The current status of the AKARI-FIS Point Source Catalogue is reported. The first version of the Bright Source Catalogue has been in public since March 2010 and used extensively in the various fields in astronomy. The second version of the Bright Source Catalogue and the first version of the Faint Source Catalogue are currently under development. The revised Bright Source Catalogue is expected to have improved completeness, reliability, and accuracy compared to the current version. The Faint Source Catalogue will have a scan-density dependent detection limit and will enable much deeper exploration of the sky especially in the high-ecliptic latitude regions. Both catalogues will be available in a year time scale.

Information on the biology of the alpine moth, Syngrapha ottolenguii, is very limited. On the main island of Japan, Honshu, we determined a natural host plant of S. ottolenguii to be Empetrum nigrum in alpine fields; the larvae showed a characteristic nocturnal feeding behavior on this plant. During daytime, the moths hid in the lower layer of the dense E. nigrum shrub. S. ottolenguii exhibited a univoltine life cycle with hibernation at the second or third instar larval stage under deep snow, where the temperature stayed stable at 0 °C for about 6 months. They could be reared with a generation time of about 60 days on an artificial diet under 16L– 8D at 20 °C. Effects of the geometry of a jet engine fuel injector with wall impingement on the atomization and combustion characteristics are investigated. The atomization characteristics were evaluated by mean droplet size (SMD) obtained by a light scattering technique (LDSA) under atmospheric condition. Combination of pressure atomization with air-blasting gives remarkable improvement of the atomization. The effect of droplet size and spray dispersion on the combustion characteristics are also investigated experimentally. Results showed that SMD decreased with the decrease in the nozzle diameter D. Spray dispersion became better with the decrease in the D. EI(NOx) decreased with the decrease in the D. Spray dispersion became worse with the decrease in N. EI(NOx) decreased with the increase in N. The relationship between the rate of decrease in SMD and the rate of decrease in EI(NOx) was defined and was verified to be useful. According to the result of the effect of nozzle number N on the atomization and combustion characteristics, it is shown that the dispersion is more important than the atomization.
Effects of Income Inequality on Growth through Efficiency Improvement and Capital Accumulation

In the present paper, the inverted-U shape relationship between economic growth and inequality found in Chen (2003) is re-examined. We decompose productivity growth into efficiency improvement, capital accumulation and technological progress and then ascertain their determinants by employing fixed effects and dynamic panel models. In particular, this paper focuses on the question of how economic inequality affects capital accumulation and efficiency improvement. Key findings are that inequality enhances efficiency improvement as well as capital accumulation and then undermines them as inequality widens. However, other factors such as human capital, openness and government consumption have different effects on them.

Although natural disasters have been found to influence economic growth, their impact on income inequality has not yet been explored. This paper uses cross-country panel data during the period 1965 to 2004 to examine how the occurrence of natural disasters has affected income inequality. The major findings of this study are that although natural disasters have increased income inequality in the short (5 years) term, this effect disappears in the long term (10 years). These findings are observed even after the fixed effects of year and country are controlled for.
