뉴스 빅데이터를 활용한 대학의 국제화 담론 분석 : 토픽 모델링 분석기법을 중심으로

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study identified the main keywords and topics of university internationalization by period using news big data related to university internationalization. Accordingly, the main agenda and implications of university internationalization were to be derived. The following results were obtained by analyzing 1,217 news reported from May 31, 1995 to December 31, 2019 by dividing it into three periods and analyzing it with a topic modeling (LDA) technique. As a result, the discourse on internationalization at the university showed passive characteristics, even though it was fully aware of the importance of internationalization in terms of universities and was taking the lead at the national level. In addition, it was found that the direction of university education was lost in that the efforts and achievements of members of educational institutions were replaced and evaluated by quantitative indicators. Subsequently, while pointing out the drawback that the educational paradigm being implemented to strengthen internationalization capabilities relies on international students, the main focus was on establishing a new educational paradigm and creating a new wave for university internationalization.
Finally, the quantitative evaluation of internationalization indicators was criticized. Accordingly, there was a magnetic position on the fact that the university's internationalization development process was replaced by instrumental means based on 'Neoliberalism'. Based on these results, this study suggests that it is necessary to establish higher education education policies related to internationalization of universities. Also, the social consensus on the definition and thinking of university internationalization was examined as a related discourse. Through this, I would like to express the need for efforts to respond to the rapidly changing social environment and find a direction for university education that meets future expectations.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 대학 국제화 관련 뉴스 빅데이터를 활용하여 시기별 대학 국제화의 주요 키워드 및 토픽을 파악하였다. 이에 대학 국제화의 주요 의제와 시사점을 도출하고자 하였으며 이를 위해 1995년 5월 31일부터 2019년 12월 31일까지 보도된 1,217건의 뉴스를 3개 시기로 구분하여 토픽 모형화(LDA) 기법으로 분석함으로써, 다음과 같은 결과를 도출하였다. 대학 측면에서 국제화에 관한 중요성을 충분히 인지하고 있음과 동시에, 국가 차원에서도 대학 국제화를 지원 및 권장하고 있음에도 불구하고 대학 국제화에 관한 토픽의 주제는 수동적인 특징을 보였다. 더불어 교육기관 구성원들의 노력과 성과가 양적 지표로 치환되어 평가된다는 점에서 대학 교육의 방향성을 상실했음을 알 수 있었다. 이어서, 국제화 역량 강화를 위해 실행 중인 대학 교육의 패러다임이 외국인 유학생에 관련된 내용이 다수를 차지하고 있다는 결점을 지적함과 동시에 이를 해결하려는 방안으로, 새로운 교육 패러다임의 구축과 대학 국제화의 새로운 판도를 창출해야 한다는 내용이 주를 이뤘다. 마지막으로, 국제화 지표에 대한 양적 평가를 비판하였다. 이에 대학의 국제화 전개 과정을 ‘신자유주의’에 입각하여 개인을 도구적 수단으로 치환시켰다는 사실에 대한 자성적 입장이 존재하였다. 이와 같은 결과에 기반하여 본 연구에서는 대학 국제화에 관한 새로운 관점의 정책의 수립과 개선방향을 모색해야한다는 점을 시사한다. 이를 통해 글로벌화 되고 있는 사회적 환경에 대응하고, 대학의 국제화를 통해 미래의 기대에 부응하는 대학 교육의 지향점을 찾기 위한 노력이 필요함을 피력하고자 한다.
