Development of Virtual Reality-based Visual Perception and Cognitive Rehabilitation Service

Purpose: Patients with brain damage suffer from limitations in performing the activities of daily living (ADL) because of their motor function and visual perception impairment. The aim of this study was to help improve the motor function and visual perception ability of patients with brain damage by providing them with virtual reality-based contents. The usability results of the patients and specialists group were also evaluated. Methods: The ADL contents consisted of living room, kitchen, veranda, and convenience store, similar to a real home environment, and these were organized by a rehabilitation specialist (e.g., neurologist, physiotherapist, and occupational therapist). The contents consisted of tasks, such as turning on the living room lights, organizing the drawers, organizing the kitchen, watering the plants on the veranda, and buying products at convenience stores. To evaluate the usability of the virtual reality-based visual cognitive rehabilitation service, general elderly subjects (n=11), stroke patients (n=7), stroke patients with visual impairment (n=4), and rehabilitation specialists (n=11) were selected. The questionnaires were distributed to the subjects who were using the service, and the subjective satisfaction of individual users was obtained as data. The data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 software. The general characteristics of the users and the evaluation scores of the experts were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: The usability test result of this study showed that the mean value of the questionnaire related to content understanding and difficulty was high, between 4-5 points. Conclusion: The virtual reality rehabilitation service of this study is an efficient service that can improve the function, interest, and motivation of stroke patients.

특수교육기관별 특수교사 전문성과 교직헌신 분석: 배경변인을 중심으로

Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the professionalism and teaching commitment of special education teachers in special education institutions, focusing on their background variables. Method: In the first semester of 2020, 100 special teachers working at special schools, special classes, and special education support centers were sampled, and 300 individuals participated in an online survey, from which 233 effective responses were used for analysis. Result: First, the background variable that showed a difference in the professionalism of special school teachers was the level of final education; no background variable showed a difference in teaching commitment. Second, the background variables that showed differences in the professionalism of special class teachers were teaching career, level of final education, and level of teaching certificate, while the background variables that showed differences in teaching commitment was the level of teaching certificate. Third, the background variables that showed differences in the professionalism of teachers at the special education support center were teaching career, level of final education, and level of teaching certificate, while the background variables that showed a difference in teaching commitment was the level of teaching certificate. Conclusion: Consequently, teaching career and level of final education may be considered important background variables for the professionalism and teaching commitment of special education teachers regardless of special education institutions. Therefore, administrative and emotional support are needed for special education teachers to have accumulative teaching careers by engaging in teaching for long periods and high levels of final education. As a suggestion for follow-up research, first, additional research on the professionalism and teaching commitment of special school teachers are needed by focusing on the type of establishment. Second, a detailed analysis of the teaching career of special education teachers is needed. Third, a study is needed to closely examine the level of final education background of special education teachers. Fourth, research on the background variables of special education teachers should be conducted in a balanced way for each special education institution.

As the abnormal proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) plays a critical role in the development of atherosclerosis and vascular restenosis, a candidate drug with antiproliferative properties is needed. We investigated the antiproliferative action and underlying mechanism of a newly synthesized naphthoquinone derivative, 5,8-dimethoxy-2-nonylamino-naphthalene-1,4-dione (2-nonylamino- DMNQ), using VSMCs treated with platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF). 2-Nonylamino-DMNQ inhibited proliferation and cell number of VSMCs induced by PDGF, but not epidermal growth factor (EGF), in a concentration-dependent manner without any cytotoxicity. This derivative suppressed PDGF-induced [<sup>3</sup>H]-thymidine incorporation, cell cycle progression from G<sub>0</sub>/G<sub>1</sub> to S phase, and the phosphorylation of phosphor-retinoblastoma protein (pRb) as well as the expression of cyclin E/D, cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) 2/4, and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA). Importantly, 2-nonylamino-DMNQ inhibited the phosphorylation of PDGF receptorՂ(PDGF-RՂ) enhanced by PDGF at Tyr<sup>579</sup>, Tyr<sup>716</sup>, Tyr<sup>751</sup>, and Tyr<sup>1021</sup> residues. Subsequently, 2-nonylamino-DMNQ inhibited PDGF- induced phosphorylation of STAT3, ERK1/2, Akt, and PLCՃ1. Therefore, our results indicate that 2-nonylamino-DMNQ inhibits PDGF-induced VSMC proliferation by blocking PDGF-RՂ autophosp- horylation, and subsequently PDGF-RՂ-mediated downstream signaling pathways.

The present study investigated the litter performance of multiparous sows had different feeding frequencies during summer season. A total of 60 crossbred multiparous sows was allotted to one of two treatments based on body weight (BW) according to a completely randomized design. Two different feeding frequencies based on NRC (National Research Council) were applied as conventional feeding (T1; 2 kg per meal at 06:00, 11:00, and 17:00) and night feeding (T2; 1.5 kg per meal at 06:00, 11:00, 17:00, and 2 kg at 22:00). Sows in T2 treatment had lower (p < 0.05) BW changes during lactation. The backfat thickness change of sows was decreased in T2 treatment during lactation (p < 0.05). The daily feed intake differed significantly between T1 and T2 with increased feed intake of the T2 group at 5.47 kg/d to 5.14 kg/d in the T1 group (p < 0.05). There was a significant difference in total weight of weaned piglets between T1 (70.50 kg) and T2 (74.34 kg). A greater total litter weight gain was observed in sows in T2 treatment. Night feeding is suggested for lactating sows with significant beneficial effects on litter growth during summer season.

This study examined the effect of gamma irradiation on shelf-life extension and sensory characteristics of dak-galbi. Commercial dak-galbi sauce was gamma-irradiated at 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 kGy. The dak-galbi sauce (200 g) was then added to diced chicken (800 g) for cooking, and the cooked dak-galbi samples in vacuum bags were stored at 35oC for 5 d. Dak-galbi samples were analyzed on d 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 for microbial analysis (plate count agar), thiobarbituric acid (TBARS) and volatile basic nitrogen (VBN) measurements, and on d 0 for sensory evaluation. On d 0, total bacterial populations were below detection limit after dak-galbi marinated with the gamma-irradiated (≥15 kGy) sauces were cooked, and the samples marinated with higher dose irradiated dak-galbi sauce had lower (p<0.05) bacterial populations during storage. TBARS values of the dak-galbi samples marinated with non-irradiated sauce were not different (p≥0.05) with those marinated with irradiated sauces on d 0, and the TBARS values increased (p<0.05) during storage at 35oC, regardless of irradiation dose. In the VBN analysis, there was no difference (p≥0.05) in VBN values among irradiation doses on d 0, but VBN values decreased (p<0.05) as irradiation dose increased during storage. Moreover, there were no significant differences (p≥0.05) in sensory characteristics among irradiation doses. These results indicate that use of gamma irradiation on dak-galbi sauce may be useful in shelf-life extension without compromising the sensory characteristics of dak-galbi.
