Fast Device Discovery for Remote Device Management in Lighting Control Networks

( Sang Il Choi ),( Sang Hun Lee ),( Seok Joo Koh ),( Sang Kyu Lim ),( In Su Kim ),( Tae Gyu Kang ) 한국정보처리학회 2015 Journal of information processing systems Vol.11 No.1

The Remote Device Management (RDM) protocol is used to manage the devices in the lighting control networks. RDM provides bi-directional communications between a controller and many lighting devices over the DMX512-A network. In RDM, using a simple binary search scheme, which is based on the 48-bit unique ID (UID) of each device, discovers the lighting devices. However, the existing binary search scheme tends to require a large delay in the device discovery process. In this paper, we propose a novel partition-based discovery scheme for fast device discovery in RDM. In the proposed scheme, all devices are divided into several partitions as per the device UID, and the controller performs device discovery for each partition by configuring a response timer that each device will use. From numerical simulations, we can see that there is an optimal number of partitions to minimize the device discovery time for a given number of devices in the proposed scheme, and also that the proposed partition-based scheme can reduce the device discovery time, as compared to the existing binary search scheme.

      • Adaptive space partition 방법을 이용한 새로운 신뢰도 해석 방법

        이종민(Jongmin Lee),이익진(Ikjin Lee) 대한기계학회 2017 대한기계학회 춘추학술대회 Vol.2017 No.11

In this paper, a new approach for estimating the probability of failure is proposed. Due to high computational cost of conventional sampling-based reliability analysis methods, this approach sequentially adds new samples at the proper location to increase efficiency. The method consists of two parts; space partition part and additional sampling part. Space partition is conducted using Voronoi diagram, and additional sampling location is determined using H cell strategy which discriminates the subspaces near the limit state function. The efficiency is compared with the results of other sampling-based reliability analysis methods and they demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method.

A parallel query processing system based on graph-based database partitioning

        Nam, Yoon-Min,Han, Donghyoung,Kim, Min-Soo Elsevier science 2019 Information sciences Vol.480 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>As parallel database systems have large amounts of data to process, it is important to utilize a scalable and efficient horizontal database partitioning method. The existing partitioning methods have major drawbacks that not only cause large amounts of data redundancy but also still require expensive shuffle operations for join queries in many cases—despite their high data redundancy. We elucidate upon the drawbacks originating from the tree-based partitioning schemes and propose a novel graph-based database partitioning method called GPT that both improves the query performance and reduces data redundancy. We integrate the proposed GPT method into a parallel query processing system, Spark SQL, across all the relevant layers and modules, including the query plan generator and the scan operator. Through extensive experiments using three benchmarks, TPC-DS, IMDB and BioWarehouse, we show that GPT significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art method in terms of both storage overhead and query performance.</P>

Convective cooling and heat partitioning to grinding chips in high speed grinding of a nickel based superalloy

        Keli Peng,Pan Lu,Feihong Lin,Tan Jin,Wencheng Bao,Guizhi Xie,Zhentao Shang 대한기계학회 2021 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.35 No.6

The level and variation of energy partition ratio to grinding chips in high speed grinding of a nickel based alloy has been investigated. The ratio to grinding chips is evaluated by relating the heat partitioning at the chip formation area with the whole thermal system, which is used to evaluate the convection heat transfer coefficient (CHTC) of water based grinding fluid. High level of CHTCs of the grinding fluid have been identified at high grinding speeds, beneficial heat transfer conditions of low ratios to the workpiece can be achieved. As the burnout happens with the CHTC dropping down to zero level, the ratio to the workpiece and grinding chips would become much higher, around 30-40 % of the grinding heat can be taken away by grinding chips. For nickel based superalloys, it is possible to achieve high material removal rates with the effective cooling of the grinding zone.

Capabilities-Based “Confusion”: Why Capabilities-Based Planning Systems Struggle

        ( Thomas-durell Young ) 한국국방연구원 2021 The Korean Journal of Defense Analysis Vol.33 No.1

In the 2001 Quadrennial Defense Review, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld announced that the Department of Defense would henceforth use capabilitiesbased planning to guide the development of the armed forces. The popularity of the idea spread to many allied countries that also embraced the concept. However, the successful implementation of the method has been hindered by a number of factors: lack of an agreed lexicon, confusion in many defense organizations to the degree to which “threats” are used, inattention to policy priorities, heavy institutional analytical requirements, and a lack of acknowledgement of the importance money must play in any planning system. The paper concludes that whilst elements of the method are well-suited to providing objective data in support of senior leadership’s decision-making; alone, it is insufficient to drive planning, which is inherently a political process.

Sonar-based obstacle avoidance using region partition scheme

Bui, T.T.Quyen,Hong, Keum-Shik 대한기계학회 2010 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.24 No.1

This paper addresses an obstacle avoidance problem for a mobile robot in indoor environment. The collision avoidance algorithm utilizes a region partition scheme to analyze the three forward sensory regions of the robot, then to calculate the minimum distances from the center of mass of the robot to the obstacles, respectively, and ultimately to find a navigable region. The supervisor inside the controller receives a series of obstacle avoidance behaviors and makes a decision that allows the robot to successfully navigate in a cluttered environment. In addition, experimental results to illustrate the proposed obstacle avoidance algorithm for the mobile robot in navigation are also presented.

Free-Matrix-based integral inequality for stability analysis of uncertain T-S fuzzy systems with time-varying delay

        Wenpin Luo,Jun Yang,Xin Zhao 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2016 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.14 No.4

This paper focuses on further improved stability criteria for uncertain T-S fuzzy systems with timevaryingdelay by delay-partitioning approach and Free-Matrix-based integral inequality. A modified augmentedLyapunov-Krasovskii functional (LKF) is established by partitioning the delay in all integral terms. Then, on thebasis of taking into account the independent upper bounds of the delay derivative in various delay intervals, somenew results on tighter bounding inequalities, such as Peng-Park’s integral inequality and the Free-Matrix-basedintegral inequality are employed to effectively reduce the enlargement in bounding the derivative of LKF, therefore, less conservative results can be expected in terms of es and LMIs. Finally, three numerical examples are includedto show that the proposed method is less conservative than existing ones.
