      • 재미한인의 교육성취도를 통해서 본 모델 마이너리티개념의 한계

        다인종 · 다민족국가인 미국에서 아시아계 미국인은 성공한 이민자 집단으로서의 ‘모델 마이너리티’로 평가받고 있다. 아시아계의 높은 학력수준과 경제적 성취도는 모범적인 이민자집단으로서 비추어지기에 충분했다. 하지만 아시아계 미국인,특히 그 중에서도 재미한인의 높은 학력이 미국사회로의 진출과 성공에 어느 정도의 영향을 미치고 있는지,그리고 그러한 영향력은 백인이나 히스패닉,흑인들과 어떠한 차이를 가지고 있는지에 대한 의문에서 본 연구는 시작되었다. 각종 통계자료와 문헌,그리고 설문조사를 통하여 볼 때,높은 교육수준이 사회 · 경제적 성공과 지위획득에 영향을 줄 것이라는 교육에 대한 높은 기대치는 입시와 취업에 있어서 미국인들과는 다르게 적용되는 기준으로 인하여 더욱 고학력을 지향하던가,아니면 반대로 종족집단으로의 회귀현상으로 나타나게됨을 알 수 있었다. 결국,다문화사회에 대한 반다문화주의의 등장은 종족적 · 인종적 · 계급적인 보편성을 인정하게 되면 사회가 분열할지도 모른다는 걱정과,다른 문화에 대한 우려로 인하여 나타난 것이라 할 수 있다. Asian Americans as ethnic minohties who,despite marginalization, have achieved successin the United States are spoken of as a'model minority' group because the group hasbeen argued to be more successfulcomparatively than other minority groups inthe United States. The new Amehcanimmigration law in 1965 holds preference forskilled workers and those with collegedegrees; as such, many Asian immigrantsare well-educated before coming to Americaand are often in a upper-middle economicbracket. Therefore, Asians especially thosewho are highly educated and skilled startedto settle down in the United States after themid 1960s. For example, Asian Americanshave accounted for a large percentage ofsome of Amehca's most prestigious universities.The median household income of AsianAmehcans is also higher than the totalpopulation's income. The factors of incomeand educational attainment have made theterm 'model minority' pointing out thesuccess of Asian Amehcans such as Chinese,Korean, and Japanese. Compared to Chineseand Japanese, Korean immigrants tend toblend in quickly with the white upper middleclass while descendants of earlier immigrantsfrom China and Japan have a much more different and difficult history.The aim of this study is to examine theinfluence of the Asian Amehcans' academicsuccess on their advance in the United Statesfocusing on Korean Amehcans. Culturalfactors are mainly thought as a one of thereasons why Asian Americans are successfulin the United States. East Asian societiesthemselves, in general, often place moreresources and emphasis on education. Accordingto the statistics and the survey, however,some Asians presume that they are stillfacing racial discrimination even if they aresuccessful in education. Asian Amehcans, asa minority group, tend to depend upon theirethnic business instead of advancing into themainstream of the United States. SinceAsian Amehcans' status in the United Statesis in discord with their educationalattainment, exclusivism germinated alongwith anti-multiculturalism. In other words,anti-multiculturalism is the result ofconcerns that the society might be disunitedor adversed by recognizing the generality inethnic, race, class.

        경막 내 colistimethate 투여로 치료한 다제 내성 cinetobacter baumannii 뇌실염

        Acinetobacter species is a non-fermentative aerobic gram-negative coccobacillus that is an important pathogen found in nosocomial infections. Recently, multi-drug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (MDR-AB) infections have been increasing and pose a serious problem. Most such infections present as bacteremia, pneumonia, or a wound infection; however, CNS infections are very rare. We herein present a case of ventriculitis caused by MDR-AB in a 37-year old man after a neurosurgical intervention. The patient was successfully treated with intrathecal colistimethate.

