      • KKhao Vassa" Ritual and its Soundscape Function of the Dai Minority in Jinggu

        People convey their religious beliefs through rituals of which soundscape is an integral part. Focusing on the "KKhao Vassa" ritual of Theravada Buddhism in the Jinggu region and the soundscape in devotional scriptures a preliminary analysis of Theravada Buddhism ritual in the Jinggu region and its soundscape is presented in this paper using Yang Minkang's Classification of Theravada Buddhism Ritual Music and Merriam's on Music Function. It is concluded that the changing soundscape in ritual is to convey religious beliefs enhance the sentiment of believers and realize successful completion and ritual purposes.

        An Ultra-narrow Bandwidth Filter for Daytime Wind Measurement of Direct Detection Rayleigh Lidar

        A Rayleigh Lidar used for wind detection works by transmitting laser pulses to the atmosphere and receiving backscattering signals from molecules. Because of the weak backscattering signals, a lidar usually uses a high sensitivity photomultiplier as detector and photon counting technology for signal collection. The capturing of returned extremely weak backscattering signals requires the lidar to work on dark background with a long time accumulation to get high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Because of the strong solar background during the day, the SNR of lidar during daytime is much lower than that during nighttime, the altitude and accuracy of detection are also restricted greatly. Therefore this article describes an ultra-narrow bandwidth filter (UNBF) that has been developed on 354.7 nm wavelength of laser. The UNBF is used for suppressing the strong solar background that degrades the performance of Rayleigh wind lidar during daytime. The optical structure of UNBF consists of an interference filter (IF), a low resolution Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI) and a high resolution FPI. The parameters of each optical component of the UNBF are presented in this article. The transmission curve of the aligned UNBF is measured with a tunable laser. Contrasting the result of with-UNBF and with-IF shows that the solar background received by a Licel transient recorder decreases by 50~100 times and that the SNR with-UNBF was improved by 3 times in the altitude range (35 km to 40 km) compared to with-IF at 10:26 to 10:38 on August 29, 2018. By the SNR comparison at four different times of one day, the ratio-values are larger than 1 over the altitude range (25~50 km) in general, the results illustrate that the SNR with-UNBF is better than that with-IF for Rayleigh Lidar during daytime and they demonstrate the effective improvements of solar background restriction of UNBF.

        Pentacyclic Triterpenoids from <i>Astilbe rivularis</i> that Enhance Glucose Uptake via the Activation of Akt and Erk1/2 in C2C12 Myotubes

        <P>Glucose uptake into insulin-sensitive tissues is important for the regulation of blood glucose. This study has investigated whether the pentacyclic triterpenoids substituted with a carboxylic acid at the C-27 position isolated from <I>Astilbe rivularis</I> can enhance glucose uptake and subsequently to also examine their underlying molecular mechanisms. The structure of the new pentacyclic triterpenoid <B>1</B> was assigned by spectroscopic data interpretation. To evaluate the activity of compounds <B>1</B> and <B>2</B>, glucose uptake and glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4) translocation were measured in C2C12 myotubes. The C-27-carboxylated triterpenoids <B>1</B> and <B>2</B> significantly increased basal and insulin-stimulated glucose uptake and GLUT4 translocation to plasma membrane. Both compounds stimulated the phosphorylation of insulin receptor substrate-1 (IRS-1), protein kinase B (Akt), and extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (Erk1/2). Pretreatment with the Akt inhibitor triciribine or the Erk1/2 inhibitor U0126 decreased the ability of both compounds to enhance basal- and insulin-stimulated glucose uptake and stimulate GLUT4 translocation. These results indicate that compounds <B>1</B> and <B>2</B> activated both the IRS-1/Akt and Erk1/2 pathways and subsequently stimulated GLUT4 translocation, leading to enhanced glucose uptake.         Trends in Specific Immunotherapy for Allergic Rhinitis: A Survey of Chinese ENT Specialists

        Purpose: Specific immunotherapy (SIT) is a suitable but uncommon treatment option for allergic rhinitis (AR) in China. The current understandingand attitude of Chinese ENT (ear, nose, and throat) specialists in regards to SIT is unclear. This study investigates current trends in the awarenessand application status of SIT among Chinese ENT specialists. Methods: We performed a nationwide, cross-sectional survey with a specially designedquestionnaire given to 800 ENT specialists in China. A member of the trained research group conducted face-to-face interviews with eachrespondent. Results: Most of the respondents considered AR (96.0%) and allergic asthma (96.0%) the most suitable indications for SIT. Of all respondents,77.0% recommended the application of SIT as early as possible; in addition, SIT was considered ‘relatively controllable and safe’ bymost respondents (80.6%). The highest allergen-positive rate in AR was associated with house dust mite (47.7%) and obvious differences existedamong geographical regions. Conventional subcutaneous immunotherapy was the most highly recommended treatment option (96.2%). ‘The highcost of SIT’ (86.6%) and ‘lack of patient knowledge of SIT’ (85.2%) were probably the main reasons for the lower clinical use of SIT in China. Conclusions:Most cases showed that the opinions of Chinese ENT specialists appeared to be in agreement with recent SIT progress and internationalguidelines; however, many areas still need to enhance the standardization and use of SIT in China. Clinical guidelines for SIT require improvement;in addition, Chinese ENT specialists need continuing medical education on SIT.

