<P>In the present study, we investigated neuronal death/damage in the gerbil hippocampal CA1 region (CA1) and compared changes in some trophic factors, such as brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), in the CA1 between the adult and young gerbils after 5 min of transient cerebral ischemia. Most of pyramidal neurons (89%) were damaged 4 days after ischemia-reperfusion (I-R) in the adult; however, in the young, about 59% of pyramidal neurons were damaged 7 days after I-R. The immunoreactivity and levels of BDNF and VEGF, not GDNF, in the CA1 of the normal young were lower than those in the normal adult. Four days after I-R in the adult group, the immunoreactivity and levels of BDNF and VEGF were distinctively decreased, and the immunoreactivity and level of GDNF were increased. However, in the young group, all of their immunoreactivities and levels were much higher than those in the normal young group. From 7 days after I-R, all the immunoreactivities and levels were apparently decreased compared to those of the normal adult and young. In brief, we confirmed our recent finding: more delayed and less neuronal death occurred in the young following I-R, and we newly found that the immunoreactivities of trophic factors, such as BDNF, GDNF, and VEGF, in the stratum pyramidale of the CA1 in the young gerbil were much higher than those in the adult gerbil 4 days after transient cerebral ischemia.</P>

Objective : The purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinical effect of the non-pharmacological anti-hypertension method, acupuncture, for hypertensive patients. Methods : 26 patients diagnosed with hypertension were each treated by one of three methods: an anti-hypertension drug(adalat soft capsule), venepuncture, and acupuncture. In cases of rising blood pressure, patients were treated by their one of the three methods, and blood pressure was measured at regular intervals. Result : As for the group of acupuncture treated patients on Young-gol(ling-gu) and Gang-ap-hyul(jiang-ya-xue), readings dropped 18.0mmHg in systolic blood pressure and 6.50mmHg in diastolic blood pressure. This was a greater effect than that seen in the venepuncture treated patients. Blood pressure checked one hour after acupuncture treatment showed a greater difference than blood pressure checked after thirty minutes. Conclusion : Safe reductions in blood pressure were observed through the non-pharmacological method of acupuncture on Young-gol(ling-gu) and Gang-ap-hyul(Jiang-ya-xue).

The bony spur formation without degenerative change in the lumbar spines in the young age group is quite interesting and is not uncommon. This bony spur is different from the degenerative spur in the old age group in shape and mechanism of formation. The authors analyzed 25 patients below 29 years old with such posterior lumbar bony spur. We concluded that posterioly lacated Schmorl's node is main cause of the bony pour in young age group at lumbar region.

정전척의 유전체 물질로 열전도도와 유전특성 그리고 기계적 특성이 우수한 알루미나에 TiO₂첨가하여 유전체의 비저항을 변화시켜서 정전척(electrostatic chuck)에서 발생하는 정전력인 쿨롱힘(coulomb force)과 존슨-라벡힘(Johnsen-Fahbeck firce_의 영향을 규명하려 하였다. 그리고 비저항, 인가전압, 온도, 습도가 정전력에 어떠한 영향을 주는지 고찰하였으며, 인가전압에 따른 응답 특성에 관하여 고찰하였다. Alumina electrostatic chucks for silicon wafer process with wide range of electrical resistivity were fabricated by controlling the amount of TiO₂ addition (0 wt%, 1.3 wt%, 2 wt%, 2.8 wt%). The dependence of electrostatic force on applied voltage, temperature and humidity was investigated. In order to find out the genetic differentiation of 18 excellent man-made populations of Cryplomeria japonica in Korea, the variation of peroxidase patterns in foliage were analyzed by the Weighted Variable Group Method (WVGM). The results obtained were as follows: 1. The mean number of isoperoxidase bands was 5.7 - 9.0, and revealed high variation not only between all populations, but also within six populations; Nonsan, Jangseong, Songkwang, Sunam, Haenam, and Goheung. 2. The analysis of variance of mean number of isoperoxidase bands showed highly significant difference among 18 populations. 3. There are no variation on the zymograms, and those showed exactly same patterns on 27 sample trees from Daeduk population. 4. The result of WVGM could be grouped into 4 clusters from all 18 populations. Group Ⅰ included six populations; Geoje, Hadong, Jeonju, Seogwi, Nonsan, and Songkwang. Group Ⅱ did four populations; Sunam, Yeongam, Gwangju, and Busan, Group Ⅲ included seven populations; Haenam, Gwangyang, Namywen, Jangseong, Gangjin, Goheung, and Jinhae, Group Ⅳ included only one, Daeduk population.

본 연구는 영산강 유역의 지류 수질관리에 대한 본류의 수질을 예측하기 위한 다중선형회귀모형을 개발하기 위한 연구로써, 영산호의 수자원은 수질의 악화로 용수공급의 제한을 받고 있으므로 영산강 본류의 수질을 개선하고 보전하여 영산호의 수자원 이수범위를 확대시키고 수생태계의 복원에 기여하며, 양질의 수자원확보와 하천기능의 다양화에 대응하기 위한 기초연구이다. 영산강 중류부의 60km구간을 대상구간으로 설정하고 연구대상구간의 풍영정천, 광주천, 황룡강, 지석천, 만봉천, 문평천, 고막원천, 함평천의 지류를 대상으로 수질관리정도(BOD농도)와 청정수(회석수)의 유입율을 고려하여 목표년도 2001년의 영산강 본류의 수질을 QUAL2E모형에 적용하므로써 예측하였으며, 예측된 수질자료를 활용하여 각 지류의 수질관리에 대한 다중선형회귀모형을 개발하여 제시하였다. This study aimed for developing of the multiple linear regression model in the main stream of the Youngsan river. The extent of the water quality management and the inflow of clear water were applied to QUAL2E model as independent variables, and the predicted results of the QUAL2E model were used to develop the multiple linear regression model. Predictions of the water quality were carried out by QUAL2E model in the middle stream of the river extending over 60km. 2001year was selected as target year. The analysis of multiple linear regression at the middle and the bottom of the total reach was performed to predict the extent of the water quality management at tributary and the water quality in the main stream. According to the results, the water quality of the main stream was more affected by the extent of the water quality management at tributary than by the inflow rate. The conclusion proposed the regressive equation and the equation may be utilized to improve the water quality.

Classification and Labelling system of Chemicals is a very important element for management of chemical safety. Classification and labelling system of Chemicals is very different among countries. This becomes a barrier for transportation of chemicals across counties. Recently, several international organizations (OECD,UNEP,ILO etc.) endeavor to harmonize classification and labelling of chemicals. In this study, we analyze classification and labelling system of chemical described in several regulations of our country, and examine acivities of IOMC(Inter-Organization Programme for the Sound Management of Chemicals)for harmonization of classification and labelling of chemicals. The Toxic Chemical Control Law, the Fire Services Law and the Industrial Safety and Health Law are the major regulation of management of chemical safety. Classification and labelling systems of chemical vary among several regulations. Particularly, labelling system of chemicals in transport vehicles are not appropriate in response to chemical accident. We suggest that task force team consisted with inter-administrative branches is needed to harmonize classification and labelling of chemicals, and recommend the introduction of UN number in labelling systems of chemicals in transport vehicles.
