ABSTRACT In this paper, I have examined Lightfoot's (1979) explanation far the development of OE se þe-relative constructions. I have used the analysis of OE relative constructions proposed by Allen (1980a; 1980b) to clarify the structure and the derivation of them.I have seen that Lightfoot's (1979, section 6.2.3) attempt to account for the occurrence of them by appealing to the causal chain entailed by the Transparency Principle is incorrect. The development of them does not follow from the earlier phonological changes and the loss of Pronoun Fronting and se-relative constructions. I have proposed an alternative account for the origin and the development of se þe-relative constructions, following the suggestions made by Allen (1980a) and Mitchell (1985). I leave it as an open question how my alternative account is related to Lightfoot's Transparency Principle.

Do-un Ree Soong-in, born in late Koryo dynasty as a disciple to Mok-un, was an outstanding scholar and poet. He was one of the "Uns" (three "Uns" are, Do-un, Mok-un, and Po-un) and his career was ended at the age of forty-four on account of the betrayal cf his friend full of carnal ambition and power. In spite cf his short career, he produced everlasting poems. The characteristics of his personality and works are as follows: First he was full of faithfulness to the Majesty, right personality indomitable against the unrighteousness and unshakable integrity. Second the trends of his poems are highly noble and fresh, and are filled with polished poetic diction and verse. Though the thought of the poem is lofty and noble, it enlivens a vast-flowing spirit. Third his poem is not always lofty, but sometimes thundering and wild. Since poetic dictions are always clear and fresh, there is no room for cliche to penetrate. Fourth to meet a monk in fragrance and to meditate a good poem in the smell of tea are the great pleasure for him. His faith being deep and elegant, he was a scholar of the scholars and a poet of the poets.

A Case Refort of Sandhoff Disease

Sandhoff disease is a rare autosomal recessive metabolic disease presenting bilateral optic atrophy and a cherry red spot in the macula. This case report presents the characteristics of a patient with Sandhoff disease as assessed by ophthalmic, neuroimaging, and laboratory procedures. Ophthalmologic examination revealed that the patient could not fixate her eyes on objects nor follow moving targets. A pale optic disc and a cherry red spot in the macula were seen in both eyes. Low signal intensity at the thalamus and high signal intensity at the cerebral white matter were noted in a T2-weighted brain MR image. A lysosomal enzyme assay using fibroblasts showed the marked reduction of both total β-hexosaminidases, A and B. Based on the above clinical manifestations and laboratory findings, we diagnosed the patient as having Sandhoff disease.

Modifying optical properties of phosphor-in-glass by varying phosphor size and content

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Phosphor-in-glass (PIG) has been attracting attention as a stable encapsulant for light-emitting diodes. However, the influence of the phosphor size and content on the morphology and optical properties of PIG must be further studied to achieve the desired color properties by understanding the relationship between the phosphor mixing conditions and the morphology. In this study, two different sizes of YAG:Ce<SUP>3+</SUP> phosphors were used in different ratios and total amounts. The optical properties of the PIG samples were measured using an integrating sphere and UV-spectrometer, and cross-sectional scanning electron microscopy images were used to analyze the pore properties. The optical properties of PIG showed linear trends as functions of the pore and phosphor distributions, both of which affect the passage of light. This research shows that the desired color properties can be achieved in PIG by considering the phosphor mixing conditions and the related variations in the morphology.</P>

Given a field K and a finite group G, it is a very interesting problem, although very difficult, to find all Galois extensions over K whose Galois group is isomorphic to G. In this paper, we prepare a theoretical background to study this type of problem when G is the Mathieu group $M_{24}$ and K is a field of characteristic two.

Le double personnage de I'école chrétienne et son identité en Corée

Il y avait le conflit autour de l'ecole chrétienne coréenne depuis la renovation de la loi de l'ecole privee en 2006. La situation se trouve toujours dans notre société. Nous avons essaye de chercher l'origine du conflit dans l'histoire de l'ecole chrétienne. Elle se developpa avec la modernisation propre de notre pays. La modernisation lui fit repondre a l'exigence exogene, d'un côté. D'autre côte, l'ecole fit les efforts pour garder son identite. Cela causa sa propre dynamique. Une idee durkheimienne du systeme scolaire nous permit d'ouvrir les yeux vers cette dualité de l'ecole. E. Durkheim, sociologue français, analysa le système scolaire a travers son histoire. Il y trouva deux aspects de l'enseignement scolaire. Selon lui l'éducation est essentiellement une socialisation méthodique. Et le rôle de l'ecole était donc illumine sous l'angle du fontionnalism et comme detenniné par l'exigence de la société globale ou par la structure sociale préexistante. En même temps, l'ecole est une société, c’està- dire un groupe social qui a son unité, sa physionomie propre, son organisation. C'est la double personnage de l'ecole. Empruntant le point de vue pour notre etude à la pensée durkeimienne, nous avons essayé de voir l'histoire particulière de l'ecole chrétienne chez nous. Il nous semble y trouver le double personage. C'est-à-dire elle suivait l'esprit chretien au niveau d'idee. Cependant ses activités pédagogiques n'avaient pas de grand différence de celles de l'ecole publique. C'est la situation qui permet le gouvernement d'y intervenir plus facilement. Il est vrai que le gouvernement doit respecter la particularité et l'autonomie de l'ecole privee chrétienne. En fait on pousse souvent en avant les politiques éducatives sans considération sur ses caracteriatiques historiques et culturelles. La renovation de la loi de l'ecole privee conduit plus ou moins a la même situation. Cependant le problème de l'identite de l'école chrétienne est toujours la. Nous voulons proposer que l'ecole chrétienne s'examine : l'histoire, la pedagogie, l'administration, et surtout son identité. Cela doit être la meilleure réponse au défi laïque.