        Effect of Myostatin (MSTN) g+6223G>A on Production and Carcass Traits in New Zealand Romney Sheep

        Myostatin, which is also known as growth and differentiation factor 8 (GDF8), has been reported to act as a negative regulator of skeletal muscle development. Variation in the myostatin gene (MSTN) has been associated with variation in muscularity in certain "meaty" sheep breeds. Polymerase Chain Reaction-Single Strand Conformational Polymorphism (PCR-SSCP) analysis was used to investigate allelic variation in the previously described g+6223G>A single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the 3' untranslated region (3' UTR) of MSTN. The sheep studied were 79 New Zealand (NZ) Romney lambs derived from a single sire heterozyous for g+6223G>A, which is in itself notable as this polymorphism has not been described previously in this breed. Allelic variation was observed to be associated with an abnormal gender ratio (p = 0.046) in the progeny. The presence of allele A was observed to have an effect (p<0.05) on birth weight, mean loin yield, proportion yield loin and total muscle yield. Allelic variation did not significantly affect mean shoulder yield, leg yield, proportion yield shoulder and proportion yield leg. This preliminary result suggests that while the A allele at MSTN g+6223 appears to improve some valuable traits in NZ Romney sheep, further research is required to understand if and how it may affect other traits.

        중국 성인소비자의 소비성향과 제품가치평가가 패션 사치품 구매의도에 미치는 영향

        한국의 최대 교역국인 중국은 최근 몇 년간 사치품 구매 빈도와 액수가 급증하여 세계 사치품 시장의 큰 비중을 차지하게 되었다. 이에 사치품을 구매해 본 경험이 있는 중국 성인소비자를 대상으로 하여 사치품 구매의도에 초점을 두어 그들의 사치소비 의도를 진단하고, 사치품 구매의도를 결정하는 영향요인으로 소비성향과 제품가치평가의 영향력을 검증하였다. 선행연구 척도를 사용하여 온라인 설문조사를 실시하여 총 405부를 분석자료로 사용하였다. 자료분석은 SPSS를 사용하여 Cronbach’ α계수, t검증, 일원분산분석과 던컨사후검증, 위계적 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 사치품 구매 경험이 있는 중국 성인소비자는 사치품 구매에서 ‘자기만족’을 기준으로 삼는 소비성향이 상대적으로 가장 높았으며, 사치품의 가치평가에서 ‘심미성’을 가장 높게 평가하였다. 이들 변인은 다른 변인들을 통제했을 때 사치품의 구매의도에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 변수로 밝혀졌다. 즉 최종적인 분석에서 사치품 구매의도에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 변수는 자기만족 소비성향이었으며, 그 다음은 심미성과 고가성의 제품가치평가 변인이었다. 사치품 구매에서 자기만족을 기준으로 삼으며 사치품이 지니는 심미성과 고가성을 높이 평가하는 소비자일수록 추후 사치품 구매의사가 높기 때문에 이를 반영한 사치품 마케팅전략 수립이 요구된다. 또한 사치품 구매의도에서 소비성향과 제품가치평가의 역할과 기능이 확인되었다. 이러한 결과는 개인 소비자의 만족을 극대화하는 사치품 소비생활 지침에 대한 자료로 사용될 수 있으며, 중국과 한국 사치품 소비시장의 경제적 성장 및 확대를 가져오는 사치품 수요 증가 방안 모색에 활용될 수도 있을 것이다.

      • Codoped ZnO films by a co-spray deposition technique for photovoltaic applications

        A co-spray deposition technique has been developed to bypass a fundamental limitation in the conventional spray deposition technique, i.e., the deposition of metal oxides from incompatible precursors in the starting solution. With this technique, ZnO films codoped with F and Al have been successfully synthesized, in which F is incompatible with Al. Two starting solutions were prepared and co-sprayed through two separate spray heads. One solution contained only the F precursor, $NH_4F$. The second solution contained the Zn and Al precursors, $Zn(O_2CCH_3)_2$ and $AlCl_3$. The deposition was carried out at $500^{\circ}C$ on soda-lime glass in air. A minimum sheet resistance, $55.4{\Omega}/{\square}$, was obtained for Al and F codoped ZnO films after vacuum annealing at $400^{\circ}C$, which was lower than singly-doped ZnO with either Al or F. The transmittance for the codoped ZnO samples was above 90% in the visible range. This co-spray deposition technique provides a simple and cost-effective way to synthesize metal oxides from incompatible precursors with improved properties for photovoltaic applications.
