This study examines the current status of Korean language assessment and teachers’ perception of process-fortified assessment. This study also analyzes Korean language teachers’ competencies for process-fortified assessment and the factors that influence it. The results show that Korean language teachers agree on the necessity and educational value of process-fortified assessment, but do not implement it in actual assessment situations. In the study of Korean language teachers’ competencies, it is found that the expertise of the assessment tool development and the application of assessment results are somewhat insufficient. Competencies in developing standardized assessment items were the most likely factor of explaining teachers' expertise.
