      • Regulatory Network of MicroRNAs, Target Genes, Transcription Factors and Host Genes in Endometrial Cancer

Xue, Lu-Chen,Xu, Zhi-Wen,Wang, Kun-Hao,Wang, Ning,Zhang, Xiao-Xu,Wang, Shang Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.2

Genes and microRNAs (miRNAs) have important roles in human oncology. However, most of the biological factors are reported in disperse form which makes it hard to discover the pathology. In this study, genes and miRNAs involved in human endometrial cancer(EC) were collected and formed into regulatory networks following their interactive relations, including miRNAs targeting genes, transcription factors (TFs) regulating miRNAs and miRNAs included in their host genes. Networks are constructed hierarchically at three levels: differentially expressed, related and global. Among the three, the differentially expressed network is the most important and fundamental network that contains the key genes and miRNAs in EC. The target genes, TFs and miRNAs are differentially expressed in EC so that any mutation in them may impact on EC development. Some key pathways in networks were highlighted to analyze how they interactively influence other factors and carcinogenesis. Upstream and downstream pathways of the differentially expressed genes and miRNAs were compared and analyzed. The purpose of this study was to partially reveal the deep regulatory mechanisms in EC using a new method that combines comprehensive genes and miRNAs together with their relationships. It may contribute to cancer prevention and gene therapy of EC.

Use of Beauveria bassiana in combination with commercial insecticides to manage Phauda flammans (Walker) (Lepidoptera: Phaudidae): Testing for compatibility and synergy

        Chen Xue-Min,Wang Xiao-Yun,Lu Wen,Zheng Xia-Lin 한국응용곤충학회 2021 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.24 No.2

An entomopathogenic fungal strain, Beauveria bassiana PfBb, was identified from Phauda flammans (Lepidoptera: Phaudidae) larvae. The compatibility and synergy of B. bassiana PfBb employed in combination with three concentrations (i.e., recommended concentration, 20% and 10% of the recommended concentration) of five commercial insecticides were determined. Beta cypermethrin at 10% of recommended concentration had the lowest inhibitory effect on the mycelial growth of B. bassiana PfBb compared with other insecticides. Insecticides utilized at recommended concentration had no significant effect on the sporulation of B. bassiana PfBb, while the extent of their effect at 20% and 10% of recommended concentration differed among insecticides. Insecticides at 10% of recommended concentration had the lowest inhibition of sporulation and conidial germination compared with other concentrations. The conidial germination of B. bassiana PfBb was the highest after treatment with beta cypermethrin at 10% of recommended concentration. The cumulative mortality for 1 × 10 7 spores/mL B. bassiana PfBb combined with each insecticide at 10% of recommended concentration was higher than that observed with the application of insecticides alone. The percent cadavers of Phauda flammans larvae observed after treatment with B. bassiana PfBb combined with beta cypermethrin at 10% of recommended concentration were not significantly different from those observed after infection with B. bassiana PfBb alone. Our findings demonstrate that B. bassiana PfBb combined with beta cypermethrin at 10% of recommended concentration could increase the efficiency of this insecticide.

In recent decades, MIMO (Multi-Input-Multi-Output) systems become more and more widely used inindustrial applications. A variety of decoupling control algorithms have been studied in the literature. Therefore,a review of the most extensively applied coupling interaction analysis and decoupler design methods for industrialprocesses is necessary to be carried out. In this paper, in order to benefit researchers and engineers with differentacademic backgrounds, the scattered coupling interaction analysis and decoupling algorithms are collectedand divided into different categories with their characteristics, application domains and informative comments forselection. Moveover, some frequently concerned problems of decoupling control are also discussed.

