        Effects of sweetener sucralose on diet preference, growth performance and hematological and biochemical parameters of weaned piglets

        Objective: Two experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of dietary sucralose on diet preference and growth performance of weaned piglets, and a third experiment was a 28-d safety study to examine if high-dose sucralose could affect the health state of weaned piglets. Methods: In experiment one, 48 piglets had free access to a corn-soybean based diet and the same diet supplemented with 150 mg/kg sucralose for 15 d. In experiment two, 180 piglets were blocked into 5 treatments with 6 replications. They were fed basal diets supplemented with 0, 75, 150, 225, and 300 mg/kg sucralose for 28 days. In experiment three, 108 piglets were randomly assigned to 3 treatments and fed diets supplemented with 0, 150 (suitable level), and 1,500 (ten-fold suitable level) mg/kg sucralose for 28 d. Results: The experiment 1 showed that piglets preferred (p<0.05) diets containing sucralose during experimental period. In experiment 2, piglets fed a diet supplemented with 150 mg/kg sucralose had a higher average daily gain (ADG) and average daily feed intake (ADFI) than pigs in the control group and other treatment groups during the experiment period. The concentrations of sucralose over 150 mg/kg may decrease feed intake. However, no difference in feed conversion ratio was observed. In experiment 3, piglets fed diet supplemented with 150 mg/kg sucralose had a higher ADG and ADFI than that of pigs in the control group and 1,500 mg/kg treatment groups during the experiment period. Clinical blood metabolites, organ index and histological morphology were not significantly different between sucralose treatments. Conclusion: Sucralose can promote feed intake and thereby improve growth performance of weaned piglets. Moreover, inclusion of 1,500 mg/kg sucralose was demonstrated to have no observed adverse effects. Supplementing 150 mg/kg sucralose for weaned piglets is recommended in this study.

Therefore, through the development and implementation of the bank payment and settlement system, the use of network technology, information technology and integration technology to achieve the bank payment and settlement business, service, publicity, training, management, and applied in the whole jurisdiction, may realize the business innovation, improve the level of bank management.

        New Hanger Design Approach of Tied-Arch Bridge to Enhance Its Robustness

        As the crucial components among the tied-arch bridge, the local failure of hangers may trigger a progressive collapse through the entire tied-arch bridge. However, the current design guidance as regards hangers still lacks consideration of structure robustness under an extreme hazard. To improve the structural robustness of tied-arch bridge under extreme conditions, a new hanger design method is proposed, which is termed as asymmetric parallel double-hanger system. Based on Miner’s linear cumulative damage law, an analysis on the fatigue life of the double-hanger system was conducted to verify the feasibility of the proposal, and then a dynamic time-history analysis was employed to simulate the transitory fracture impact due to one or more hangers fracturing. According to the simulation results, the structural robustness is greatly enhanced with asymmetric parallel-double hanger system design, when compared with single hanger system design. When one or more hangers reveal local damage, it will not trigger a progress failure to the whole structure in particular. Several practical suggestions of bridge system’s load-carrying capacity are also put forward for the future arch bridge design at the end of this paper.

        Performance Evaluation of Web-based Cloud Services in a Browser-Scripting Approach

        Cloud services are often provisioned to their customers using user-friendly web browsers with flexible and rich plug-in environments. Delay is one of the fundamental performance metrics of these web-based services. Commonly-used network measurement tools usually only measure network delay and it may be difficult to infer the web-delay performance using only network layer measurement approaches. In this paper, we propose to evaluate the application layer delay in a browser-based network measurement platform using engineered scripts. We conducted a delay measurement study using instrumented scripts in the proposed browser-based measurement platform. Our investigation included a comparison study of three browser-scripting delay measurement methods, including Java applet, JSP and Flash ActionScript. We developed a browser-based delay measurement testbed over the Internet so that different delay measurement tools could be evaluated in the same real network environment including typical Internet paths and the Baidu cloud. We also decomposed the components of the end-to-end delay process of the above measurements to reveal the difference and relationship between the network-layer delay and the application-layer delay. Our measurement results characterize the stochastic properties of the application-layer delay over real Internet paths, and how these properties vary from the underlying network layer delay. This browser-scripting measurement approach can be easily deployed on different cloud service platforms to inspect their application-layer delay performance between end clients and the cloud platforms. Our measurement results may provide insights into designing new cloud services with enhanced quality-of-experience perceived by cloud users.

