A Fault Tolerant Data Management Scheme for Healthcare Internet of Things in Fog Computing

( Waqar Saeed ),( Zulfiqar Ahmad ),( Ali I. Jehangiri ),( Nader Mohamed ),( Arif I. Umar ),( Jamil Ahmad ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2021 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.15 No.1

Fog computing aims to provide the solution of bandwidth, network latency and energy consumption problems of cloud computing. Likewise, management of data generated by healthcare IoT devices is one of the significant applications of fog computing. Huge amount of data is being generated by healthcare IoT devices and such types of data is required to be managed efficiently, with low latency, without failure, and with minimum energy consumption and low cost. Failures of task or node can cause more latency, maximum energy consumption and high cost. Thus, a failure free, cost efficient, and energy aware management and scheduling scheme for data generated by healthcare IoT devices not only improves the performance of the system but also saves the precious lives of patients because of due to minimum latency and provision of fault tolerance. Therefore, to address all such challenges with regard to data management and fault tolerance, we have presented a Fault Tolerant Data management (FTDM) scheme for healthcare IoT in fog computing. In FTDM, the data generated by healthcare IoT devices is efficiently organized and managed through well-defined components and steps. A two way fault-tolerant mechanism i.e., task-based fault-tolerance and node-based fault-tolerance, is provided in FTDM through which failure of tasks and nodes are managed. The paper considers energy consumption, execution cost, network usage, latency, and execution time as performance evaluation parameters. The simulation results show significantly improvements which are performed using iFogSim. Further, the simulation results show that the proposed FTDM strategy reduces energy consumption 3.97%, execution cost 5.09%, network usage 25.88%, latency 44.15% and execution time 48.89% as compared with existing Greedy Knapsack Scheduling (GKS) strategy. Moreover, it is worthwhile to mention that sometimes the patients are required to be treated remotely due to non-availability of facilities or due to some infectious diseases such as COVID-19. Thus, in such circumstances, the proposed strategy is significantly efficient.

      • Design and Development of a Semi-Autonomous Stair Climbing Robotic Platform For Rough Terrains

        Muhammad Umar Masood,Muhammad Ahsan Sami,Haris Sohail,Muhammad Mujtaba,Muhammad Abubakar Siddique,Hashir Akram,Nasir Rashid,Mohsin I. Tiwana,Javaid Iqbal 제어로봇시스템학회 2017 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2017 No.10

This paper presents the design of a stair climbing fixed flipper unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) for urban search and rescue purposes. Mobile flippers are being used in certain UGVs for enhanced mobility in rough terrains, however, the control algorithm of these platforms is complex. To add this enhanced mobility in the UGV and to reduce the intricacy of the control algorithm, anterior end of the tracks are lifted up which enables the UGV to pass over obstacles with relative ease. To prevent the rollover of UGV while moving on an inclined surface, an image processing algorithm was developed which halts the motion of UGV if the calculated slope exceeds the threshold value with a maximum error of about 8%. Furthermore, left and right track velocities along with the turn radius were also calculated.

      • Slide Session : OS-IFD-05 ; Infectious Disease : Displacement of the Predominant Dengue Virus from Type 2 to Type 1 in Surabaya, Indonesia Within March 2012 - April 2013

        ( Brian Eka Rachman ),( Maria I Lusida ),( E Bimo Aksono ),( Siswanto Siswanto ),( Musofa Rusli ),( Bramantono ),( Nasronudin ),( Umar F Achmadi ) 대한내과학회 2014 대한내과학회 추계학술발표논문집 Vol.2014 No.1

Background: Indonesia is a country with high endemicity of dengue (haemorrhagic) fever (DF/ DHF). It was reported that dengue virus type 2 (DENV2) was the predominant circulating virus in 2003-2005 in Surabaya, Indonesia, while Yamanaka et al., 2011 reported shifting of DENV serotypes between 2008 - 2010 in three times survey. This study was part of the clinical trial phase three of antivirus against dengue, held in year 2012-2013. Methods: A total of 317 serum samples were collected from patients with fever on day-1 or day-2, suspected dengue infection according to WHO criteria, showed positive result either by NS-1, and or IgM - IgG within March 2012 - April 2013. After an RNA extraction, a multiplex DEN 1-4 quantitative Real-Time PCR was applied to each sample. Results: Sixty three (90%) of 70 PCR positive sera collected within March 2012 and May 2012 showed DENV2, then 5(7.2%) DENV1, 1(1.4%) DENV3, and 1mixed of DENV1+3. Surprisingly, it was totally different for those collected since June 2012 until April 2013. Fifty three (50%) of 106 positive samples were DENV1, 5 (4.7%) DENV2, 35 (33%) DENV3, 7 (6.6%) DEN4, and 2, 2, 1 mixed type of DENV 1+3, DENV1+4, DENV 3+4 respectively. Conclusions: There was a displacement of the predominant type of dengue virus circulating in Surabaya within March 2012 - April 2013. Such kind of predominant DENV shifting from type 2 to type 1 has occurred between October and November 2008. This indicates the need for continuous surveillance of the circulating viruses, which may predict the risk of severe DHF and mild DF as reported previously.

        Muhammad Ahsan Sami,Muhammad Umar Masood,Muhammad Waqar,Muhammad Mujtaba,Abrahim Ali Shah,Nasir Rashid,Mohsin I. Tiwana,Javaid Iqbal,Adnan Shujah 제어로봇시스템학회 2017 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2017 No.10

This paper presents an application of a novel approach for detecting and tracking an object with a 2 DOF robotic manipulator which can be equipped with an array of electrically controlled actuators. The said approach utilizes the Image Based Visual Servoing (IBVS) technique. The developed system is able to determine the object pose in real time from features in the image. Object is detected using shaped based approach algorithms of image processing. The position and orientation of the world coordinates of the object being tracked are calculated from the coordinates of the object in image plane using camera’s intrinsic and extrinsic parameters. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of this proposed approach.

Recycling and characterization of bone incorporated with concrete for gamma-radiation shielding applications

        Rilwan U.,Aliyu G.M.,Olukotun S.F.,Idris M.M.,Mundi A.A.,Bello S.,Umar I.,El-Taher A.,Mahmoud K.A.,sayyed M.I. 한국원자력학회 2024 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.56 No.7

This research intends to recycle bone and incorporate it into concrete for radiation shielding application using Phy-X/PSD software. Cement, sand and granite were mixed in proportion of 0.5 kg:1 kg:1 kg to obtain sample A. Other concretes composing of cement, sand, granite and bone ash was in proportion 0.45 kg:1 kg:1 kg:0.05 kg, 0.1 kg:1 kg:1 kg:0.4 kg and 0.35 kg:1 kg:1 kg:0.15 kg to obtain samples B, C and D respectively. 0.5 water-tocement (W/C) ratio was adopted throughout the mixes because the control mix contain the normal water quantity for normal hydration of cement. Replacing the bone ash for the cement in the fabricated concretes enhances their densities where the fabricated concretes’ density decreased from 2.33 g/cm3 to 2.22 g/cm3 by raising the reinforcing bones fly ash concentration from 0 to 0.15 kg. Additionally, increasing the bones fly ash concentration within the fabricated concretes increases their linear attenuation coefficient (LAC) where the fabricated concretes’ μ values at 0.662 MeV reach 0.181 cm 1, 0.178 cm 1, 0.174 cm 1, and 0.171 cm 1, respectively for concretes A, B, C, and D. The use of other local materials is recommended, as it improves waste management being the major aim of the sustainable development goal.
