        The mathematical capability is critical especially for the science and engineering major students to be successful in their academic life in a university. However, there has been recently marked decline in the mathematical ability of the students majoring in the science and engineering in a university. In order to propose the methods to improve their ability in a college level of mathematics, we have investigated and analyzed the mathematical ability of the freshmen in calculus classes whose major are the science and engineering in Kyung Hee University, corresponding to the university entrance examination and curriculums of the middle and high school. Calculus is one of required classes for the freshmen in the science and engineering major and also one of the most important classes in mathematics. Therefore, we hope that these assessment in their mathematical ability focused on calculus can suggest a helpful insight for the improvement of general mathematical ability in the science and engineering majors.

        17세기에 Leibnitz 와 Newton에 의해 미분 적분학이 체계화 된 이후로 해석학은 자연 과학과 사회 과학 두 분야 모두에 걸쳐 매우 빠르고 광범위하게 발전해 왔다. 그리고 오늘날 미분 적분학의 기본 개념이 고등학교 과저에서도 매우 중요하게 다루어지고 있다. 그러므로 고등학교 수학교사들은 미분 적분학의 기본 개념을 완벽하게 이해하고 있어야만 할 것이다. 수학 교사의 미분적분학에 대한 이해를 더욱 확고하게 하기 위해 본 논문은 고등학교 수학에서 다루는 실변수 실가함수의 미분에서 그 대상을 더욱 확장하여 다변수 벡터가함수의 미분을 체계적으로 정리하고, 실변수 실가함수의 미분과의 관계를 고찰하였다. 주로 이 논문에서는 미분법의 대상이 되는 함수를 더욱 확장하여 다루고 고등학교에서 다루는 1변수 실가함수의 미분법 및 다변수 벡터가함수의 미분법 등과의 관계를 고찰하여 미분을 응용하여 함수의 몇 가지 성질을 조사하였다. After calculus of differentiation and integration was organized systematically by Leibnitz and Newton in 17th century, analysis including calculus has been developed very rapidly and applied widely in both basic concepts of calculus are taught importantly in high school mathematics. Therefore, high school mathematics teachers have to understand basic concepts of calculus well. To reinforce math teachers' understanding of calculus this paper extends differentiation of real functions to that of vector -valued functions of several variables, and provides some properties and applications of differentiation of vector-valued functions of several variables. Mainly with differentiations of the several variable functions, this paper deals more extended various functions with differentiation, and investigates some relationships between differentiations of real functions in high school mathematics and vector-valued functions of several variables in elementary calculus.

        We emphasize in this paper historical development of mathematical concepts in teaching calculus. In this point of view, calculus has to be taught in a way compatible to its development based on its origin, thereby one can expect the future development of concepts in mathematics. 이 논문에서는 미분적분학을 가르칠 때에 있어서 수학적인 개념의 발달사를 강조하고 있다. 이러한 관점에서, 미분적분학은 그것의 기원에 기초한 발달사와 관련지어 가르쳐져야 하고, 그리하여 우리는 수학에서 미래의 개념에 대한 발달을 예측할 수 있다.

      • 시간자 미분적분학에서의 평균값 정리

        Hilger[4] introduces the notion of time scale and developed the calculus on time scales. Thus he unified the continuous and the discrete calculus. In this paper we investigate some basic notions on time scales and examine the Mean Value Theorem in calculus on time scales. We investigated the electrical injection of spin-polarized electrons into a semiconductor [GaAs] hetero-structure from ferromagnetic materials (Ni_(0.8)Fe_(0.2)/Co_(0.9)Fe_(0.1)) through an AIO_(x) tunneling barrier. We made use an optical method for quantitative analysis of electrical spin injection into semiconductors. We measured the circular polarization of electroluminescence within semiconductor under external magnetic field, when spin polarized electrons have been injected. We observed successful spin light emitting diode operation using oxide tunneling barriers between ferromagnetic materials (Ni_(0.8)Fe_(0.2)/Co_(0.9)Fe_(0.1)) and semiconductors (GaAs). Above which the electroluminescence (EL) became too weak to accurately measure spin polarization. At or below 15 K, bound excitonic transitions were dominant and their circular polarization was very significantly less, indicating that the spin flip of electrons are involved during the binding process with impurities.

      • 부분적분의 효율적인 지도방안 연구

        There three main foci of this paper to propose a method using maps as a problem-solving strategy for integration by parts. Secondly, the difference between the problem-solving method using maps and that of the current curriculum is examined. Thirdly, the problem-solving powers of the two methods are investigated according to the difficulty levels. The participants for this study were ten third-year high school students in Gumi area. The experiment results were verified by the paired comparison method. As a result, the problem-solving power of the map method was stronger than that of the current curriculum method. In the case of dealing with the questions at intermediate difficulty level, the map method was much more effective than the current curriculum method. Therefore, the problem-solving method using maps turned out to have more powerful problem-solving tool than the method of the current curriculum.

      • Stokes' theorems in advanced calculus

        We explicitly show that Green's, Gauss's, and Stokes' theorems in advanced calculus are indeed corollaries of the Stokes' theorem on manifolds. To understand Stokes' theorem on manifolds properly we survey first of all manifold theory itself which starts from the definition of smooth manifold, and develops such notions as tangent vector space, smooth vector bundle, exterior derivative, manifold with boundary, Riemannian metric, orientation, induced orientation, integration of forms etc.. We also need to interpret such notions as line integral, surface integral, divergence and curl which concern the vector field into the concepts such as integrations of forms and exterior derivatives which concern the forms. With these preparations we derive the Stokes' theorems in advanced calculus from the Stokes' theorem on manifolds.

There are a little items and estimation index related to potential ability and scholastic achievement of Mathematic. In this point of a view, studied the Admission Officer System of domestic and foreign universities. Moreover analyzed the test of Calculus1 and the basic tests of mathematics, carried out in Kyung Hee University from 2008 through 2010. Finally suggest the effective way for the selectee of Mathematic talented and well educated students by Admission Officer System.