      • Expression and Prognostic Role of MEKK3 and pERK in Patients with Renal Clear Cell Carcinoma

        Chen, Qi,Lu, Hong-sheng,Gan, Mei-fu,Chen, Lan-xi,He, Kai,Fan, Guang-min,Cao, Xue-quan Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.6

Mitogen-activated protein kinase/extracellular signal-regulated kinase kinase kinase 3 (MEKK3) is an important serine/threonine protein kinase and a member of the MAPK family. MEKK3 can effectively activate the MEK/ERK signaling pathway and promote an autocrine growth loop critical for tumor genesis, cell proliferation, terminal differentiation, apoptosis and survival. To explore the relationship between MEKK3 and cell apoptosis, clinicopathology and prognosis, we characterize the expression of MEKK3, pERK and FoxP3 in the renal clear cell carcinoma (RCCC). Protein expression was detected by tissue microarray and immunochemistry in 46 cases of RCCC and 28 control cases. Expression levels of CD3+,CD3+CD4+,CD3+CD8+,CD4+CD25+, CD4+CD25+ FoxP3+ were assessed by flow cytometry and analyzed for their association with pathological factors, correlation and prognosis in RCCC. Expression of MEKK3, pERK and FoxP3 was significantly up-regulated in RCCC as compared to control levels (p<0.01), associated with pathological grade (p<0.05)and clinical stage (p<0.05). CD4+CD25+ Foxp3+ Treg cells were also significantly increased in RCCC patients (p<0.05). Cox multivariate regression analysis showed that MEKK3, pERK expression and patholigical stage were independent prognostic factors in patients with RCCC (p<0.05). MEKK3 can be used as an important marker of early diagnosis and prognostic evaluation in RCCC. It may be associated with imbalance of anti-tumor immunity and overexpression of pERK. Expression of MEKK3 and pERK are significantly increased in RCCC, with protein expression and clinical stage acting as independent prognostic factors.

Beta-naphthoflavone increases the differentiation of osteoblasts and suppresses adipogenesis in human adipose derived stem cells involving STAT3 pathway

        Lu Ming,Li Min,Luo Tao,Li Yongsui,Wang Mingxin,Xue Huashi,Zhang Mengchen,Chen Qiu 대한독성 유전단백체 학회 2023 Molecular & cellular toxicology Vol.19 No.3

Background Treating large-volume bone defects (LVBD) remains a challenge for orthopedics and maxillofacial surgeons globally. Objective The present study was to aimed investigate the role of Beta-naphthofl avone (BNF) a synthetic fl avonoid on differentiation of osteoblast of human adipose derived stem cells. Results BNF at 1 μM showed a signifi cantly increased ALP activity and rate of cell proliferation compared to control on the 3rd, 7th and 14th day. Also, it was observed that, BNF at 1 μM resulted in signifi cantly increased expression of BSP. On the 14th day of treatment, BNF at all the three treatments resulted in increased levels of OCN. Also, extracellular matrix mineralization levels were recorded to be highest for BNF 1 μM. The levels of Runx2 were higher in 1 μM treated group on the 3rd day compared to other, whereas in contrast the levels were lower on the 7th and 14th day compared to control. BNF at all the three treatments caused a signifi cant decrease in levels of pSTAT3, C/EBP-α and PPAR-γ levels. Conclusion BNF treatment resulted in increased diff erentiation of osteoblast of hASCs by targeting STAT3 pathway.

Current understanding of the development of sex attractant-based biocontrol in burnet moths

        Chen Xue-Min,Wang Xiao-Yun,Lu Wen,Zheng Xia-Lin 한국응용곤충학회 2021 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.24 No.3

Burnet moths, also known as the family Zygaenidae, are a typical diurnal family of Lepidoptera. Some species are important insect pests in agriculture and forestry. The use of sex attractants is one of the most important mea sures in the integrated pest management of burnet moths because these attractants are highly efficient, do not cause pollution, and are convenient and harmless to natural enemies. The earliest information about sex pher omones in Zygaenidae was reported in 1972. To date, many studies have described sex pheromones and at tractants of species in Zygaenidae. Here, we review a total of 22 sex attractant compositions identified for 57 species of Zygaenidae and compare the differences in the structures of sex attractants among these species. The application of sex attractants in seasonal monitoring showed that the main activity period of zygaenid moths is from May to September each year. However, there are few reports on the effects of sex attractants on mass trapping of members of the family Zygaenidae. The ratio and degradation of sex attractants and the trap color, shape and hanging height were considered the main factors influencing capture effectiveness. Directions for further study of burnet moths are also discussed.

