<P>To select electrical insulator (insulator) between coated conductor tapes (CC tapes) of two parallel non-inductively wound solenoid type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) is a important issue. Insulator is inserted for separation of two parallel tapes. Quench characteristics and recovery time of SFCL are related on insulator and thermal contact condition. Insertion of tape-shape insulating materials is a normal way of insulation for non-inductively wound SFCL. Thus, various tape-shape insulating materials can be the insulator of SFCL. In this paper, sample holder to simulate parallel tapes with various insulators was fabricated, and sticky polyimide tape and insulating paper tape were chosen for insulator of samples. Short-circuit test was performed in the same condition except inserted insulator of samples. Quench characteristic, generation of resistance, and recovery time of each sample were compared to the others. Special sample holder was used to observe current division and sharing in two parallel coated conductor tapes. The variation of the voltage applied to the module for short-circuit test was from 1.82 (V) to 12.7 (V).</P>

Vibrio species are generally recognized as pathogens predominant in seafood along coastal areas. The food industry has sought to develop efficient microbial detection methods. Owing to the limits of conventional methods, this study aimed to establish a rapid identification method for Vibrio isolated from Korea, based on matrix-assisted laser-desorption/ionization timeof- flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS). Four different preparation procedures were compared to determine the appropriate means to pretreat Vibrio species, using 17 isolates and five reference strains. Extended direct transfer and full formic acid extraction methods using bacterial colonies on agar plates revealed very low identification rates. Formic acid and trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) extractions using bacterial broth cultures were also performed. All Vibrio isolates and reference strains prepared by TFA extraction were successfully identified to the species level (17/22, 77.3%) and to the genus level (5/22, 22.7%). Thus, TFA extraction was considered the most appropriate method to pretreat Vibrio species for MALDI-TOF MS. The remaining 33 isolates and two reference strains were prepared by TFA extraction and analyzed by MALDI-TOF MS. Overall, 50 isolates were identified to the species level (40/50, 80%) and to the genus level (10/50, 20%). All isolates were identified as 43 V. alginolyticus, six V. parahaemolyticus, and one V. vulnificus species. V. alginolyticus and V. parahaemolyticus were isolated from fish offal (87.5% and 12.5%, respectively), seawater (91.3%, 8.7%), and shellfish (62.5%, 37.5%), whereas V. alginolyticus and V. vulnificus were isolated from sediment (90.9% and 9.1%, respectively). This study established a reliable system of MALDI-TOF MS preparation and analysis for Vibrio identification.

<P>We demonstrate a high-speed confocal fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM) whose accuracy and photon economy are as good as that of a time-correlated single photon counting (TCSPC). It is based on a new lifetime determination scheme, the analog mean delay (AMD) method. Due to the technical advantages of multiple fluorescence photon detection capability, accurate lifetime determination scheme and high photon detection efficiency, the AMD method can be the most effective method for high-speed confocal FLIM. The feasibility of real-time confocal FLIM with the AMD method has been demonstrated by observing the dynamic reaction of calcium channels in a RBL-2H3 cell with respect to 4관PDD stimulus. We have achieved the photon detection rate of 125 times faster than a conventional TCSPC based system in this experiment.</P>