        Filled Skutterudites: from Single to Multiple Filling

        This paper shortly reviews our recent work on filled skutterudites, which are considered to be one of the most promising thermoelectric (TE) materials due to their excellent power factors and relatively low thermal conductivities. The filled skutterudite system also provides a platform for studying void filling physics/chemistry in compounds with intrinsic lattice voids. By using ab initio calculations and thermodynamic analysis, our group has made progresses in understanding the filling fraction limit (FFL) for single fillers in CoSb3, and ultra-high FFLs in a few alkali-metal-filled CoSb3 have been predicted and then been confirmed experimentally. FFLs in multiple-element-filled CoSb3 are also investigated and anonymous filling behavior is found in a few specific systems. The calculated and measured FFLs, in both single and multiple-filled CoSb3 systems, show good accordance so far. The thermal transport properties can be understood qualitatively by a phonon resonance scattering model, and it seems that a scaling rule may exist between the lattice thermal resistivity and the resonance frequency of filler atoms in filled system. Even though a few things become clear now, there are still many unsolved issues that call for further work.

        Pure blue emission from undoped organic light emitting diode based on anthracene derivative

        This paper presents organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) which were fabricated by using undoped 9,10-di(2-naphthyl)anthracene (ADN) as the emitting layer, N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-bis(3-methylphenyl)-1,1'-biphenyl-4,4'-amine (TPD) as the hole transporting layer, and one of tris-(8-hydroxy-quinolinato) aluminum (Alq3), 4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline (Bphen) and 2-tert-butylphenyl-5-biphenyl- 1,3,4-oxadiazole (PBD) as the electron transporting layer. By optimization for the thickness of device, efficient pure blue organic light emitting diodes were obtained, which is attributed to the synergy of both the hole transporting layer and the electron transporting layer. The Commission Internationale de l’Eclairage coordinates of (0.1516, 0.0836) were achieved in the cell, which is very close to the National Television Standards Committee standard of (0.14, 0.08). Meanwhile, maximum luminance over 6500 cd/cm2 and maximum current efficiency of 3.5 cd/A were also obtained.         Startup Strategies: the (International) Franchisor in the Italian Food Service Industry

        심각한 경기 침체기에도 외식산업에서 프랜차이즈는 창업자들이 상대적으로 높은 수익률을 올릴 수 있는 좋은 사업안으로 간주되어왔다. 특히 프랜차이즈 운영은 창업률을 쉽게 높일 수 있고, 사업의 파산 위험이 상대적으로 낮다는 점, 금융기관의 자금 대출이 용이하다는 세 가지 측면에서 성공적인 창업의 대안으로 외식산업에서 각광받아 왔다. 하지만 창업자들에게 매력적인 외식사업으로 알려진 프랜차이즈업이 유독 이탈리아에서는 활성화되어 있지 않다. 이는 프랜차이즈업이 성공적으로 활성화 되어 있는 한국 외식산업과는 확연한 차이를 보이는 결과이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 두 나라의 프랜차이즈업 활성화 정도가 다르게 나타나는 원인을 규명하고 이탈리아에서 한국 창업자들이 성공적으로 프랜차이즈업을 시작해 이윤을 남기는 것이 가능한지 여부에 대해 분석하고자 한다. 본 연구는 해당 연구주제를 분석하기 위해 이탈리아 소비자들의 행동 분석을 필요로 하며 다음의 두 가지 문제에 관한 질적분석을 통해 한국 창업자들이 이탈리아에서 성공적인 프랜차이즈 사업이 가능한지 여부를 분석하고자 한다. a) 이탈리아가 그들의 전통적인 음식문화를 고수할 수 있을 것인가 - 프랜차이즈의 표준화된 음식이 이탈리아의 전통적인 수제화 및 개인 맞춤 음식을 대체할 수 있겠는가 b) 경기 침체와 함께 최근 점진적으로 약화되고 있는 전통적인 이태리 음식문화가 프랜차이즈가 제공하는 저렴하고 획일화된 음식 문화로 옮겨가 결국 이탈리아 외신산업이 프랜차이즈 도입이라는 차선의 균형점에 도달할 수 있겠는가최근 유럽에 강타한 경제위기와 함께 프랜차이즈 사업이 전통적인 이탈리아 음식문화의 변화를 초래할 수 있다면 한국의 프랜차이즈 창업자들에게 이탈리아는 새로운 외식산업 시장이 될 것으로 간주된다.
