        연구논문 : 미국 잠재 의료관광객의 지각된 위험을 통한 시장세분화에 따른 위험 감소 전략과 의료관광국 선택속성의 중요도 차이에 관한 연구

        본 연구는 지각된 위험을 이용하여 주요 의료관광 송출국인 미국의 잠재 의료관광객 시장세분화를 시도하고 이들이 지각하는 위험 감소 전략 및 해외 의료관광국 선택 시 중요하게 고려하는 변수들에 대해 조사했다. 군집분석을 통해 도출된 세분시장은 그들이 지각하는 위험의 수준에 따라 각각 높은 위험지각자, 중간 위험지각자, 낮은 위험지각자 집단으로 명명되었다. 지각된 위험 감소 전략에 대한 조사대상자들이 지각하는 중요도에 대해 조사한 결과 ‘사후 관리를 위한 의사연계 용이성’이 중요한 것으로 나타났으며, 그 뒤를 이어 ‘의사의 경력 또는 학위 언급,’ ‘국제의료기관 평가인증 언급,’ ‘국가 혹은 의료시설을 방문한 의료관광객 수 언급,’ ‘개인 경험담 인용,’ ‘의료관광 에이전시의 로고나 브랜드 심볼 사용,’ ‘의료시설의 로고나 브랜드 심볼 사용’의 순으로 나타났다. 의료관광국 선택속성 중요도에 대한 분석결과 ‘의료의 질,’ ‘위생,’ ‘비용절감,’ ‘환자보호를 위한 법적/규제적 환경,’ ‘정치적 안정성,’‘경제적 안정성,’ ‘관광기회,’ ‘접근성’의 순으로 나타났다. 위험 감소 전략과 의료관광국 선택속성에 대한 세분시장별 차이분석 결과, 상대적으로 중요하다고 평가되는 항목에 대해서는 집단별 차이가 발견되지 않았으나 중요도 측면에서 낮은 순위의 변수들은 집단 간 유의적인 차이를 보였다. 또한 본 연구는 위험지각을 기반으로 한 세분시장별 인구통계학적인 특성차이에 대한 파악을 시도하였다. 분석결과 각 세분시장은 성별과 인종에 따른 차이는 없었으나, 결혼유무, 연령, 교육수준 및 연간 가계소득에서 집단 간 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 종합적으로 의료관광에 대한 위험지각은 잠재 의료관광객의 인구통계적인 특성과 밀접한 상관이 있는 것으로 분석되었다. This study is designed to segment potential U.S. medical tourists using perceived risks and to investigate risk reduction strategies and important selection attributes regarding medical tourism. After conducting cluster analyses, three segments are emerged and named high risk perceivers, medium risk perceivers, and low risk perceivers based on the level of perceived risk. It was found that contacting practitioner post-procedure is the most important risk reduction strategy, followed by physician or staff biography and education, accrediation, reference to number of international patients, use of testimonials, logo-/branding symbol of medical tourism agencies, and logo-branding symbol of medical facility. In terms of medical tourism destination selection attributes, quality of medical service is the most salient attribute, followed by hygiene, potential for saving, legal and regulatory environment for patient protection, political stability, economic stability, tourism opportunities, and accessibility. The results of ANOVA reveal that the three groups are not statistically different in terms of the more important risk reduction strategies and the destination selection attributes. However, they are statistically different in terms of the less important strategies and selection attributes. In addition, cross tabulation reveal that the three segment are significantly different in terms of marital status, age, education level, and annual household income indicating the importance of demographic information in marketing medical tourism..

        An Exploratory Study on Tourist Choice Attributes and Characteristics of Medical Tourism in the Philippines

        The purpose of this study is to present a tourism strategy suitable to market characteristics. Therefore, this study is to identify medical tourism situation in the Philippines, which is a potential competitor of the Korean medical tourism market, and to derive the characteristics of medical tourism selection that can reveal the specificity of the medical tourism market. In order to achieve the purpose of research, we conducted a survey on the actual condition of medical tourism for tourists who had experienced tourism in the Philippines. As a result of this study, we could divide eight dimensions of medical tourism selection attributes in the Philippines, including ‘Political and social image’, ‘Medical service quality’, ‘National image on local people’, ‘facilities and convenience’, ‘social environment’, ‘Medical service reputation’, ‘economic image,’ and ‘tourism attractions’. In addition, cluster analysis was conducted on the basis of the revealed eight dimensions, and it was classified into four subdivided markets: ‘tourist destination priority group’, ‘medical service oriented group’, ‘long term stay oriented group’, and ‘medical tourism group’. Also, as a result of the Chi-square test, it was confirmed that income, occupation, and purpose of visit are significant variables that reveal characteristics of subdivision market. These findings can provide useful implications for future medical tourism strategies.
