The purpose of this study is to find out the needs and their filling up ratios of disabled people on the residential care services related to the severity of their disabilities. In this study, residential care services include respite care services, small group homes and long-stay institutions. For this purpose, this study analyzed national survey data which produced by the prior national survey for estimating needed amounts of national social service provisions. This study found out three major characteristics of the residential care services needs of disabled people. The first is that the severer group of disabled people revealed the higher ratio of the needs on the services of respite care homes. small group homes and long-stay institutions. The second is that the filling up ratios of residential care service needs showed significantly low. The third is that the severer group of disabled people who have needs on the residential care services showed the lower filling up ratios. By the results of this study, government policy on residential care services for disabled people should consider setting up public assessment systems on the needs for residential care services, inter-related provision schemes among respite care homes, small group homes and large institutions and transitional services for the residential service users being preferred to live independently with community support services.