        제2형 당뇨병 동물모델인 OLETF 쥐에서 장기간 라미프릴 투여가 내당능 및 췌도 베타세포에 미치는 효과

        연구배경:최근 소개된 HOPE(Heart Outcomes Prevention Evaluation)study의 결과에 의하면, 심혈관질환이나 이에 대한 위험인자가 1가지 이상인 9,541명을 대상으로 안지오텐신 전환효소 억제제의 일종인 라미프릴을 투여하여 사망율과 뇌졸증, 심부전, 당뇨병 합병증이 개선되었을 뿐 아니라 다른 항고혈압제에 비해 새롭게 당뇨병으로 진단되는 환자가 줄었음을 보고한바 있다. 이에 저자들은 라미프릴(ramipril)을 제2형 당뇨병 동물모델에 장기간 투여함으로써 당뇨병을 예방하거나 고혈당 상태 또는 인슐린 감수성을 개선시킬수 있는지를 알아보고자 하였다. 방법:생후 24주된 체중 400∼450g의 OLETF와 LETO 쥐를 대상으로 6개월간 라미프릴 경구투여 하였고 혈압, 24시간 단백뇨 및 인슐린 내성검사를 시행하였다. 6개월 이후로는 8주간 투여군과 대조군의 체중을 비슷하게 맞추어 내당능 상태를 평가하였고 이후 다시 8주간 고농도 포도당을 투여하였다. 경구당부하검사를 시행한 후 희생시켜 조직표본을 만들어 guinea pig anti­human insulin 항체로 염색후 DAB로 발색하여 point count 법으로 베타세포를 정량하였고, 면역염색으로 췌도의 변화와 섬유화의 정도를 관찰하였다. 결과:라미프릴을 6개월간 투여하였을 때 OLETF 쥐에서 1)체중 증가가 적었으며 2)경구 당부하검사시 포도당하 면적은 의미있게 감소하였고 3)인슐린 내성검사상 Kitt가 증가되는 경향을 보였으며 4)수축기, 이완기 혈압과 24시간 단백뇨양이 의미있게 감소하였고 5)체중을 맞추면 내당능 상태가 비슷해졌다가 고농도 포도당 주입시 다시 포도당하 면적이 대조군에서 더 증가되었다. 라미프릴 투여군에서 췌도변형 및 파괴와 탈과립, 췌도내 섬유화가 감소하였다. 결론:본 실험에서는 인슐린 비의존성 당뇨병 동물 모델인 OLETF 쥐에서 당뇨병 발생 이전 단계부터 장기간 라미프릴을 투여할 경우 체중증가가 적었고, 투여군과 대조군의 체중을 맞추었을 때는 내당능상태의 차이가 없아가 고혈당 투여시 다시 투여군과 대조군에서 의미있는 차이를 보였다. 라미프릴 투여가 베타세포의 기능면에서 이로운 효과를 보일 것으로 생각되었다. 따라서 비만한 환자에서 안지오텐신 전환효소 억제제의 장기투여는 단백뇨 감소, 혈압강하 효과 이외에 체중증가의 억제 및 당뇨병 발생을 억제할 가능성을 시사한다. Background : In a Heart Outcomes Prevention Evaluation HOPE study, ramipril, a long-acting angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor, significantly reduced the death rates the number of myocardial infarctions, strokes, heart failure as well as the risk of complications related to diabetes and of diabetes itself. However, it is known that ACE inhibitors improve glucose tolerance or insulin sensitivity or reduce the incidence of diabetes. Methods : 24 week-old OLETF (Otsuka Long Evans Tokushima Fatty) rats weighing 400 ~ 450 g were used in this study. 4 groups of rats were examined in parallel for 40 weeks. The OLETF rats were randomized for treatment with an aqueous solution of ramipril (5 mg/Kg) daily [OL (RMP), n=10)] and with saline [OL (CON), n=10)]. The LETO rats were also randomized in the same was as the OLETF rats (LT(RMP), n=10, LT (CON), n=10). The blood glucose level, body weight, systolic and diastolic blood pressure was assessed every month. At 3 and 6 months, the 24hrs urinary protein concentration was measured, and as insulin tolerance test and oral glucose tolerance test were conducted in all experimental groups. After 6 months, the body·weight was matched for 2 months in each corresponding group. Subsequently, a 15% sucrose loading was done for 2 months. After the glucose tolerance test, the pancreas was excised and immuno histochemical staining was conducted for insulin to quantify the beta cell mass by a point-counting method. In addition, the islet morphology was evaluated in the pancreas. Results : Ramipril treatment for a period of 6 months improved the 2hr blood glucose level, the area under the glucose curve in the oral glucose tolerance test, insulin sensitivity in addition to lowering significantly systolic and diastolic blood pressure and 24hrs urinary protein level significantly in OLETF rats. Of note, a lower weight gain was observed in both the ramipril-treated animals at 6 months. After weight matching, the AUC g and 2hr blood glucose level values were similar between the corresponding groups, but a 15% sucrose loading worsened the AUC g value. Histologically, the islets were less disorganized and the extent of fibrosis was lower in the ramipril-treated OLETF rats in the trichrome stain. Conclusion : Long-term treatment of ramipril, a long acting angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor may be useful for suppressing weight gain and proteinuria in addition to having a protective effect on the islet to harmful stimuli such as hyperglycemia (J Kor Diabetes Asso 25:469~482, 2001).

