCEA, the extensive experiments are performed with various test-bed problems that have distinct levels of variations in the four kinds of flexibilities. The experiments reveal that MOCEA is a promising approach to the multiobjective process planning of FMS.

The traditional theories of games are based on an assumption that the payoffs have a single dimension. In reality, any alternative is likely to imply more than one payoff. This paper deals with the game against nature with vector payoffs. The purpose of this paper is to develop methods for finding the practical optimal strategy in the game against nature with vector payoffs. Under the assumption that a prior probability over the stats of nature is given, this paper shows that a practical optimal strategy in this game can be obtained by applying a entropy method in order to assess the payoff weight and by employing the concept of compromise solutions in order to reduce the non-dominated solutions. When subjective payoff weights are unknown as well as known, these methods can be used. A numerical example is given.

Bimatrix games are the two-person non-zero-sum non-cooperative games. These games were studied by Mills, Lemke, Howson, Millham, Winkels, and others. This paper is a systematic and synthetic survey relevant to bimatrix games. Among the many aspects of researches on bimatrix games, emphasis in this paper is placed on the relation of the equilibrium set to Nash subsets. Topics discussed are as follows: Properties of equilibrium point; The structure of equilibrium set; Relation of Nash subsets to equilibrium set; Algorithm for finding the equilibrium points; Concepts of solutions on bimatrix games.
