As vehicles become more intelligent, in-vehicle networking (IVN) systems such as controller area network (CAN) or FlexRay are essential for convenience and safety of drivers. To expand the applicability of IVN systems, attention is currently being focused on the communication between heterogeneous networks such as body networking and chassis networking systems. A gateway based on message mapping method was developed to interconnect FlexRay and CAN networks. However, this type of gateways has the following shortcomings. First, when a message ID was changed, the gateway must be reloaded with a new mapping table reflecting the change. Second, if the number of messages to be transferred between two networks increase, software complexity of gateway increases very rapidly. In order to overcome these disadvantages, this paper presents FlexRay-CAN gateway based on node mapping method. More specifically, this paper presents a node mapping based FlexRay-CAN gateway operation algorithm along with the experimental evaluation for ID change.

This paper presents a mathematical model to determine the optimal length of static messages that can achieve more efficient use of a FlexRay network. In order to determine the optimal length of static message, the proposed model evaluates the given set of messages with respect to a network utilization index, which is defined in this work. The efficient use of a FlexRay network is achieved by reallocating any static message whose length is equal or greater than the resulting value to the dynamic segment. The effectiveness of the proposed method is investigated by applying to the SAE benchmark data.

Increasing number of electronic devices inside the car inside the car load of data is also increasing rapidly. A lot of current applied to the vehicle"s CAN communication if an increase in traffic may cause problems in data processing. Therefore, the CAN as well as cars of the future will work with the mesh Flexray. In this case, the two have different protocols should have the ability to communicate with each other. In this paper, both the CAN and Flexray implementation of hardware and software with a gateway that can communicate with each other to implement this feature it as power distribution and control of lamps and magnetic fields to switch hit Smart Junction Box (SJB) applies to was Hardware to the creation and operation of the gateway function through experiments and confirmed the behavior of the SJB function.

In recent years, time triggered protocols have been developed for time critical applications such as x-by-wire system. In this respect, the FlexRay protocol is likely to become the de-facto standard for in-vehicle network. FlexRay protocol is consist of the static segment which follows a TDMA(Time Division Multiple Access) scheme, and the dynamic segment which adopts a FTDMA(Flexible Time Division Multiple Access) scheme. Each segment has dissimilar network utilization on the message transmission. In this paper, we study the scheduling problem of the message assignment to the static segment and dynamic segment. We define a network utilization by mean of performance index and derive an integer linear programming(ILP) problem that maximizes the network utilization.

Safety critical systems such as x-by-wire systems require in-vehicle network systems that can interconnect various sensors, actuators, and controllers. These networks need to have high data rate, deterministic operation, and fault tolerance. Recently, FlexRay protocol that is a time-triggered protocol has been introduced, and many automotive companies have been focusing on this protocol. This paper presents the design method of gateway for in-vehicle network using CAN and FlexRay.

A real-time distributed systems in In-Vehicle Network such as a chassis control system needs to have high data rate, deterministic operation, and fault tolerance. An event-triggered protocol, CAN can not support these characteristics. Recently, FlexRay protocol that is a time-triggered protocol has been introduced. This paper introduces CAN and FlexRay protocols which are used in real-time distributed systems. And then this paper presents the analysis of transmission delay using a timing diagram.
