Background: Acquired genetic alterations and presence of sensitizing mutations in the tyrosine kinase domain of EGFR and other signaling molecules have been found in different subsets of primary lung adenocarcinoma. The commonest EGFR mutations are small in frame deletions of exon 19 and a point mutation (L858R) in exon 21, having a combined occurrence of around 90%. The objective of this study was to determine the frequency and types of EGFR mutations in primary lung adenocarcinomas in Pakistan. Materials and Methods: EGFR mutations in tumor samples were screened by multiplex real time PCR. Briefly, DNA from formalin fixed paraffin-embedded tissue was amplified with primers and probes specific to 43 different EGFR mutations in a Cobas z 480 instrument. The assay detects mutations in four exons (18-21) of the EGFR gene. Results: Out of 94 patients, 65 were males and 29 females with a M:F ratio of 2.2: 1. The median age was 62 years (range, 28 - 85 years). In our biopsy samples 70 (74%) cases were of primary lung adenocarcinoma, whereas 24 (26%) were confirmed metastatic adenocarcinoma of primary lung origin. EGFR mutation was positive in 29% of the patients. The highest frequency of L858R was observed in 48% of these, followed by deletion in exon 19 (44%). In addition, other rare mutations such as compound G718X:S768I and insertions in exon 20 insertion were detected in approximately 4% of the patients. Conclusions: This study showed that Del 19 and L858R are the most frequent mutations in Pakistani lung adenocarcinoma patients and around 29% of the patients were found eligible for erlotinib therapy.

The study aims to examine the role of financial risk management in predicting the financial performance of commercial banks in Pakistan over the period of 2006–2017. For this purpose, risk management is measured through credit risk, interest rate risk, and liquidity risk, while financial performance is measured through ROA, ROE, and ROI. For this purpose, the dynamic panel model and two step GMM panel estimators are used to test the hypothesis empirically. The annual secondary data has been taken from the published financial reports of commercial banks of Pakistan. The results show that financial risk management significantly decreases the financial performance of commercial banks in Pakistan. Overall, the results are conclusive across the alternative measures of financial risk management in predicting the financial performance of the banking sector in Pakistan. The study suggested that managers should adopt risk management and risk hedging strategies to manage commercial banks’ financial risks in Pakistan. They should hold extra cash while using the trade credit facilities. Previous studies mostly used a static model, but this study used a dynamic panel model. This study is among the first that focused on the various factors affecting the banks’ performance in Pakistan.
Single-Phase Isolated Impedance-Source Inverters

This paper presents a new class of impedance source inverters which offers high frequency isolation between the inverter bridge and the load. Conventional Zsource inverter which employs a impedance network consisting of inductors and capacitors have unique features which can be realized as both buck and boost functions without the need of dead time and overlap time, that cannot be achieved by traditional voltage-fed and current-fed inverters. This paper extends this novel concept by using electrical isolation in impedance source inverters. High frequency isolation itself have limitless advantages in terms of safety, reliability etc. when applied with impedance source inverter makes it a preferable choice for industrial applications. In PV systems a dc circulating current emerges and flows into grid which damages the whole system, electrical isolation prevents the injection of this dc current into the grid. Moreover the gain of the proposed inverter can also be adjusted by varying the turns ratio of the high frequency transformer giving more freedom in utilizing a higher modulation index, results in increased efficiency in terms of waveform quality, improved power factor, lower component voltage stress etc. An experimental prototype is constructed to validate the working operation of the proposed inverter.
태양 전지와 압전 재료를 이용한 하이브리드 발전시스템 개발

This paper deals with the operation of a hybrid power generation system made with photovoltaic cells and piezoelectric materials. The system can produce power from the wind as well as from the sun subject to their availability. Irrespective of the largeness of their power production, the power developed by both generators (i.e., phtovoltaic cells and piezoelectric cells) were combined and stored before it was applied to a load. Especially, the AC power (current) developed from each piezoelectric generator was converted by a full wave bridge rectifier and then combined prior to its storage in a capacitor. It was observed that the system can produce a maximum output power of 6.49 mW at loading resistance of 100 Ω.
