Hierarchical chitosan/polyvinyl alcohol/polyethylene glycol/nonwoven fabric micro/nanofiber composite membrane: a potential biomaterial for wound dressing

        Ziwei Sun,Qingtao Liu,Zhen Wang,Baobao Zhao,Quan Feng,Yanyan Sun,Min Zhong 한국고분자학회 2023 Macromolecular Research Vol.31 No.12

A hierarchical chitosan/polyvinyl alcohol/polyethylene glycol/nonwoven fabric (CS/PVA/PEG/NWF) micro/nanofiber composite membrane (CM) was prepared via electrospinning as a potential wound dressing. The polyester/viscose NWF acting as a substrate to receive the nanofiber layer was modified by alkali deweighting. Meanwhile, PEG with various additive amount was used to afford morphological regulation and control. As a result, the NWF modified with 7.5% NaOH solution exhibited a good hydrophilia and a superior dimensional stability based on smaller elongation at break and higher peel strength. In addition, the morphology of the nanofiber layer was closely related to PEG content. CS/PVA/PEG nanofiber with smaller diameter was spun when PEG content reached to 3.0%. Accordingly, the micro/nanofiber CM showed an opportune water absorption and good air permeability. Furthermore, neither hemolysis nor cytotoxicity phenomena appeared for the resultant CM, since the hemolysis rate and the cell viability were less than 5% and more than 70%, respectively.

      • Research on Religious Exchanges in the “Belt and Road” Countries under the Mutual Learning of Civilizations

Sun Xiqin,Chen Ziwei 아시아사회과학학회 2021 Jornal of Asia Social Science Vol.5 No.3

Nowadays, the international political and economic situation is changing constantly. Based on its own historical development and reality, China’s the “Belt and Road” initiative is an important way to realize globalization, and it has promoted exchanges and mutual learning and common development between China and countries along the the “Belt and Road” initiative. From the perspective of civilization exchange and development, the the “Belt and Road” initiative is the integration of multi-cultures. In the process from vision to reality, deep communication and mutual understanding of human civilization are needed. We can see that the unbalanced social development and deepening mutual influence among countries all over the world make the the “Belt and Road” initiative face different challenges from different ethnic and religious groups. Therefore, we should learn from history, deeply study the positive role of religious culture in the exchange and mutual learning of civilizations, establish a sense of responsibility, tell Chinese religious stories well, sort out the image of China, and promote the high-quality development of the the “Belt and Road” initiative .

Identification, tissue distribution and characterization of two heat shock factors (HSFs) in goldfish (<i>Carassius auratus</i>)

        Kim, So-Sun,Chang, Ziwei,Park, Jang-Su Elsevier 2015 FISH AND SHELLFISH IMMUNOLOGY Vol.43 No.2

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are synthesized rapidly in response to a variety of physiological or environmental stressors, whereas the transcriptional activation of HSPs is regulated by a family of heat shock factors (HSFs). In vertebrates, multiple HSFs (HSF1-4) have been reported to have different roles in response to a range of stresses. This paper reports the cDNA cloning of two goldfish (<I>Carassius auratus</I>) HSF gene families, HSF1 and three isoforms of HSF2. Both HSF1 and HSF2s showed high homology to the known HSFs from other organisms, particularly the zebrafish. Different patterns of HSF1 and HSF2 mRNA expression were detected in several goldfish tissues, highlighting their distinct roles. In cadmium (Cd)-treated tissues, the responses of HSP70 showed less difference. However, the increase in HSF1 and HSF2 in these tissues differs considerable. In particular, HSF2 was induced strongly in the heart and liver. On the other hand, in heart tissue, HSF1 showed the smallest increment. These results suggest the potential role of HSF2 in assisting HSF1 in these tissues. In another in?vitro experiment of hepatocyte cultures, Cd exposure caused similar patterns of goldfish HSF1 and HSF2 mRNA expression and induction of the HSP70 protein. On the other hand, an examination of the characterization of recombinant proteins showed that HSF1 undergoes a conformation change induced by heat shock above 30?°C and approaches each other in the trimer, whereas HSF2 could not sense thermal stress directly.</P> <P>Furthermore, immune-blot analysis of HSFs showed that both monomers and trimmers of HSF1 were observed in cadmium-induced tissues, whereas HSF2 were all in monomeric. These results show that HSF1 and HSF2 play different roles in the transcription of heat shock proteins.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> The cDNA of Goldfish HSF1 and three isoforms of HSF2 were cloned. </LI> <LI> Different patterns of HSF1 and HSF2 mRNA expression were detected. </LI> <LI> In hepatocytes, Cd caused similar patterns of HSF1 and HSF2 mRNA expression. </LI> <LI> There is a distinct difference between two factors in the protein patterns of the HSF1 and HSF2 by Cd exposure. </LI> <LI> HSF1 and HSF2 play different roles in the transcription of heat shock proteins by thermal stress. </LI> </UL> </P>

Exploration and Validation of the Performance of Hemoglobin A1c in Detecting Diabetes in Community-Dwellers With Hypertension

        Shan-hu Qiu,Ziwei Du,Weiling Li,Juan Chen,Hang Wu,Jingbao Liu,Min Cai,Bei Wang,Haijian Guo,Zi-lin Sun 대한진단검사의학회 2020 Annals of Laboratory Medicine Vol.40 No.6

Background: Diabetes can complicate hypertension management by increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and all-cause mortality. Studies targeting diabetes detection in hypertensive individuals demonstrating an increased risk of diabetes are lacking. We aimed to assess the performance of hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) and its cut-off point in detecting diabetes in the abovementioned population. Methods: Data from 4,096 community-dwellers with hypertension but without known diabetes were obtained from the Study on Evaluation of iNnovated Screening tools and determInation of optimal diagnostic cut-off points for type 2 diaBetes in Chinese muLti-Ethnic (SENSIBLE) study; these data were randomly split into exploration (70% of the sample) and internal validation (the remaining 30%) datasets. The optimal HbA1c cut-off point was derived from the exploration dataset and externally validated using another dataset from 2,431 hypertensive individuals. The oral glucose tolerance test was considered the gold-standard for confirming diabetes. Results: The areas under the ROC curves for HbA1c to detect diabetes were 0.842, 0.832, and 0.829 for the exploration, internal validation, and external validation datasets, respectively. An optimal HbA1c cut-off point of 5.8% (40 mmol/mol) yielded a sensitivity of 76.2% and a specificity of 74.5%. Individuals who were not diagnosed as having diabetes by HbA1c at 5.8% (40 mmol/mol) had a lower 10-year CVD risk score than those diagnosed as having diabetes (P=0.01). HbA1c≤5.1% (32 mmol/mol) and ≥6.4% (46 mmol/mol) could indicate the absence and presence of diabetes, respectively. Conclusions: HbA1c could detect diabetes effectively in community-dwellers with hypertension.