Traditional, complementary and integrative medicine for fatigue: A systematic review of randomized controlled trials

        Chen, Xiao-ying,Lu, Chun-li,Wang, Qian-yun,Pan, Xing-ru,Zhang, Yang-yang,Wang, Jia-le,Liao, Jun-Ya,Hu, Nai-chong,Wang, Chen-yang,Duan, Bing-jie,Liu, Xue-han,Jin, Xin-yan,Jennifer Hunter,Jian-ping Liu 한국한의학연구원 2024 Integrative Medicine Research Vol.13 No.2

Background: Chronic fatigue is a predominant symptom of post COVID-19 condition, or long COVID. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine (TCIM) for fatigue. Methods: Ten English and Chinese language databases and grey literature were searched up to 12 April 2023 for randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Cochrane “Risk of bias” (RoB) tool was applied. Evidence certainty was assessed using Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE). Effect estimates were presented as risk ratio (RR) or mean difference (MD) with 95% confidence interval (CI). Results: Thirteen RCTs with 1632 participants were included. One RCT showed that Bufei Huoxue herbal capsules reduced fatigue (n=129, MD -14.90, 95%CI -24.53 to -5.27), one RCT reported that Ludangshen herbal liquid lowered fatigue (n=184, MD -1.90, 95%CI -2.38 to -1.42), and the other one RCT shown that fatigue disappearance rate was higher with Ludangshen herbal liquid (n=184, RR 4.19, 95%CI 2.06 to 8.53). Compared to traditional Chinese medicine rehabilitation (TCM-rahab) alone, one RCT showed that fatigue symptoms were lower following Qingjin Yiqi granules plus TCM-rehab (n=388, MD -0.48, 95%CI -0.50 to -0.46). Due to concerns with RoB and/or imprecision, the certainty in this evidence was low to very low. No serious adverse events was reported. Conclusions: Limited evidence suggests that various TCIM interventions might reduce post COVID-19 fatigue. Larger, high quality RCTs of longer duration are required to confirm these preliminary findings. Protocol Registration: The protocol of this review has been registered at PROSPERO: CRD42022384136. • MEKK3 and Survivin Expression in Cervical Cancer: Association with Clinicopathological Factors and Prognosis

Cao, Xue-Quan,Lu, Hong-Sheng,Zhang, Ling,Chen, Li-Li,Gan, Mei-Fu Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.13

Mitogen-activated protein kinase/extracellular signal-regulated kinase kinase kinase 3 (MEKK3) is an important protein kinase and a member of the MAPK family, which regulates cellular responses to environmental stress and serves as key integration points along the signal transduction cascade that not only link diverse extracellular stimuli to subsequent signaling molecules but also amplify the initiating signals to ultimately activate effector molecules and induce cell proliferation, differentiation and survival. To explore the relationship between MEKK3 and cell apoptosis, clinicopathology and prognosis, we characterize the expression of MEKK3 and survivin in cervical cancer. MEKK3 and survivin expression was measured by RT-PCR and Western blotting of fresh surgical resections from 30 cases of cervical cancer and 25 cases of chronic cervicitis. Protein expression was detected by tissue microarray and immunochemistry (En Vision) in 107 cases of cervical cancer, 86 cases of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN), and 35 cases of chronic cervicitis. Expression patterns were analyzed for their association with clinicopathological factors and prognosis in cervical cancer. Expression of MEKK3 and survivin mRNA was significantly higher in cervical cancer than in the controls (p<0.05). MEKK3 and survivin expression differed significantly between cervical carcinoma, CIN, and cervicitis (p<0.05) and correlated with clinical stage, infiltration depth, and lymph node metastasis (p<0.05). MEKK3 expression was positively correlated with survivin (p<0.05). Kaplan-Meier survival analysis showed that MEKK3 and survivin expression, lymph node metastasis, depth of invasion, and FIGO stage reduce cumulative survival. Cox multivariate regression analysis showed that MEKK3, survivin, and clinical staging are independent prognostic factors in cervical cancer (p<0.05). Expression of MEKK3 and survivin are significantly increased in cervical cancer, their overexpression participating in the occurrence and development of cervical cancer, with protein expression and clinical staging acting as independent prognostic factors for patients with cervical cancer.