      • Inhibition of p38 pathway-dependent MPTP-induced dopminergic neurodegeneration in estrogen receptor alpha knockout mice

        Approximately, 7-10 million people in the world suffer from Parkinson``s disease (PO), Recently, increasing evi-dence has suggested the protective effect of estrogens against nigrostriatal dopaminergic damage in PD. In this study, we investigated whether estrogen affects l-methyl-4-phenyl-l,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP)-induced behavioral impairment in estrogen receptor alpha (ERa)-deficient mice. MPTP (15 mg/kg, four times with l.5-h interval)-induced dopaminergic neurodegeneration was evaluated in ERα wild-type (WT) and knockout (KO) mice. Larger dopamine depletion, behavioral impairments (Rotarod test, Pole test, and Gait test), activation of mi-croglia and astrocytes, and neurointlammation after MPTP injection were observed in ERα KO mice compared to those in WT mice.Immunostaining for tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) after MPTP injection showed fewerTH-positive neurons in ERα KO mice than WT mice. Levels of dopamine and 3,4-<lihydroxyphenylacetic acid (OOPAC, metab-olite of dopamine) were also lowered in ERα KO mice after MPTP injection. Interestingly, a higher immunoreac-tivity for monoamine oxidase (MAO) B was found in the substantia nigra and striatum of ERα KO mice after MPTP injection. We also found an increased activation of p38 kinase (which positively regulates MAO B expression) in ERα KO mice. In vitro estrogen treatment inhibited neuroinflammation in l-methyl-4-phenyl pyridium (MPP +)-treated cultured astrocyte cells; however, these inhibitory effects were removed by p38 inhibitor. These results indicate that ERα might be important for dopaminergic neuronal survival through inhibition of p38 pathway.

      • Glycoalkaloids content in tuber peel and cortex of 24 potato cultivars of Korea

        Potato glycoalkaloids(PGAs) are potentially toxic to humans at high levels and current safety regulations have recommended that PGAs content in tubers of potato cultivars should not exceed 20 mg/100g·FW. Accordingly, it is important to determine the PGAs composition and levels on potato cultivars for food safty and the breeding for new cultivars with low levels of PGAs. The main aim of this study was to evaluate α-chaconine, α-solanine and total PGAs content in the peel and cortex portions in 24 cultivars including ‘Haryoung’, ‘Goun’, ‘Hongyoung’ and ‘Jayoung’, recently released by Highland Agricultural Research Institute. The total PGAs ranged from 3.1 to 10.1 mg/100g·FW. 75-94% of total PGAs was existed in the peel part of all cultivars. We selected two cultivars, which can be eaten wth the skin on tubers, and so used for soy sauce braised potatoes and baby potatoes for the rest area. These results will provide consumers and breeders with fundamental information about the content of PGAs in Korea major cultivars.

        曾根崎心中 の日本語敎育への活用方案

        外國語敎育は、單に意思疎通のための言語敎育そのものの學習のみではなく、その言語に含まれている文化的背景を正しく理解するとともに韓國文化も正しく理解できる敎育に變えなければならない。そのために本ㅁ考では第7次敎育課程における日本語敎科の文化理解敎育に協同學習と自己主導的學習ができるような敎育演劇を活用した授業方案を講じようとした。近松門左衛門作『曾根崎心中』のキ―ワ―ドである同時に日本人と日本文化理解の常識でもある義理·人情·心中を取り上げ、演劇的方法を授業に導入することは、第7次敎育課程の日本語敎育の目標に符合すると思う The application of the education drama in a seventh curriculum in the foreign language education is based on the "constructivism". Foreign language education makes us understand the background of culture including not only the learning of the linguistic education itself for merely communication but also the related Korea culture. So it must be changed into the education that students can understand. Therefore, cooperative learning and self-directed learning need to included in the lesson plan in to utilize education drama so that it will be possible for the culture understanding education of the Japanese subject in the seventh course of study for this thought. It is a duty(giri), a love(ninjo) and a lovers`` suicide(shinju) that are common sense in understanding the Japanese and at the same time are the key factors of "Sonezakishinju" written by Monzaemon Chikamatsu. The researcher thinks that it will agree with the aim of the Japanese language education of the seventh curriculum to introduce drama into a class.

        기반 기술 : 리눅스에 적용된 해시 및 암호화 알고리즘 분석

        리눅스는 초창기부터 사용자 패스워드의 암호화를 위해 해시 알고리즘인 MD-5를 사용해 왔다. 최근 보안성이 강화된 패스워드 관리가 요구되면서 엔터프라이즈 리눅스 시스템에서는 MD-5보다 더욱 높은 신뢰성을 보이는 SHA-512 알고리즘을 사용하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 해시 및 암호화 알고리즘의 특징에 대해 비교 분석하고, 리눅스 사용자 정보의 관리 체제에 대해 알아본다. 이러한 분석을 기반으로 사용자 패스워드에 적용된 해시 알고리즘의 보안성에 대해 분석하고, 추가적으로 Apache, PHP, MySQL과 같은 공개 소프트웨어 파일 검증에 사용되는 해시 알고리즘 적용 사례를 분석한다. 마지막으로 관련 보안 도구인 John The Ripper를 분석하여 사용자 패스워드 관리를 통한 시스템 보안 강화 방법을 제시한다. MD-5 has been the hash algorithm to encrypt the user``s password on Linux from the beginning. Recently the more reliable password management was demanded and SHA-512 algorithm became the hash algorithm on the recent Enterprise Linux which is more reliable than MD-5. This paper researching the characteristics of the hashing and encryption algorithms and find out about Linux User information management. Based on this analysis, and analysis of the security of the hashing algorithm is applied to the user password. In addition, analyzes the cases used hash algorithm applied to the validation of Open Source Software file, such as Apache, PHP, MySQL. Finally, by analyzing the security tool John The Ripper this paper suggests the enhanced security with the administrative management of passwords.

        선체 응력 모니터링을 위한 FBG 센서에 대한 연구

        Vessels receive stress during their navigations as well as during their cargo operations. This stress may cause damages to the hull and may result in accidents. So the hull stress monitoring system(HSMS) is recommended in order to prevent these accidents. In this paper, we manufactured fiber Bragg grating(FBG) sensor and the model ship for towing tank experiments. The strain characteristics of the model ship on the water wave were measured through the towing tank experiment. The FBG sensors and electric strain gauges were attached on the connection jig, and then the characteristics of the FBG sensor were compared with those of the electric strain gauge. The strain of model ship was increased according to the increment of the amplitude of water wave. In particular, the largest strain was measured in the center of the model ship. As the wave period increased, the strain of model ship was decreased.

        Association of Homocysteine Levels With Blood Lead Levels and Micronutrients in the US General Population

        Objectives: Even though several epidemiological studies have observed positive associations between blood lead levels and homocysteine, no study has examined whether this association differs by the levels of micronutrients, such as folate, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12, which are involved in the metabolism of homocysteine. In this study, we examined the interactions between micronutrients and blood lead on homocysteine levels. Methods: This study was performed with 4089 adults aged ${\geq}20$ years old in the US general population using the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2003-2004. Results: There were significant or marginally significant interactions between micronutrients and blood lead levels on mean homocysteine levels. Positive associations between blood lead and homocysteine were clearly observed among subjects with low levels of folate or low vitamin B6 (p-trend <0.01, respectively). However, in the case of vitamin B12, there was a stronger positive association between blood lead and homocysteine among subjects with high levels of vitamin B12, compared to those with low levels of vitamin B12. In fact, the levels of homocysteine were already high among subjects low in vitamin B12, irrespective of blood lead levels. When we used hyperhomocysteinemia (homocysteine>15 ${\mu}mol/L$) as the outcome, there were similar patterns of interaction, though p-values for each interaction failed to reach statistical significance. Conclusions: In the current study, the association between blood lead and homocysteine differed based on the levels of folate, vitamin B6, or vitamin B12 present in the blood. It may be important to keep sufficient levels of these micronutrients to prevent the possible harmful effects of lead exposure on homocysteine levels.
